There is nothing to activate on the Advion Cockroach Bait Arena. They are just placed in the areas where the targeted pest has been located.
Roach infestations do not build up in a short period of time and they do not usually go away in a short period of time especially in an apartment. Roach infestations can take several months to get rid of, though most folks see the infestation dramatically decline within the first couple weeks of treating. You would want to replace the Advion Roach Bait Arenas as often as needed when they are empty.
We recommend that you use caulk or other suitable material to close any crack, crevice or gap around baseboards, pipes, wires, cables, cabinets, vents, door frames, window frames and any other place where insects could enter. This will help stop the roaches from moving from adjoining apartments through the walls and into your apartment
In addition, you should spray around the perimeter of each room with a good insecticide such as Demon WP and you should use an insect growth regulator (Gentrol) to control the breeding cycle of the roaches that have already entered your apartment.
Advion Roach Bait Arena contains 60 bait stations that are pre-filled with roach bait gel. You will place them in areas where cockroaches frequent such as along walls or corners, under or near kitchen appliances and industrial equipment, under sinks, in cabinets, and utility areas. They are also used in areas like drawers and cabinets where bait could otherwise be at risk of contaminating utensils or food.
Advion Roach Arenas do contain bait so after several years they can be less palatable to the roaches. Please take a few moments to review our How to Get Rid of Roaches article for some helpful information. Just because you are not seeing dead roaches does not mean they are not dieing. They are not always going to die out in the open and often times will die in their nest. Are you seeing less roaches than you were before you put the stations down? Do you have enough stations down for the amount of infestation you have and is there still bait inside the stations you put down? Also, are you using any IGR's with your roach control regiment? If you are only using a bait, you could be killing off part of the colony just as quickly as they reproduce, so using a product like Gentrol IGR will sterilize the roaches so they cannot keep reproducing. Switching baits after a length of time using the same one is a good idea for a good pest management program for roach elimination. We also have Roach Control Kits that offer a great pest control plan for this insect.
Advion Cockroach Bait Arena would be placed label side down.
There is such a small amount of active ingredient in Advion Roach Bait Arena that it would not harm pets unless they were to ingest closer to their body weight. Please consult your vet if you have any concerns about your pet's health.
Advion Roach Bait Arena will not attract roaches from other units, only the ones in the area it is placed. It will help with those roaches that are in other areas if these same roaches eat the bait and go back to the colonies or contact other roaches that have eaten or died from it.
It is not recommended to Advion Cockroach Bait Arena along with other roach bait gels like the Maxforce that contains Fipronil. These roach bait gels use different food based ingredients to attract roaches to the bait. If you were to use two competing sources, the roaches will not be able to follow the scent of the attractant.
It is recommended to rotate roach baits every 90 days, so that is when you could switch to the Maxforce or the Advion. Please review our Roach Treatment Guide for more information. Here is a video on where to place the roach bait gel placements for the best results.

There is a possibility that the Advion Cockroach Bait Arena could work to kill small black ants if there were to get into the station and eat it. The bait matrix is designed only to attract roaches though so we cannot advise nor comment on using off label for ants specifically.
The Advion Cockroach Bait Arena https://www.domyown.com/advion-cockroach-bait-arena-p-396.html has a shelf life of 5 years. Any bait arenas that have not been used would still contain bait and be fine to use. Once in use the arenas should be replaced every 3 months.
The Advion Roach Bait Arenas are made for smaller roaches such as the Brown-Banded or German roaches. When dealing with the larger roaches such as the Palmetto Bugs (aka American Roaches) it may be better to use a roach bait gel such as The Maxforce FC Magnum or the Advion Roach Bait Gel. Please refer to our Roach Treatment Guide for more tips on how to eradicate this pest.
The Advion Cockroach Bait Arenas start working immediately once you put them out. The level of population you are starting with will determine how long the infestation make take to eliminate completely. For most this is a 2-4 month process if using all recommended products for controlling roaches, such as using an IGR to stop the reproductive cycle, and an insecticide concentrate that helps transfer through the colony.
If you believe your dog may have ingested or tampered with the Advion Cockroach Bait Arena, we recommend contacting your Vet for any concerns.
