Ants come back
By Ron on 12/05/2014
Kills ants but they return in about 1 week. Original Dupont Advion Ant Bait Gel kills them.
Expert response:
Bait should be provided for ants as long as the will accept it. Some ant species can have very large or satellite colonies and may require multiple treatments. Although the manufacturer of Advion Ant Bait Gel is now Syngenta, the product has not changed, only the packaging.

Bait or Killer?
By Disappointed on 08/03/2011
Watched carpenter ants travel back and forth from the tree in front, up the driveway, and directly to the corner of the garage door. As soon as I applied the Advion Ant Gel Bait in their path, they dove in without hesitation. Problem is they died in the gel or shortly thereafter. There was no delayed action where they would bring it back to the nest as advertised. I had dead ants all over the driveway, but three tubes later, the nest is still active.

Dont waste your money
By Virginia on 10/15/2016
The ant poison bait attracts ants well; just doesn't seem to get rid of them. Have used for two weeks and they keep coming. Calling an exterminator.
Expert response:
We apologize you did not receive the needed results as quickly as you would have liked. It is important to note that some ant colonies have millions of ants and it can take several weeks to knockdown the population. As long as the ants are continuing to eat the bait and are still active, it is important to keep baiting. Most exterminators are going to use the same product for ant control and they may also add an insecticide spray such as Phantom for indoor/outdoor control or Termidor for outdoor control so you can get faster results. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We are always happy to help!

Advion ant bait gel
By Stu on 09/07/2015
Used it a few times not happy with the results they ants are still around
Expert response:
Ant bait should be used steadily until there is no new ant activity noticed for several days. The most common baiting failure is not applying enough bait to kill the entire colony. Please take a few moments to read our Ant Treatment guide to learn how to implement a successful ant program:

sugar ants
By Gail on 07/15/2017
I read the reviews on this product as it related to sugar ants. I followed the instructions, put dots of gel where the ants were, they ate it, but they still kept coming. I have been using it for about 2 weeks and the ants are still coming into the kitchen. It seems to work as good as Terro did; it seems to me that it may kill some adult ants, then the babies are born and follow the same trail back to my kitchen. The promo said this will kill the queen, but she still seems to be producing more ants.

Does not work
By Christopher on 02/18/2019
I've been watching the ghost ants in my kitchen eat this stuff for the past three weeks and there is no sign of them slowing down. They eat the bait, I reapply but to no avail.
Expert response:
Thank you for your review. We apologize you have not received the expected results. It sounds like you may have a very large colony or multiple satellite colonies feeding off of the bait. If your ant trail to the bait has been consistent you want to continue to have fresh bait available to them as long as you see activity. If the nest location is unknown then the ants could be traveling as little as a few feet away from the bait to the nest, or up 30+ feet away from the bait. If you think part of the colony may be accessing food sources elsewhere as well as the bait this can play a part in how long it takes for them to be eliminated completely as well. If you haven't already, try placing a small dab of peanut butter on a piece of tin foil near the gel bait placement. If some of the colony starts going for it then that colony is also needing a protein source and not just a sugar source (the gel). A protein bait like Maxforce complete 8 oz would be a great option to pair with the gel. (https://www.domyown.com/maxforce-complete-granular-bait-p-1603.html)

Poor Results
By Sam on 08/24/2020
If I left my dog's food dish on the floor, it would attract ants. One day, I left some dry kibble on my dining room floor and ants appeared within 30 minutes. I placed 3 containers of Advion Ant Bait Gel along the baseboard in my dining room. They have been there for two days and the gel has not attracted a single ant. This products wasn't cheap. I expected better results for my $60.

Not the same
By Ronnie on 07/05/2019
I ordered this bc I had a tube given to me 2-3 yrs ago and it would take care of an ant problem in just one or two applications. I was happy to find a place I could order more but my excitement did not last. I have used one whole tube on the same ants and they are not going away. It's like they line up to get more of it. I'd look for another product that actually kills them.

Save you money
By Anthony on 08/09/2020
I spent quite a few dollars on this ant candy. I've been feeding this army of ants for over 5 days and there still coming strong. This product dries up very fast. Once dried, the ants just walk around it. They like the liquid, not solid form. I have to constantly add fresh gel every 2 hours to make sure the ants keep feeding. I spoke with one of the reps and she said I should combine protein with the gel bait. The protein I used was tuna. It created a frenzy unlike the advion. Guess what? The ants are still here. Looking for a better product.

It did not work for 2 types of ants (little black and fire) we are having at our house. I used bait at the openings where they were coming in, and they did not want any of it. I made about 10 bait stations, replacing every few days.

It doesn't work, the ants ignore it after
By John on 08/10/2023
If you're baiting ants with sugar this doesn't work. I can guarantee you my ants want sugar not protein, I've tested it with sweets, tried it with protein and compared it to other products like Terro and do homemade stuff with borax and the ants don't like this bait at all. I'm surprised as to why they didn't like it, I've always thought Advion is reliable but I guess its also a hit or miss

No success
By Teri on 02/16/2024
I had high hopes for this product and bought two cases but unfortunately it didn't do anything to attract the ants so they would carry the bait back to their colony.
Expert response:
That can happen as they are not always looking for a sugar/carb protein and depending on the type of ant you are dealing with. Advion Ant Bait Gel is highly appealing to sweet feeding ants. It is highly recommended to also use Advion Insect Granular Bait Insecticide or Maxforce Complete Granular Bait which are protein baits. You should always give ants a choice as they may be in the mood for either a protein (granule) or a sugar (gel) bait. Using Bait Plate Stations with your baits is an easy way to offer two different baits at one time.
Doesn't Seem to Work
By Becky on 08/25/2023
I have issues with carpenter ants and sugar ants every spring. I like trying new products so I bought this instead of my usual, Amdro and Terro, which both work great. This product is very easy and convenient to use, but there was no decrease in the ant population.
Expert response:
When treating for ants even "sugar" which is just for ants looking for sweets not a type, it's important to remember that ants go between 2 different types of tastes....sugar (which is the bait gel) and protein. If they're currently foraging for protein based foods, they'll avoid the gel bait, as it's sugar based. We always recommend getting both baits to offer them so you're always insured they'll be taking one of the 2 baits. You can view a great protein based granular bait here:

I hope this information helps. Please take a moment to read over our Ant Treatment Guide and How To Videos for lots of helpful information on treating for ants.

Advion Ant Bair Gel had no effect on ants.
By Robert on 08/19/2023
Very disappointed. I have used this product in the past with great success. This time it had not effect. The solution was very watered down. Don't know if it was defective or if the product has changed. Any way, it had no effect. Disappointed.

Carpenter Ants Won't Eat This
By Jerry on 08/18/2023
I used the gel inside the plastic bait traps the company sells since I have pets in the home. Unfortunately the carpenter ants won't touch it. Not sure if the gel doesn't taste good according to the ants or they won't enter the trap for whatever reason.
Expert response:
Carpenter ants do not typically go into stations It is best to apply small placements in cracks and crevices, especially where ants are seen foraging or entering the structure. Inspect gel placement and reapply as needed.
