This insect control product is intended for control of worms (caterpillars) and other listed insects. This product does not significantly impact predatory beneficial insects, predatory mites, and spiders while controlling target pests. Susceptible insect pests may be observed on plants up to several hours after treatment, but will have ceased active feeding before being killed.

Add the required amount of this product to the specified amount of water, mix thoroughly, and apply uniformly to both upper and lower surfaces of plant foliage. Mix only as much spray as needed for a single treatment. In vegetable gardens, for best results, do not use more than 3 gallons of spray for 1000 sq ft of area. Excellent organic control

    By Linda on 09/24/2012

    Verified Purchase

I was having a recurrent yearly problem with whitefly, spider mites and leaf miners in my Savannah GA autumn vegetable garden. The eggplant, tomatoes and bell peppers were most affected. Capt Jack's Deadbug Brew Concentrate, containing Spinosad is an excellent control. I found that adding 4 tbsp Capt Jack's and 2 cups of milk to a gallon jug, filling it with water then spraying the entire plant with this mixture controlled the pests AND the fungal/mildew problems that are normal in humid deep south gardens. Happy Harvesting!

Q
I am looking for a general treatment for spiders and other normal household bugs that I can spray once a month.

I just purchased a new home and do not want to have hire a pest control company to spray monthly. I live in Arizona where we have a tendency for scorpions, spiders, black widows, ants, etc. What is a good general chemical that I could spray around the outside of the house once a month that would help to prevent pests from entering into the house? I am not sure what the pros use when they spray.

A
Demon WP would be a great choice for all of the pests you mentioned and is one of the top choices for professionals when those hard to kill insects are the target. The only downside to Demon WP is that it could potentially leave a white powdery residue on dark surfaces. If this is a concern for you, another top contender is Cy-Kick CS. You should not solely rely on pesticides to keep insects at bay. You should also do your part by making your property less favorable to spiders and scorpions. Please take a few minutes to read our article Integrated Pest Management to learn more.

Q
Will Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate control pickleworms?

Our winter wasn't very strong and the heat has set in early. I have a bad infestation of pickleworms in my cucumber plants! My local agricultural division of the local college, University of Florida recommended a farm pesticide called Entrust, which has the same active ingredient Spinosad, and said it is OMRI listed, and I am trying to grow as organically as possible. Is this safe to use and popularly effective?

A

Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate is not labeled for pickleworms specifically but it is labeled for worms in general on cucumbers. This is a fairly new product for us so we do not have any feedback on efficacy for pickleworms but you can contact the manufacturer, Bonide, directly to see if they have found their product to be effective for pickleworms. You can reach Bonide at 800-536-8231.

Q
Is Capt Jacks Dead Bug Brew safe to use in a vegetable garden? Pole and bush beans, cauliflower, peas, carrot.

I have 4 raised beds and have had trouble with white flies and afids. Once weakened the bright and fungus sets in.

A
Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew can be used in a vegetable garden on the

listed crops only but is not labeled for whitefly or aphid infestations. Permethrin 10% is not labeled to be sprayed on the types of vegetables you are growing.

Monterey Fruit Tree & Vegetable Systemic would be a better choice as it is labeled for most vegetables and it is labeled to control aphids and whiteflies.

Q
Can I use Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate on rose bushes for aphids in Az where it is 101 today does that make a difference?
A
Captain Jacks is not specifically labeld for use on roses. You  may want to use something like Bayer Advanced 3-in-1 to treat for aphids on roses. The temperature outside will cause an adverse effect, we jsut recommend making your application any other time but the heat of the day, to lessen possible evaporation.

Q
Can I add an IGR to my sprayer with the Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate?

If I can't add an IGR (such as Archer), how long should I wait to lay down the Archer?

A
Yes you could certainly mix the Archer IGR or any other IGR right in with the Deadbug Brew concentrate, or any other insecticide you might use. IGR's are designed to be mixed right along with insecticides to spray at the same time for ease of doing a single application over two. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Q
What to use for worms in peaches?
A
Control is three-pronged. Sprays of dormant oil like HI Yield Dormant Oil, narrow range oil or pesticides formulated with spinosad ( Captian Jacks Deadbug Brew) while the peach trees are in their dormant stage should be followed by sprays in early spring that target the larvae. A spray of spinosad or Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) while the tree is in bloom is effective on young larvae. A second spray of Bt is normally performed within 10 days of the first. Spinosad, Bt or carbaryl may be sprayed after bloom. Follow label directions carefully.
