    What is the difference between Bifen XTS and Bifen IT?
    I want to use this in a backpack mister/blower for mosquitoes. Will one work better than the other? Also how does this compare to Permethrin SFR?

    Bifen I/T is our most popular choice for mosquito control. This is a water based bifenthrin resdiual insecticide that provides around a 30 day residual outdoors. Bifen XTS uses the same active ingredient bifenthrin but a higher oil based concentration. For general residential mosquito control, the XTS higher concentration is typically not necessary unless you live in a region that experiences high amounts of rainfall.

    Bifen IT would be recommended over Permethrin SFR 36.8% due to the the active ingredient permethin breaking down quicker in sunlight requiring repeat applications every 2 weeks where Bifen IT and Bifen XTS provide a residual of about 30 days (weather depending)

    The most important thing to remember when treating for mosquitoes is that they hang out on the underside of leaves and shrubs during the heat of the day so focusing on those areas when spraying is recommended. Thoroughly spray the foliage of all bushes, trees, and shrubs around the home or areas in the yard where you socialize. It’s also recommended to spray along any tree lines that may border your property as well as the exterior perimeter foundation, under eaves, overhangs. ember to not only treat the main bush or shrub but also the underside of the leaves.

    Will Bifen XTS harm pets?
    A
    No. Bifen XTS will not harm pets when used as directed on the product label. All pets and people (except for the applicator) should be out of the area while the application is being made, and they can return as soon as the treated area is dry.

    What is the residual time of Bifen XTS & how long will it keep bugs away when sprayed?

    Bifen XTS will have a residual of about 4-8 weeks depending on rain and UV rays in the given area. Bifen XTS will not repel insects but instead will kill them within 24 hours of contact.

    Will rain after an application of Bifen XTS reduce the effectiveness of the product?
    I applied it to my yard. About 45 minutes after I finished the application, it rained(moderate to light) for about an hour. Also, how long does it take to see results. I have a flea problem, and I am trying to eliminate them.

    Typically, Bifen XTS as well as many other liquid insecticides only need about 30 minutes to dry. Once dry, they can hold up to rain rather well.  However, it is much easier for the product to bond to porous surfaces like concrete and siding then grass and your lawn. You may want to apply again just to be safe when there is not rain in the forecast for at least 24 hours. Typically, for fleas it can take a week or two to see results. You should treat every 14 days for fleas. It usually takes at least 2 to 3 treatments since Bifen XTS or any other product will kill the eggs. You need to treat every 14 days, 2 to 3 times, so you make sure the product is strong enough to kill the hatched eggs every 2 weeks.

    The proper dilution rate of Bifen XTS is .32 of an ounce per gallon of water.  This works out to be about 19 ounces for 60 gallons of water, or a little more than 1/2 of a quart bottle.

    Can you compare Bifen XTS vs. Bifen I/T?
    Is Bifen XTS as effective as Bifen I/T? I have been using Bifen I/T but customers have complained that it is not effective on mosquitoes. What is best application method, sprayer or backpack mister? Does Bifen XTS have an odor? Will it stain? Can it irritate the skin? Thank you

    Bifen I/T is one of our most popular products for mosquito control.  Bifen XTS is basically the same product, just in a higher concentration, and oil-based instead of water-based.  For mosquito control you do not need the higher concentration, it is not necessary.  The most important thing to remember when treating for mosquitoes is that they hang out on the underside of leaves and shrubs.  You should treat all shrubs, bushes and trees, remembering to not only treat the main bush or shrub but also the underside of the leaves.  Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, so if there are any areas of standing water where you are treating, those should be treated as well with BTI Mosquito Dunks or Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide.

    Either sprayer or mister application would be effective with either product as long as the application is thorough.  Oil-based products such as Bifen XTS can stain some surfaces.  This is not usually a concern in most areas outside, but you should use caution when treating around the siding of a home.  Most oil-based products such as Bifen XTS do have a "chemical" odor but it is not especially strong.

    Both Bifen I/T and Bifen XTS can cause moderate skin irritation.  Be sure to use adequate skin protection as outlined on the product label, such as wearing gloves and long pants/sleeves to avoid this.

