I want to use a pre-emergent to control Kochia, Russian Thistle and goat heads in my native yard in New Mexico. This yard consists of native grasses, cactus and wild flowers. I have been controlling seed production for 3 years through selective removal with a weed whacker. The results are good but it requires huge amounts of time and effort. I want to finish off the weeds or at least put a further hurting on them. Questions. 1) Will Isoxaben control russian thistle, kochia and goat head see germination? 2)will this be kind to my established native plants and grasses? 3) will this also kill my native seeds from plants such as Blue Gramma, buffalo grass and other grasses and plants native to New Mexico? Abby infor appreciated
Yes, you can use Isoxaben 75 WG Herbicide to control Kochia and Russian Thistle. But you will need to use something with a different active for the Goatheads or Puncturvine. Look at using something with Pendamethalin or Trifluralin as an active. You can mix these two products together or look for something like snapshot that has them together already. You shouldn't have any issues with these products for existing plants but plants grown from seed would be an issue.
