    Q
Can I melt down this roach gel , add Vaseline to keep it moist and add roach dust and maybe some sugar?
The roach gel gets rock hard and ineffective quick. It takes up space because I need to put down another application on top of the old gel bait.
    A
Heating up the roach gel to the melting point could render it ineffective as the active ingredient is liable to breakdown. Adding roach dust or vaseline will most likely contaminate the bait and make it unattractive to the roaches. You can place the roach bait gel into reusable bait plate stations to stop the gel from drying out and to avoid having to place the product directly on surfaces where it would be hard to remove. Many people choose to place the gel bait on small pieces of plastic wrap or foil to avoid placing it directly on surfaces where the gel may be hard to remove.

  • Asked by Isaac from Vallejo, Ca

    Q
What's the space needed in between bait stations for outdoor use? Should I place them every 10-20 feet apart?
    A

There is not a specific amount of feet in between stations for indoor or outdoor baiting. Below are some helpful baiting tips.

How to Apply Bait Indoors: Apply small placements in cracks and crevices, especially where ants are seen foraging or entering the structure. Inspect gel placement and reapply as needed. For optimum success, follow the directions printed on the individual product label.

    • Additional Indoor Baiting Tips:
      • Remove competitive food sources. Practicing good sanitation is the best way to remove food particles or spills that may serve to deter ants from accepting chemical baits.
      • Always use fresh bait. As a rule, only place baits with packaging that was opened within the last 6 months.
      • Do not use residual sprays or dusts anywhere near bait placements. Doing so may either kill ants before they can take the bait or repel them from seeking out chemical bait.
      • It is better to err on the side of too many bait placements than too few. If possible, place baits at all potential entry points.
      • Do not move or tamper with the bait once the ants have begun feeding.

    Q
Do Bait Plate Stations work with carpenter ants?
Another part of your site says they don't like to take bait from some types of stations.
    A
Yes, carpenter ants will go into the bait stations to take bait out. These cartidges do come empty so you will need to put bait inside of them. We would recommend using the Complete Ant Kit. It comes with a sugar and a protein bait for the ants to take back to the colony. It also comes with 12 bait stations. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Do you put the Advance 375A Granules or the Maxforce FC Ant Gel in the bait plate stations?
We have put gel in one side and granules in the other. We have lots of dead ones but then they reappear in another area. We have an INVASION!!!!
    A

We recommend placing either the Advance 375A Granules or the Maxforce FC Ant Bait Gel in the bait plate stations. You can also put both (one on each side of the tray) baits in the stations at the same time.

    Q
Can i use the bait plate stations outside for Slugs/Snails?
Do you recommend using these bait stations filled with Niban to control Slugs/Snails? I'm considering using Niban as a slug/snail bait around my Hostas.
    A
The Bait Plate Station when used with the lid on top are only large enough to accomodate an insect the size of an ant. The Niban Granular Bait is designed to be spread across the ground for the insects to find as they are foraging for food. It is a moisture resistant bait so it will hold up to the outdoor elements (up to 4 inches of rain) longer than an average bait granule. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Assembling the syringe. How do you attach the plunger? I got the ant kit and the instructions are confusing.
    A
You would simply push the smaller end of the plunger into the open end of the syringe. Be sure to remove the cap from the tip of the syringe and push slowly to expel the bait from the syringe.

    Q
About how much ant bait gel does each Bait Plate Station hold?
I am trying to figure out how much gel to purchase.

The Bait Plate Stations will only hold a couple grams of bait which is all that is needed per treatment area. Most folks will purchase the package of 12 bait plate stations and 1 box of 4 tubes of ant bait.

    Q
I have used the bait gel in the past but now my wife has two cats. Is it safe?
Can this bait gel be used around pets (cats)?
    A

You didn't mention which bait gel you plan on using.  However, most bait gels are pet safe when used as directed on the product label.  They should be placed in areas that are inaccessible to pets or in Bait Plate Stations.

Can the Bait Plate Stations be used for carpenter ants?

    Q
What roach product can be applied in the bait plate stations?
    A

You just want to inject a thin line of Maxforce Magnum along the bottom inside the bait station. You can see what it should look like on our Bait Plate Station page. We recommend that you treat with our Roach Control Kit Rotation A. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article and videos on How to Get Rid of Roaches for more helpful information.
