Product Overview

Ballast Herbicide is a non-selective herbicide designed for total vegetation control. Formulated with two active ingredients, imazapyr and flumioxazin, it targets a wide range of annual, biennial, and perennial weeds commonly found along roadsides, railroads, industrial facilities, storage yards, and utility areas. Ballast delivers strong residual activity and helps manage tough, recurring vegetation in areas where long-term weed control is essential.

Ballast Herbicide can be used for both preemergence and postemergence control. The formulation is water-soluble liquid, and it may also be tank mixed with compatible herbicides, such as glyphosate, to improve burndown of existing weeds. Labeled target weeds include kochia, pigweeds, ragweed, Russian thistle, foxtails, crabgrasses, johnsongrass, and other invasive grasses and broadleaf weeds frequently found in industrial vegetation management programs.

After application, Ballast begins working on treated foliage and prevents new weed emergence once rainfall or irrigation activates its residual component in the soil. For best results, it should be applied to young, actively growing weeds under favorable conditions.

Full Treatment Areas List: For non selective total vegetation control on roadsides, highway medians, railroad crossings, roads, improved roadside areas, gravel shoulders, industrial and utility plant sites, utility substations, petroleum tank farms, pumping installations, storage areas, above ground pipelines, railroad beds, and railroad yards where bare ground is desired. Ballast Herbicide may only be applied to these labeled noncrop areas.

Full Application Instructions: To maintain bare ground non crop areas, apply Ballast Herbicide at 32 to 48 fluid ounces per acre as a broadcast treatment. For best preemergence residual activity, the product must be activated by at least one half inch rainfall or irrigation within two to three weeks after application and applied when soil temperatures are appropriate. Higher use rates and cooler soil conditions extend residual control, while high rainfall and temperatures may shorten residual.

When existing vegetation is present, include an appropriate adjuvant.  Apply in a minimum spray volume of 15 gallons of water per acre by ground and 5 to 10 gallons of water per acre by air, not exceeding 40 psi for aerial applications. For handgun applications, use at least 40 gallons of spray solution per acre to ensure uniform coverage.

After application, clean spray equipment by completely draining the tank, flushing with clean water, and circulating a tank cleaning solution through the system according to label directions. Observe all restrictions on maximum yearly rates, re-treatment intervals, drift management, buffer distances to desirable plants and crops, and site limitations as stated on the label.
