Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance; they can transmit diseases such as West Nile virus and may spread heartworm disease to dogs and cats. Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide helps reduce mosquito populations by targeting mosquitoes during their immature aquatic stages before they become breeding, biting adults. Treating mosquito breeding sites around your property can significantly reduce future mosquito activity.
Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide is a granular mosquito larvicide that contains an insect growth regulator (IGR) called methoprene. It is applied directly to standing water where mosquitoes breed. Rather than killing adult mosquitoes, Altosid prevents mosquito larvae and pupae from developing into biting adult mosquitoes, helping break the mosquito life cycle before mosquitoes become a nuisance.
Altosid Pro-G can be applied to virtually any temporary or permanent standing water site that supports mosquito breeding or where mosquitoes lay eggs, including:
It can also be used in agricultural settings such as irrigated cropland, pastures, vineyards, rice fields, orchards, and berry fields where mosquitoes breed.
Yes. According to the manufacturer, Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide can be used in bodies of water that contain fish. It is also suitable for use in many ornamental and recreational water features where mosquitoes breed. For small ponds, apply the granules around shallow edges where mosquito larvae are most likely to develop.
Always follow the product label for specific application instructions and rates.
Yes. Altosid Pro-G is labeled for use in bird baths, horse troughs, ornamental fountains, rain barrels, and other animal drinking water receptacles where mosquitoes may breed. When used according to the product label, it helps prevent mosquito development without affecting the intended use of these water sources.
No, Altosid Pro-G does not typically kill mosquito eggs. Instead, it prevents mosquito larvae and pupae from successfully maturing into adult mosquitoes. If mosquitoes lay eggs in treated water, you may still see eggs or immature stages, but they will not develop into breeding, biting adults.
Mosquito larvicides target mosquitoes before they become flying, biting adults. By treating breeding sites with Altosid Pro-G, you can reduce future mosquito populations at the source. For best results, many homeowners combine larval control in standing water with adult mosquito treatments in landscaped areas where mosquitoes rest.
No. Altosid Pro-G is designed to control mosquito larvae and prevent them from developing into adults. It does not kill existing adult mosquitoes and has no effect on mosquitoes that have already reached the adult stage before treatment.
Yes. Altosid Pro-G may be applied before flooding or before mosquito eggs hatch in areas that flood intermittently. In some situations, a single application can prevent adult mosquito emergence through several subsequent flooding events. Actual control duration depends on the frequency and duration of flooding.
Apply Altosid Pro-G evenly over the surface of the water according to the size of the treatment area:
For small containers such as flower pots, urns, old tires, and similar water-holding receptacles, use approximately 80 granules per gallon of water.
One 2.5 lb container of Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide can treat up to 5,445 square feet of water surface area when applied according to label directions.
A single application of Altosid Pro-G releases effective levels of Methoprene for up to 30 days. To maintain season-long mosquito control, applications should be repeated every 30 days or as directed on the product label.
The most effective mosquito prevention strategy is to eliminate standing water whenever possible. Emptying, draining, or discarding containers that collect water will help reduce mosquito breeding. When water cannot be removed, treating it with Altosid Pro-G provides long-lasting larval control.
Yes. Water flow, exchange, or frequent flushing can reduce the effectiveness of Altosid Pro-G by removing the active ingredient from the treatment area. Sites with moving water may require more frequent applications or higher application rates as directed by the product label.

This stuff is GREAT!!!! Use it in high grass, small puddles, and large pond. does not affect nature. FAST acting! AWESOME product!! mosquitos hatch w/in 3 days of raining, need to apply accordingly. lasts about 30 days!!! If you wait until mosquitos are hatching: you have decreased amt of mosquitos w/in 24 hours, almost none after 48 hours. Never found a better product. Using it for about 20 years.

By Rick on 05/22/2014
We start using this product around the end of February beginning of March around the areas that hold water, even if they're dry, and keep treatment going through the season. So far as we've been using it, it's worked great.

By Steve on 07/15/2018
Your staff person was very valuable and gave me all the information I needed to see if this product would work in with my specific application. have a relatively small water feature that i had been using mosquito dunks for larvicide. They worked ok but left material floating around on the surface of the water. This is fantastic.
