Product Overview

Why settle for partial control when you can control the entire colony? Advion Fire Ant Bait controls the entire colony of fire ants, pavement ants, or big-headed ants in just 24 to 74 hours. In addition, Advion is the ideal choice for broadcast applications or for treating fire ant mounds directly.

Up to 4 applications of Advion Fire Ant Bait may be applied per year. These are generally applied at 12 to 16 week intervals. However, rainfall or irrigation within 2 to 3 hours after application may reduce the effectiveness of Advion Fire Ant Bait and a repeat application within 7 days may be necessary to achieve the desired level of control.

Details

Advion Fire Ant Bait is a granular insecticide bait labeled to control Imported Fire Ants, Big-Headed Ants, and Pavement Ants. Designed for use in lawns, landscapes, and other outdoor areas, the bait helps target ant colonies and provides an effective solution for managing active infestations and maintaining long-term ant control.

What pests does Advion Fire Ant Bait control?

Advion Fire Ant Bait is labeled to control:

  • Imported Fire Ants
  • Big-Headed Ants
  • Pavement Ants

For best results, apply the bait when ants are actively foraging and follow all label directions regarding application rates and timing.

When is the best time to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait?

Advion Fire Ant Bait works best when fire ants are actively foraging, which typically occurs during spring, summer, and early fall. For optimal results, apply the bait when soil surface temperatures are above 60°F, and ant activity is high.

Apply the bait during dry weather conditions and avoid applications when the treatment area is wet from rainfall, irrigation, or heavy dew. Applying the bait when ants are actively searching for food helps improve bait acceptance and overall colony control.

Where can Advion Fire Ant Bait be used?

Advion Fire Ant Bait can be applied in a variety of outdoor locations where fire ants are active, including:

  • Residential lawns
  • Landscaped areas
  • Ornamental beds
  • Around homes and structures
  • Commercial properties
  • Parks and recreational areas
  • Other labeled outdoor sites

The product may be used as a broadcast treatment over larger areas or as a targeted mound treatment around individual fire ant mounds.  This flexibility makes Advion Fire Ant Bait an excellent option for both localized and property-wide fire ant control.

Always follow the product label for complete site-use directions.

How long does Advion Fire Ant Bait remain effective after application?

Advion Fire Ant Bait is intended to be collected by foraging fire ants shortly after application. Performance depends on factors such as ant activity, weather conditions, and application timing.

Applying the bait when ants are actively foraging and environmental conditions are favorable helps maximize effectiveness. For ongoing management, repeat applications may be made according to label directions.

How often should Advion Fire Ant Bait be applied?

Like most fire ant bait products, Advion Fire Ant Bait may require multiple applications throughout the year for ongoing control.

Up to four applications per year can be made, typically at 12- to 16-week intervals, depending on fire ant pressure and environmental conditions. Routine applications can help maintain long-term control of active colonies.

What happens if it rains after applying Advion Fire Ant Bait?

Rainfall or irrigation within 2 to 3 hours after application may reduce the effectiveness of Advion Fire Ant Bait by limiting the amount of bait collected by foraging ants.

If significant rainfall or watering occurs shortly after treatment, a repeat application within 7 days may be necessary to achieve the desired level of ant control. For best results, allow ants sufficient time to collect the bait before rainfall or irrigation occurs.

Do I need a spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait?

No. A broadcast spreader is not required to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait. Many homeowners successfully apply the bait by hand around active fire ant mounds.

If you are treating larger areas, you may use a broadcast spreader, hand spreader, or fertilizer spreader as long as it can be calibrated to distribute the low application rate required for the product. Because Advion Fire Ant Bait is applied at very low rates, begin with the lowest spreader setting and adjust as needed to achieve even coverage.

Whether applying by hand or with a spreader, always follow the application instructions on the product label for best results.

How much area does Advion Fire Ant Bait cover?

A 2-pound container of Advion Fire Ant Bait covers more than one acre when applied according to label directions.

At the labeled broadcast application rate of approximately 1.5 pounds per acre, a single container provides enough product to treat large lawns, landscapes, and other outdoor areas affected by fire ants.

How do you apply Advion Fire Ant Bait for effective fire ant control?

Advion Fire Ant Bait can be applied as a broadcast treatment across large areas or as a targeted application around individual fire ant mounds.

Broadcast Treatments: Make application with broadcast equipment capable of applying 1.5 pounds of Advion Fire Ant Bait per acre. Calibrate and adjust equipment prior to application to ensure that the proper rate of product will be applied. Retreat after 12-16 weeks if needed.

Individual Mound Treatments: Do not disturb the mound. Do not apply to the tops of mounds. Apply 4 level tablespoons (0.5 oz) of Advion Fire Ant bait per mound, uniformly distributing the product 3-4 feet around the mound. Retreat after 12-16 weeks if needed.

For best results, apply the bait when fire ants are actively foraging and always follow the application instructions on the product label.

What is the shelf life of Advion Fire Ant Bait?

Advion Fire Ant Bait has a shelf life of approximately 2 years when unopened and stored in its original container.

