    Q
How much of Barricade 4FL should I use in a 1 gallon sprayer?
The label does not give specific info about mixing small amounts.
    A
Herbicides are much different than other chemicals because water just acts as the carrier. In this case the product label recommends  you use .23 - 1.1 oz per 1,000 sq ft to be treated. Please read the product label to determine the exact usage rate for your needs as it varies according to the species of grass you have. Once you have determined the usage rate per 1,000 sq ft you can follow the outlined steps to decide how much water you should use per 1,000 sq ft (this will vary for every person as the type of equipment will be different and the walking speed of the applicator will be different).
1.Mark off an area that is 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet or 25 by 40 feet).
    2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water (no herbicide) noting the final level of water in the spray tank.
    3. Spray the marked 1,000 sq ft  area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage.
4.Refill the spray tank with the amount of water it took you to cover the 1,000 sq ft area
    5. Add the pre-determined amount of herbicide that is needed to cover the 1,000 sq ft area to the spray tank.
Example: If the sprayer uses 1 gallon of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of the chosen herbicide is .80 fluid oz./1,000 square feet, then you would add .80 fluid ounces of the chosen herbicide to every 1 gallon of water to be used.

  • Asked by Brenton from San Jose Ca

    Q
Can Barricade 4FL Herbicide be used around a fruit tree and vegetable garden?
    A

Barricade 4FL Herbicide should be applied a few feet away from fruit trees and vegetable gardens. Also, it would be best to cover the garden if possible to be sure that no drift spray touches the growing plants. You may want to consider a product like Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder or Prowl H2O Herbicide. Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder is a pre-emergent herbicide that helps to control grasses and broadleaf weeds. This is one of the only products that is safe to use in vegetable gardens and can also be used in flowers, trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and rock gardens. Prowl H2O contains Pendimethalin as its active ingredient, which provides broad-spectrum residual control of annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds in more than 100 crops.

  • Asked by Brandon from Arab
    03/28/2024
    Q
When is the best time of year to apply Barricade? ?
    For the south.
    A
The general rule for spring is to apply your pre-emergent herbicide treatment such as Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide (Prodiamine) after the ground has thawed from the winter but before the temperature of your soil reaches 55 degrees, as that is when crabgrass begins to germinate. Other weeds will germinate when the soil temperature is between 55 and 65 degrees. You can use a soil thermometer to determine the temperature of your lawn/area. You will want to measure the temperature of the soil a few inches below ground.

The ideal time to apply a fall pre-emergent herbicide to your yard is between August and November when the soil temperature is below 70 degrees and dropping.

You may calso ontact your local cooperative extension office to determine the correct timing of the application as this will vary greatly from region to region or search online for best time to apply in (your area). A lot of universities have great articles for this.

    Q
    Will Barricade 4FL Pre-Emergent Herbicide work well in a quart-size, hose-end sprayer?
    A
