    Q
Can I apply Boracare on wood which had been painted but stripped now?
I know that Boracare is for the untreated wood, but what about the wood which had been painted but it is stripped now? I am ready to repaint the handrail and I would like to use Boracare before I seal it with paint.
    A
Yes, you can use Boracare on wood that has been stripped. After the Boracare has dried for a couple of days it will be ready to be repainted.

    Q
Do you think the Boracare will have any negative effect on refinishing our hardwood floors?
We plan to sand our floors, treat with Boracare, wait 3 days to re-sand, stain, seal our floors. Can we be confident that Boracare will not have any negative effect on the refinishing process of our floors.
    A

BORACARE when used as directed on the product label should have no negative effect on the flooring.  Bora-Care dries clear and is used for this purpose all of the time, so it is no problem to stain and seal the wood after Bora-Care has been applied.

    Q
Can food coloring be added to Bora-Care rather than Turf Mark for an inexpensive temporary "marker"?
I am trying to keep costs down and will not need much. That quart of Turf Mark would be a waste, but I would like to know where I have been for a few days at least.
    A
Some of our customers have used this method, but it does not stay in the wood as long as the turf mark blue will and the color is not as bold.  But it is an option although you do need quite a bit of food coloring from what our customers have said.

    Q
Can I store Boracare for later use after it has been mixed?
Treatment with Bora-Care is planned, but in sistering joists that have had powderpost beetle damage in the past, I'm looking for a paintable treatment that doesn't need to be used up before it is unmixable. Bora-care recommends using all that is mixed, so I'm looking for an application that can be painted on, then sealed up for use as needed. Also, visited your site in Norcross and found the service nice, and very helpful. I'll definitely be a return customer. Thanks for your help.
    A

Thank you for your feedback.  We appreciate your business!  You may still be able to use Boracare as you have described, depending on the rate at which you mix it.  1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 mixture ratios must be used within 24 hours to prevent the product from degrading. A 1:5 mixture ratio can remain stable for up to 30 days. You should do your best to only mix enough solution for the job you are doing that day to prevent having to discard any solution.  We are not aware of another product that can be saved for later use once it has been mixed into solution.  After that point most products will start to not only break down and be less effective.

    Q
How long does it take an application of BoraCare to dry if applied with a sprayer to barn boards?
    A

The dry time for Boracare is entirely dependent on how heavy you sprayed, the mix rate you used, and how quickly the raw wood you treated can absorb the product. This can be anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

    A

Yes, once Boracare is applied as directed to the raw wood, it is recommended that you wait at least three days for the product to dry and soak through the entire piece of wood. Do not wait longer than six weeks to re-sand/stain/seal the floor.

    Q
How long do I wait until I can re-sand/stain/seal floors again after applying Boracare to striped floors?
We have active powderpost beetles in our hardwood floors and looks like non-active in our subfloors. We are told to sand down the hardwood floors and treat with boracare. Once boracare is applied how long do we have to wait to then stain and seal our floors? After boracare is applied do we have to worry about floors being waterstained from the application? Some refinishers want to re-sand after boracare is applied to avoid water staining. We are afraid this is just going to remove the boracare. Will the boracare penetrate through the hardwood floor and then onto the subfloor?
    A

Once Boracare is applied, it is recommended that you wait at least three days for the product to dry and soak through the entire piece of wood. Do not wait longer than six weeks to re-sand/stain/seal the floor.

    Q
I have a slab of soft wood. I need to treat (has bugs) how long until I can handle after using Bora-Care? Make cuts, plane, sand etc.
    A

When using Bora-care for raw wood applications, you can handle the wood for cutting and turning it into whatever you intend it to be once the wood has dried. This can often take anywhere from just a few hours, to a couple of days, based on how heavy you applied it, and how thick the wood was to provide time for full absorption.
