    Q
Have palm trees with white flies (limbo gumbo spiral fly). What is the best product and procedure?
    A
Imidacloprid is the active ingredient you will need to systemically control whitefly on your palms. Adonis would be the product of choice for soil drench applications for whitefly infestations. It can take a few weeks for the Adonis to translocate through tall trees and you will most likely continue to see whiteflies in that time period. While you are waiting on the imidacloprid to translocate you should treat the foliage with a product such as Talstar P or with insectidical soap or insecticidal oil.

    Q
How do I apply Adonis 2F as a soil drench for ficus with whitefly?
How do I apply this as a soil drench? Do I use a sprayer? I have a very large ficus tree with white flies.
    A
Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Adonis as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Adonis 2F per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Adonis to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
Is Adonis 2F effective for green bore ash tree applications?
What would the recommended water :chemical ratio be for the once a year dosage
    A
Adonis 2F is labeled to use on trees to help protect against boring beetles. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Adonis as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Adonis 2F per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. • Asked by Paul from Rineyville Kentucky
    11/04/2011
    Q
What concentration of Adonis 2F should I use for grubs in my turf?
I noticed two different concentrations on the product label.
    A
You will need to use 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz. (14 to 17 mL) of Adonis per 1000 sq. ft. You should use the higher concentration for faster knockdown and a longer lasting residual. For optimum control, make applications preceding or during the egg laying period of the target pest. The active ingredient in this product has enough residual activity so that applications can be made preceding the egg laying activity. Application timing can be based on historical monitoring of the site, previous records or experiences, current season adult trapping or other methods. Most favorable control will be achieved when applications are made prior to egg hatch of the target pests, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient through the thatch.

    Q
I have a 30 foot canary island date palm that has a palm weevil infestation. What product should I use?
    A
We would recommend Adonis 2F, which is a much more economical version of Merit.  You would use the soil drench method.  Apply .2 ounces per inch of trunk diameter.  Soil Drench: Apply uniformly as a drench around the base of the tree in not less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone.

    Q
How many years is Adonis 75WSP active in soil treatment?
I was reading How to perform a termite treatment and saw that it stated Suspend would last 10 years and Dominion 7 years. Is there a figure for Adonis 75 WSP( or Premise 75 or Imaxx Pro)? Imidicloprid is the AI in Dominion and these 3 so is active period the same? Description for Adonis only says remains in soil for years. Is there something more specific? Thanks
    A
Adonis 75 WSP is labeled to be reapplied every 5 years. While it will likely last as long as Dominion 2L it has not been tested that long so the manufacturer cannot claim it is active for longer than it has been tested for. We recommend using a product that contains imidacloprid (Adonis, Dominion) or fipronil (Termidor or Taurus) for the best termite protection.

    Q
Should I use Adonis 2F or Adonis 75 WSP for adelgids?
I had good luck with the Adonis 75 WSP 5 years ago but its time to reapply. I like the idea of the 2F but it appears to have less active ingredient. Which do you recommend? Will I get a longer term protection from the 75WSP?
    A

You will receive the same length of protection with either the Adonis 2F or the Adonis 75 WSP if applied per the product label instructions for adelgid control. They are different formulations so they have different percentages of the active ingredient. The Adonis 2F is a liquid that makes mixing in smaller amounts easier for most homeowners that do not have a large enough tank to mix the Adonis 75 WSP.

    Q
    Grub Control
Hello, I am looking at spraying my back yard for grubs and have about 15,000 square feet. I have a tow behind sprayer and must importantly two dogs. What would you recommend for season long prevention. I have recently removed some sod and was amazed at how many were underneath it. I live in Northwest Ohio. Thank you for your help.
    A

The best time to treat for grubs is prior to egg hatch.  Adonis 2F woudl be a good option as you mix .46fl oz - .6floz per 1,000 square feet. The exact amount of water is dependent upon how much water it takes to cover 1,000 sq feet (mark off a 10 x 100 ft area, however much water it takes to spray this area thoroughly is how much water you will mix per .46- .6fl oz of Adonis 2F)

Apply this product in sufficient water to provide adequate distribution in the treated area. The use of accurately calibrated equipment normally used for the application of turfgrass insecticides is required. Use equipment which will produce a uniform, coarse droplet spray, using a low pressure setting to eliminate off target drift. Check calibration periodically to ensure that equipment is working properly

We have Arborvitae with wood borers in them. What is the product to get rid of them?
Arborvitae are twenty five years old or more and have been very healthy otherwise. Now has wood borer beetles. They're dying fast. Have read about how to kill the bug but can't find the product to use or chemical. The time of year is now. Please help me figure out what to use.

Adonis 2F would be a good option for you. For borers, treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Adonis 2F as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Adonis 2F per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Q
I have white fly in my ficus bushes and I am looking for a systemic insecticide to treat ficus.
    A
You will need to use a product that contains imidacloprid such as Adonis 2F to treat systemically for whitefly on ficus. It can take several weeks for the Adonis to translocate through the plant. We recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Adonis to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage applications on ficus for white fly. Please take a few moments to read a previous Q&A which explains in detail how to measure your ficus to determine how much product you will need and also how to apply the product: Q&A.

How many times a year do I treat my trees with Adonis 2F Insecticide/Termiticde?
I treated my Aspen trees for soft scale with a soil soak in June of this year and was wondering if I should treat again this year or wait until next year for second treatment?
    A

Since you control scale insects when they are on the move which is in the late winter and spring you would wait until then to use the Adonis 2F insecticide/Termiticide again. We recommend checking with you local Extension Office to get a better exact time frame for treating in your area.

Treating Ficus Whitefly with Adonis 2F
What setting do I use on a hose-end sprayer to apply this as a ground soak to an 8ft tall ficus hedge? How much do I need to treat approximately 150 feet of hedges?
