    Can Boracare be used to pre-treat the foundation of new construction & at what concentration?
    This would be done before any wood framing.
    A
    Boracare would work great as a pre treatment for wood you are using. To pre treat the soil you are laying the foundation on, we recommend using Termidor SC. You want to dilute .8 fl oz Termidor per gallon water. Apply one gallon diluted solution per 10 sq feet.

    Can BORACARE be used full strength to penetrate better or is dilution required?
    A

    Boracare does need to be diluted depending on what you are intending to use the product for. For an active infestation of a wood destroying insect, you will use 1 gallon of hot water with 1 gallon of Boracare. The percentage of active ingredient is 23% in that dilution.

    2:1 parts water to Boracare – 16% - foaming or misting application for termites or carpenter ants; hardwood floors for some wood-infesting beetles

    3:1 parts water to Boracare – 13% - remedial control of Fungi and Algae on wood less than 4 inches thick

    5:1 parts water to Boracare – 9% - most preventative or pre-construction treatments.

    Will Boracare cause mold?
    Should I get boracare with boracare mold control?

    Boracare will not cause mold and the Boracare with Mold Care is only needed if you are trying to treat for mold that is currently there or to help prevent it in an area like a crawl space that has a moisture problem.

    I have dry wood termites in cabinets in some hard to reach places. I have tried Term-Out, and it does not work.

    How do I exterminate powder post beetles?
    I am remodeling a bathroom, and I found powder post beetle residue behind shower stall.
    A
    For powder post beetles, we would recommend using Boracare. The wood you are applying this product to must be untreated, meaning no sealants. You will use 1 gallon of Boracare with 1 gallon of hot water. You can either spray the wood or paint it on. Once the product is dry, you can apply any type of sealants to the wood.

    If a house is showing termite infestation, will Boracare rid my house of termites?
    termites activity has been seen in the house. This is a different house of which my first question was pertaining to.

    Boracare will treat for drywood termites. First, we want to make sure these are drywood termites. Most folks will have a PCO come out and make an ID no charge. Once this termite species has been identified we can make the best recommendation for you.

    Will Bora-Care work on Ipe wood?
    My new Ipe deck has some kind of wood borer. The top is finished with Ipe Oil. The bottom is unfinished. I could spray the underside. The boards are only 3/4" thick, but Ipe is very dense. Do you know of anyone that has tried it on hardwood?

    Bora-Care should be applied only on raw, natural wood with no finishes (stain, paint, sealant, varnish, etc). Bora-Care cannot penetrate into sealed or finished wood. After wood has been treated with Bora-Care, you can paint, stain or seal the wood with no problems. We recommend waiting at least 3 days before sealing (but not longer than 6 weeks). Outdoor wood should be sealed after application of the product.

    Will Boracare application prior to staining be effective for powder post beetles?
    I have cleaned fir siding down to bare wood surface. I am now planning on applying TWP 1500 series stain.

    Yes, you may stain wood that has been treated with BoraCare. You should allow areas treated with BoraCare to dry for 24-48 hours before touching or painting them.

    Does Boracare work on different species of wood boring beetles?
    Does Boracare work on all of the following wood boring beetle species, old world lyctus beetle southern lyctus beetle western lyctus beetle Pacific deathwatch beetle black Polycaon leadcable borer. Also, does the product need to be applied to the area of infestation only, or does one need to apply to surrounding areas to stop any spreading?

    Boracare is labeled for the follwoing types of beetles, Old House Borers, Longhorn Beetles and Ambrosia Beetles, Anobiid and Lyctid Powderpost Beetles.  It is best to apply to the entire piece of wood and surrounding raw wood to treat current infestations and protect from future infestations.

    Can Boracare be applied to stained wood?
    I made a desk and stained it and it is now infested with termites. The wood was only stained and not varnished or sealed can it still be treated?

    Boracare can be applied only to raw wood. Any stain, paint, or seal would have to be completely stripped in order to treat the wood with Boracare. You may drill into the wood to spot treat with a ready-to-use formulation of Boracare called Jecta.

