    Limestone pellets

    By Bill on 04/14/2023

Disappointed in this product. When I open the bag instead of pellets it was more like dust. It did not spread very well.

    Never Buy Austinville Limestone

    By Bill on 06/16/2023

After soil analysis was done, I purchased 4 each 60 pound bags of Austinville Limestone Pelletized Limestone for my acidic lawn. The driving factor was a recommendation from a vendor plus the words "pelletized" on the label. I opened the first bag and one look told me that I was in trouble. After inspecting the contents of all four bags, there was no difference between any of them. Each of the bags were identical containing less than a handful of pellets, the remainder of each bag consisted of the most finely ground powder I've ever seen. Comparing the content s of each bag to talcum powder, the only difference was that one was gray in color and the other is white. I own a pull behind drop spreader, a pull behind rotary spreader, a walk behind manual spreader, and a hand held walk along crank spreader. I shook my head and told myself "good luck". I knew that none of them would work properly but I was trying not to think of the alternative application method. One at a time, I tried each spreading tool and not only was the powder fine, it was so dense that it jammed the flow paths of each spreader. To add insult to injury, I had to recover the contents of each spreader and return the lime to the bag from which it came. By this time, I had used every word that you at one time couldn't use on television, several times over. I prayed to Above for forgiveness and looked around my tool shed with very little hope of coming to a solution for my dilemma. Well, over in the corner was a bright red plastic hand scoop. Back out to the lawn with scoop in hand I jammed the scoop into a bag of Austinville so that it was about 1/4 full. I experimented with several techniques in order to spread the lime onto the lawn in some type of satisfactory motion. Well, shaking the scoop from left to right in an almost level position finally was found to work best. So........ there I was with 240 pounds of powdered "pelletized" lime, a red plastic scoop, and 15,000 square feet of lawn to treat by hand. By the time I finished 7 hours later out in the hot sun, I had completed my task with the help of a 6 pack, a soaking wet head band that had been wrung out a multitude of times, and a very sore right wrist. All this happened while my lawn tractor, a drop spreader, a rotary spreader, a walk behind spreader, and a walk along crank spreader sat over in the shade as if they were laughing at me. So (again) ....... BUYER BEWARE!!!! Never, ever, or evermore will I buy Austinville anything!!!!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!
