    Q
Are BTI Mosquito Dunks safe to use in pools?
I set up a small pool for my children in the summer. Are these safe to put in the pool with them - specifically if they accidentally drink some of the water or get it in their eyes?
    A
According to Summit Chemical the manufacturer of the Mosquito Dunks, you can use the dunks directly in wading pools and they will not harm your children. These dunks will float on top of the water for several weeks so we would suggest that you take the dunks out of the pool while the children are in the water so they will not play with them.

    Q
Can I use BTI Mosquito dunks to control mosquitos in French drains?
I have a bad mosquito problem which I think is coming from my French drain system underneath my backyard concrete patio. There are 6 inlets, and it really seems that the problem is coming from the inlets. I have sprayed the rest of the areas with backyard control products that is supposed to last for a few months, and also have a mosquito misting system. The only pesky area is righty at our feet and it drives us crazy! I've used a little bleach in the drain inlets because someone told me that would help... Only worked for a few hours. The drains are those black plastic ribbed type and I'm pretty sure they nearly always have a little standing water in them due to the ribs. What's the best solution? Would crushed up BTI donuts work if I poured a few gallons of water after insertion to have it spread out down the pipes?
    A

BTI Mosquito Dunks will be a great choice to apply in french drains for mosquitos. We recommend using Bifen IT and Pivot 10 on the exterior of the home as well as other non-chemical methods for eradication. I have included some great articles below that you might find extremely helpful!

    Q
I am having a problem with terminology of the BTI Mosquito Dunks.
The website refers to Mosquito Dunks. The product is sold in pack of 20. Each briquet will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water. I worked out that a pack holds 20 dunks but what is a briquet? I know what it is in French but I doubt that applies here!
    A
A briquet is a small brick of compressed coal, sawdust, etc. In this case, it is a small brick of Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis solids, spores and insecticidal toxins. It is just another name for the individual BTI Mosquito Dunks. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by Noel from Laramie Wy

    Q
Will the active ingredient in Bti Briquets migrate from a pond to the underground ground water?
If so, then it could contaminate a water well in close proximity to the pond?
    A
The BTI Briquets/dunks will not normally migrate anywhere it will simply slowly breakdown until gone in standing water areas where you dont want pest reproduction to occur. If any of the product did get into the water table somehow it would not be a problem as this product does not harm us and can be used in drinking troughs for animals, in ponds with fish being caught for consumption, and in rain barrels where the water is used to water vegetables.