    What termite control product is safe to use around cats?
    I want to spray my 4 outdoor wood decks to protect against termites (house and decks were completely tented in April 2015.
    A

    Bora-Care is a very safe product and it is considered a green product as well.  Typically, it takes about an hour for the surface of the wood to dry.  After application has dried completely, it should be perfectly fine for children and pets to re-enter the house. Please read the BoraCare product label for complete usage instructions.  Boracare does have to be applied to raw, untreated, unpainted wood.

    We have a new Madrone wood butcher block countertop in our kitchen that was OK for two years,
    Then some holes appeared. Now there's a third hole. We did kill one... maybe a false powderpost beetle? Can we take this butcher block top off and treat the unfinished bottom (top has had Linseed oil finish)? Is Boracare toxic enough that we could not use this butcher block top for food preparation after applying the Boracare to the bottom (about 1.5" thick)?

    As long as the top is sealed then you can safely apply Boracare to the underside if unsealed and it will penetrate through the wood.  It would be recommended to allow the butcher block to dry for 24-48 hours before using again. Any food contact surfaces treated with Boracare must have a sealant applied after the Boracare has dried.

    Can BoraCare be used on spraying termites on a live oak tree and will it damage the tree?
    A

    No Bora-Care,  like any other borate product, cannot be used on trees or plants.  It is for cut lumber only.  Borates will kill any living plant, shrub, grass or tree.  Termites do not attack live, healthy trees.  If you have termites in a tree you would need to treat the nest directly by drilling holes into the dead parts of the tree where the colony is infested.  This can be done with something like Dominion 2L.  Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Dominion or or Termidor would be the best product to use for that.  Termidor is the top product and can last 10 years in the soil, whereas Dominion will only last 5-7 years.  It is only labeled to be used adjacent to the structure, though.

    Would we benefit from using Boracare on the T-1-11 for our ceiling of a wraparound porch?
    Before we stain, also we have old barn beams we will use in our new home that have little pinpoint holes, worried about bugs. Should we use this on them before we finish them?? Thanks

    Any untreated or unstained wood, including plywood, would benefit from an application of Boracare to help protect it from wood infesting pests, fungi and dry rot.  If you do have an active infestation of pests in the wood Boracare would be the best treatment for that as well before you stain. When treating wood that may be exposed to rainfall, be sure to apply a water sealant after the Boracare application has dried.

    Can you spray Borac-care inside existing walls? Will it effect the insulation in the walls?
    I found a termite colony inside my wall up at the top near ceiling. They are visible on one side of the wall that is painted but not a trace on the side that is not painted. Visible meaning that there are small holes and I can see movement of little white crawlers inside the holes. Also, some winged ones came out of holes. There is insulation inside of the walls. Should I drill holes in walls and spray this stuff inside the walls. Or should I use something else for for this purpose. I bought termite killer from local home improvement store because it was like late evening when the bugs started flying around and in a panic it was the quick fix. I seems to have killed the small white crawlers and the winged critters but now days later, I have these bigger brown ones coming out the holes, only three but still. I don't know if more are in there and I want them gone. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Boracare should only be applied directly to wood. We would recommend using something like Termidor Foam in the wall voids. This product will be injected at the studs of the wall. Termidor Foam is a non-repellent so the termites do not know they are coming in contact with it. You can drill holes in the stud every 10-12 inches apart. This product has a residual of 3 months.

    Can Boracare be used on fruit trees?
    A

    Boracare cannot be used to treat fruit or any other types of trees, as it would kill any type of plant life.  If you can give us more information about what kind of pest you need to treat, we will be happy to recommend a different product for your needs.

    How do we get rid of termites in a termite infested couch?
    A

    For furniture your options are limited for treatment. If the wood is in its all natural raw state without any stains or finishes on it you can use a product like Boracare. Boracare will absorb all the way into the wood and eliminate any infestation that is there and last for the life of the wood. It does not stain the wood or leave behind any visible residue, but becomes one with the wood and any insect that ingests it dies. If the furniture has a finish on it, you would either have to drill holes throughout it and inject something like the Boracare or a foam, or the option most go with, hire a company to fumigate it

    Is Bora-Care safe to use on a laminated beam?
    My laminated beam has dry rot. I want to make sure that the Boracare will not melt the glue that holds the wood together in the laminated beam

    Bora-Care should only be applied to raw wood in its natural form only for proper penetration. If there is a laminated coating on the beam the product will not be absorbed properly.
