    I wouldn't buy this again

I had my home sprayed with this for the wood post beetles and they were gone...until today they came back. For over a week not a single one was sighted. This does work on contact but the reason that I…

Bora-Care is the best wood treatment product on the market.  However, Bora-Care can take up to a month to diffuse completely through the entire piece of wood after you treat it.  Since powderpost beetle larvae can be deep in the wood, it is normal to continue to see activity for awhile until the Bora-Care makes it all the way through the wood.  Of course the true benefit of Bora-Care is that after it does diffuse all of the way through the wood and kill the larvae, it will stay in the wood forever and you never have to worry about wood destroying insects again.

    Q
can I treat lumber with 50/50 diesel & oil mix after the bora care product has dried for 3 days?

I need to protect wood from fungus as well as bugs

    A
We are unfamiliar with the diesel/oil treatment but please contact Nisus 800-264-0870 for more information on treating the lumber after.

    Q
I forgot and left the Boracare in the shed during three days of a hard freeze. Is it now inaffective?
    A

Yes, allowing Boracare to freeze can make it ineffective.  It should be stored in a controlled temperature area out of direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. You also want to avoid applying any product in below freezing temperatures because the water part of the mixture can sparate and freeze.

    Q
Western drywall termites in framing of house treated with Boracare. Still alive after 3 days. To be expected?

We gave all framing 2 treatments of 50/50 boracare/water 3 days ago. Still finding live termites crawling on treated wood. How long does it take to kill them? Is it a safe bet to reapply insulation and siding yet, or should we give the wood another treatment first? Should we be concerned that the termites will spread to other areas like say the attic where we have not treated, while everything is open and exposed to elements? Should we treat the back side of the siding and the black fire barrier material as well?

    A
Bora-Care can take up to 90 days to completely penetrate through all of the wood to where all of the termites are.  Bora-Care does not kill the termites by touch.  The termites walking on the wood are not effected.  Bora-Care kills the termites by ingestion.  After the Bora-Care has moved through the wood, the termites that are still in the wood will die when they continue to eat and ingest the Bora-Care with the wood.  You should treat all exposed sides of the wood that you can get to.  One treatment is normally enough unless the wood you are treating is more than 8 inches thick.  The termites will not spread easily to other areas so that is not a concern.

    Q
Will Boracare application prior to staining be effective for powder post beetles?

I have cleaned fir siding down to bare wood surface. I am now planning on applying TWP 1500 series stain.

    A
Yes, you may stain wood that has been treated with BoraCare. You should allow areas treated with BoraCare to dry for 24-48 hours before touching or painting them.

    Q
Can I apply Boracare with a paint brush? What should I do with left over solution? Can it be stored?
    A
Boracare is labeled to be applied with a paint brush. 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 mixture ratios must be used within 24 hours to prevent the product from degrading. A 1:5 mixture ratio can remain stable for up to 30 days. You should do your best to only mix enough solution for the job you are doing that day to prevent having to discard any solution. Any unused solution can be dumped out right up against the foundation of the structure taking care not to get it on plants.

    Q
How many dry days in a row do you need to have before applying Boracare to a cedar fence? And how long does it take to dry?

Also, if I apply this along the bottom three feet of my fence (sufficient for a termite barrier), will the fence stain evenly?

    A

Wood just needs to be dry before applying Bora-Care.  It can take up to 48 hours for it to dry after application.  It should dry clear when mixed as directed and would not affect stain once dry.
