    Q
Will Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine killer kill a 10 inch trumpet vine?
I have suckers coming up all around this vine and wonder if this will kill the suckers also?
    A

According to the label for Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer, "for best results when treating vines that grow on or around desirable plants, cut the vine first and treat as directed for stump treatments" which is to apply the product undiluted and to completely cover the freshly cut surface. We recommend to read over the product label instructions. Per the manufacturer, you can use 1-2 oz per Quart of water and spray the suckers directly and that will take care of them as well.

    Q
Will Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill a black locust tree and roots?
    A

Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer is labeled for locust.

To apply as a Stump Treatment: Apply this product undiluted to kill stumps and prevent sprouting. Using the applicator top, completely cover the freshly cut surface.

To use for Vine Control: For best results when treating vines such as poison oak, poison ivy, etc. that grow on or around desirable plants, cut the vine first and treat as directed above for stump treatment. Do not let product contact desirable plants.

To apply as a Foliar Spray: In a hose-end or tank sprayer, mix 8 to 16 tablespoons (4 to 8 fl. oz.) in enough water to make one gallon of spray mixture. Apply at the rate of one gallon spray mixture per 500 sq. ft. Coverage will depend on the amount of foliage to be treated. Apply as a thorough foliage spray to wet all leaves using a coarse spray pattern with low pressure. Use the higher rate for mature or hard-to-control plants (such as ash, blackgum, choke cherry, elm, maple, oak, pine, or winged elm), or during drought conditions. Using low rates may result in resprouting of weeds in a year following treatment. Make applications when brush and weeds are actively growing with full leaf coverage. In 1 to 6 weeks, symptoms such as wilting will occur. Make applications when the air is calm. Effectiveness may be reduced if rainfall occurs with 24 hours of application.

    Q
Will Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill vines with stickers on them?
I have tried most everything nothing seems to work on them long term.
    A

We apologize but without knowing the name of the actual vine we cannot say for sure that Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer will be effective on it.  The one sticker vines we can find information online about is smilax (deer thorn, catbrier), it has a thorny vine with waxy, heart-shaped leaves, which is not on the labe and appears to be very hard to control.  We would recommend contacting a master gardener at a local nursery or local cooperative extension office for help identifying the vine and we can make a recommendation once known.

  • Asked by Ed from Deer Park, Wa.
    05/16/2016
    Q
Will the Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill tree stumps and the roots?
The trees are down but the roots still are shooting up sprouts. Need to kill the roots. The trees were poplar and the roots are growing under my asphalt driveway.
    A

Yes. The Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer will kill the stump and the roots. You want to cut the suckers sprouts off, and make hatchet marks deep enought to hit the cambium cell layer of the tree. This layer is the growing part of the tree, and it will absorb the chemical to kill down to the roots.

  • Asked by Terry from Mckinney, Tx

    Q
Will Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill bamboo and horsetail?
My neighbor planted Horsetail reeds which have aggressively started sprouting on my yard. If I clip the reed at ground level and apply this to the top, will it kill the plant? I would prefer for it to be absorbed back to the other property to kill off the plant.
    A

Bonide Stump Out Stump and Vine Killer is not labeled for bamboo, although it is labeled for horsetail. It should work for bamboo, however, if you cut the plants down and apply the product undiluted to the freshly cut plants. You could also cut the bamboo and use something like Rodeo Herbicide. This product is labeled for both horsetail and bamboo. You may need multiple applications of herbicide to kill the horsetail, especially. Be sure to bag up plant cuttings so as not to cause further spreading of the seeds.
