    Q
Will Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate control pickleworms?
Our winter wasn't very strong and the heat has set in early. I have a bad infestation of pickleworms in my cucumber plants! My local agricultural division of the local college, University of Florida recommended a farm pesticide called Entrust, which has the same active ingredient Spinosad, and said it is OMRI listed, and I am trying to grow as organically as possible. Is this safe to use and popularly effective?
    A

Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate is not labeled for pickleworms specifically but it is labeled for worms in general on cucumbers. This is a fairly new product for us so we do not have any feedback on efficacy for pickleworms but you can contact the manufacturer, Bonide, directly to see if they have found their product to be effective for pickleworms. You can reach Bonide at 800-536-8231.

    Q
What ratio of Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate should I use to drench treat my soil for thrips and preventive mites?
    A

Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate is not labeled for and, therefore, will not be effective as a soil drench. To treat for thrips using Captain Jacks, you will apply the product as a spray to get thorough coverage on the target plants. Captain Jacks should not be used for mite control except certain stages of spider mites only since the active ingredient is only effective for pests that will ingest it. You can view our other miticides here.

    Q
Can I use Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew Concentrate on rose bushes for aphids in Az where it is 101 today does that make a difference?
    A
Captain Jacks is not specifically labeld for use on roses. You  may want to use something like Bayer Advanced 3-in-1 to treat for aphids on roses. The temperature outside will cause an adverse effect, we jsut recommend making your application any other time but the heat of the day, to lessen possible evaporation.

  • Asked by James from Julian, Ca
    05/22/2015
    Q
Is Captain Jack's Deadbug concentrate effective against fungus gnats?
If yes, what is the dilution rate?
    A
The Captain Jack's Deadbug Conventrate is not specifically labeled to control fungus gnats, however it could potentially work for them at the same rate as the usage for fruit flies an other similar pest on the label of 2oz per gallon. Fungus gnats are primarily a problem caused by overwatering of your plants. You can eliminate your fungus gnat problem by drying out the soil of your plants for several days since they cannot thrive without moisture in the soil. If you are not having the problem with fungus gnats on any plants that are edibles, you could do a soil drench around the plant with a product like Talstar P used at the rate of 0.5-1oz per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Scott from Boston

    Q
If Captain Jacks freezes once, is it useless?
    A

We always recommend storing concentrates such as Captain Jacks Deadbug Brew in temperate environments where the product will not freeze. If the product has frozen once but it still has the same appearance and consistency and goes into solution, then it should still work. However, if the product is at all discolored, clumpy, or does not go into solution, then we recommend replacing the product.