Once opened, the product should be used within 6 months for optimal performance. Store the bait in a cool, dry location and keep the container tightly sealed to help maintain freshness and attractiveness to foraging fire ants.

    Advion Fire Ant Bait

    By Bridget on 08/02/2010

We used this for the first time on our home in Florida. When we arrived there were several new areas of infestation. We checked the weather forecast to avoid rain and using a hand spreader treated the entire yard. It was immediate that the ants starting taking the small pieces into their home. Ants were gone overnight. Three days later we had a heavy rain (usually we would have several new hills after a rain) and we only noticed one new hill on the periphery of our treatment area. No new areas have occurred yet and it has been almost a month.

    Advion Fire Ant Bait

    By Daniel on 07/07/2011

    Verified Purchase

I recently moved into a new house in southwest Florida. I immediately noticed numerous fire ant hills all around my yard and house. I had fire ant hills near one side of the house and the colony was so large that even my grass was not growing in that are because all of the mounds. Tired of being bit and my yard looking horrible I invested in Advion Fire Ant Bait through DoMyOWnPestControl.com. I received the product and followed its directions. Sounds too good to be true but I noticed results within one day. After about a week I noticed one active mound and I applied a little more Advion in that area. I am now in my opinion fire ant free in my yard. I recently mowed my yard with my push mower and anybody that push mows their grass pretty much sees their whole lawn! I am very pleased to have my yard back.

    This stuff is great

    By Derek on 08/17/2014

    Verified Purchase

I read the reviews and thought I would give this product a try. I used to use the white powdery crap in the brown container with the yellow lid that you can buy at the big home center stores. You'd find lots of dead ants about half an hour after you sprinkled it on the mound, but there would always be another mound pop back up in the same general area a few weeks later. It seemed to just make them move to a new spot and build another mound. Since we moved into our house about 5 years ago, there has always been a fire ant mound by the lid to the septic tank, and another one around the edge of the concrete on our back patio. I'd sprinkle the white powdery crap on them and they would go away for a bit, then there would be a new mound a few feet away. I purchased some Advion bait this past spring and sprinkled it around these mounds without disturbing them like the directions say, and plenty of others that I found around our 1 acre lot. The mounds are all gone now and have not popped back up in the same general area. This stuff works great and I recommend it to others.

    Advion Fire Ant Bait

    By Frances on 06/01/2011

    Verified Purchase

Very fast shipping. Applied the product according to directions and within 3-4 days ants were gone. I have 2.5 acre yard and had a very heavy infestation of fire ants, other products seemed only to make the mounds move a few feet. Great product

Q
How long before it is safe to let my dogs back in the yard after Advion application?

A friend in the profession told me that Advion is the only product that works. Just moved to Texas, and am unfamiliar with fire ants. Brand new build, 5000sqft, infestation was in my son's room on the first floor. I had a professional service do the perimeter and the inside of my home. I would like to treat my entire yard, but after reading the label and MSDS sheet, I have concern for my son and my two small dogs. Thank you for any assistance on my question, and I'm open to any hints on how best to apply!

A
When you apply the product properly in a broadcast application you only have to keep the pets and children out of the area during the application. Once the product is broadcast, only a very minute amount will be available (and a child or dog would be very hard pressed to even find that amount in a broadcast application) which would not be enough to harm your dogs or child. The MSDS also says that the product is not likely to be hazardous if inhaled, swallowed or if comes into contact with skin.
"IF INHALED: No specific intervention is indicated as the
compound is not likely to be hazardous by inhalation.
Consult a physician if necessary.
IF ON SKIN OR CLOTHING: No specific intervention is
indicated as the compound is not likely to be hazardous to
the skin. Consult a physician if necessary.
IF IN EYES: No specific intervention is indicated as the
compound is not likely to be hazardous to the eyes. Consult
a physician if necessary.
IF SWALLOWED: No specific intervention is indicated as the
compound is not likely to be hazardous by ingestion.
Consult a physician if necessary"

Q
Do you need a broadcast spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait?

Do we need to use a broadcast spreader to apply the Advion Fire Ant Bait, or can we just sprinkle it on/around the mounds? Affordability of a spreader is our main issue with purchasing one. We do have a fertilizer/weedandfeed spreader, can we use that to apply the Advion Fire Ant Bait?

A
You do not have to have a broadcast spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait though it can make the application a bit easier for you. You can simply just sprinkle the bait around (not on) the mounds as directed on the product label. As long as the spreader you have can be calibrated to spread the small amount needed per acre you could use it.

Q
Is there an effective product for annual application to stop fire ants? I read about Advion Fire Ant Bait but it seems that repeated applications are needed.
A
Like many fire ant baits, Advion Fire Ant Bait should be applied more than once.
The product needs to be applied when they are actively foraging, usually when the soil surface temperature is above 60 degrees. You can make up to 4 applications of ADVION® fire ant bait per year. These are generally applied at 12 to 16 week intervals. However, rainfall or irrigation within 2 to 3 hours after application may reduce the effectiveness of ADVION® fire ant bait and a repeat application within 7 days may be necessary to achieve the desired level of control. Do not apply if the area to be treated is wet with dew, irrigation or rainfall.