    Can Bifen XTS be used when temperature exceeds 85?
    A
    We would not recommend using Bifen XTS at temperatures over 85 degrees as this is an oil based product and can burn plants it comes into contact with under extreme heat. We recommend spraying in early morning or late evening.

    The proper dilution rate of Bifen XTS is .32 of an ounce per gallon of water. Each gallon of water used will on average cover 1000 sq/ft so a quart will cover roughly 2 1/2 acres.

    Does the higher concentration of Bifen XTS make it superior to Bifen IT for normal outdoor spraying?

    Bifen XTS does not really make it that much better than the normal Bifen IT, its just that one quart container can make much more than the equivalent Bifen IT. 

    For lawn applications – Bifen IT is applied at 0.5 to 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1000 sq ft vs Bifen XTS which is applied at 0.07-0.30 fl oz per 2 gallons of water every 1000 sq ft.

    When using Bifen XTS, you only need about a third of an ounce to make the same treatment. You can make many more gallons of solution from one container of Bifen XTS than you can with the normal Bifen IT.

    Can Bifen XTS be applied with a hose-end sprayer?
    I see you recommend this product with the use of a poly sprayer (as well as for use with some others, such as the Bifen IT and Talstar P)...but can it also be used/applied with a hose-end sprayer?

    Yes, Bifen XTS can be applied with a hose end sprayer as long as it can be set to the correct product/water ratio as adivsed per the product label.

    Lawns: 0.07-0.30 fl oz per 2 gallons of water every 1000 sq ft
    Ornamentals: 0.02 fl oz – 0.128 fl oz (0.15 -0.76 tsps) per gallon of water. 
    Exterior perimeter foundation: 0.16 fl oz – 0.33 fl oz (0.33 tbsp to 0.66 tbsp) per gallon of water. 

    Bifen XTS is a highly concentrate oil based insecticide with application rates that are minimal per gallon of water compared to the 0.5 – 1 fl oz per gallon of water of Bifen IT or Talstar P that contain the same bifenthrin active ingredient. 

    We recommend the Chapin Wet/Dry Hose-end Sprayer which is very user friendly and can be set to spray very small concentrations down to 2 tsp per gallon of water.

    How soon after application Bifen XTS can dogs be allowed in the yard?
    We have two small dogs as pets. We let them out in the yard 3 or 4 times a day to play around. Should they be kept out of the yard after applying Bifen XTS and if so how long?

    Please wait at least 2 hours or until the Bifen XTS treated area has dried. After completely dried it is safe for people and pets to be around.

    Can Bifen I/T or Bifen XTS be used indoors?

    Bifen I/T is water-based, non-staining, and has no odor, so it is ideal for indoor use.  Bifen XTS should only be used outdoors, as it is oil-based, so it will have an odor and may stain some surfaces.

    What ratio do I mix Bifen XTS with water to kill fleas ?

    Bifen XTS is a little but different than most other insecticides. When using this product you will want to make sure you are getting correct usage rate of .15 fl oz per 1,000 sq ft in whatever amount of water you need to cover 1,000 sq ft. In this case water just acts as a carrier. If you need 1 gallon of water to cover 1,000 sq ft you will use .15 fl oz of Bifen XTS per gallon of water over 1,000 sq ft.

    I have chiggers and want to know when and how often to spray for them.
    I live in the bay area of No. Calif. and last summer I was bitten terribly by these things. How do I find where they are breeding?

    Bifen XTS is labeled for chiggers. You will use 1/6 fl. oz. per gallon of water. This can be used every 30 days outdoors. Chiggers normally  prefer moist habitats such as swamps and bogs, rotten logs and stumps.

    Looking to stop pests & bugs from entering my house. In instruction label, it appears to say 1 gallon per 10 linear foot. True?

    The proper dilution rate of Bifen XTS is .32 of an ounce per gallon of water for outside general pest control.  One gallon of finished solution will cover approx 1000 sqft.  The lineal footage you are referring to is if you are doing a trench for termites.
