Will Orange Oil kill BT? I am battling a fungus gnat infestation and wanted to use a multi-tiered approach.

I want to use several products to rid my home of fungus gnats. I have already applied neem oil, insecticidal soap, and placed sticky paper near soil. This is not taking care of the entire population. I just applied orange oil at 2 oz per gallon of water to all plant soils in my home and wanted to try BT as well. Will the orange oil lyse the cell wall of the beneficial BT bacteria?

Answer:

If you are treating edibles you will need to let them dry out for a while as one of the biggest contributors to fungus gnat population growth is over watering/too wet of soil. You may need to contact Monterey Lawn & Garden to see if orange oil would interfere with anything in their specific formulation.  If you are treating non edible plants you can try Talstar P Professional Insecticide and Gentrol IGR Concentrate to the soil to get some IGR going to stop the reproductive cycles.
