    Q
How many sq. ft. does a 1.25 oz. bottle of Certainty herbicide cover? .
I am trying to get rid of kyllinga weeds in my centipede lawn and need to know how much coverage I will get with this 1.5 oz bottle of Certainty herbicide.
    A
One bottle can treat from 10,000 square feet to over 35,000 square feet depending on the weed and grass you are treating. For the selective control of Kyllinga use 1.25 ounces per acre on Centipede lawns. The amount of water you use will vary as the water acts as the carrier. On average with herbicides you will use 2-3 gallons of water per 1000 sq/ft to give sufficient coverage.

  • Asked by Jay from Loganville, Ga.

    Q
Can I apply Atrazine while the zoysia / centipede grass is dormant?
I am considering Atrazine to kill or at least control the poa annua. I have a zoysia lawn, however, I have had some centipede creep in over the years mixing with the zoysia. Once it is out of dormancy, can it be applied then as well? I have tried the expensive pre-emergents but they seem to be a waste of time and money.
    A

We cannot recommend that you use any Atrazine product on your zoysiagrass since it will not be labeled as safe to use on this type of grass. A better choice woud be something like Certainty Herbicide which is labeled for post-emergent control of poa annua in both zoysia and centipede grasses. If you are having trouble with pre-emergent control of this weed, then you may need to adjust the timing of your application and/or consider rotating the active ingredient you are using.

    Q
Does Certainty kill Kentucky blue grass?
Will it kill grassy weeds withot harming KBG?
    A
Certainty is not labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass. We do carry several herbicides such as SpeedZone Lawn Weed Killer Concentrate and Tenacity Herbicide which are labeled for use on Kentucky bluegrass. We strongly recommend that you read over the product label of the product you choose (product label link will be under the picture of the product on each individual product page) to make sure you can use the product on Kentucky Bluegrass and to make sure the weeds you are trying to eliminate are listed. You can search Kentucky Bluegrass on our online store to see other products that may meet your needs.

  • Asked by Dustin from Clinton, Ms
    02/25/2018
    Q
Can Certainty, Drive and Celsius all be mixed together in one sprayer?
    A

Certainty, Drive and Celsius should not all be tank mixed together and there would be no valid reason to do so.  They are all post emergents herbicides and applying too much can stress and harm your lawn as well as the weeds and make none of them very effective. They are all labeled for most of the same weeds, so one would be good to use alone.

    Q
Can Certainty be tank mixed with prodiamine?
I applied an application of prodiamine in early march (NC) on my zoysia. I had some poa come through in some spots and would like to kill it and further prevent anything else coming up. If they can be tank mixed, how long should i wait to water in the prodiamine?
    A

While Certainty and Prodiamine can be mixed together with no issue, Prodiamin is only going to prevent spring germinating weeds from coming up and only if you are getting it down prior to soil temperatures reaching 50-55 degrees as that is when seeds germinate. Also, poa annua is a fall germinating weed so a spring application will not prevent anymore of it coming up. You would need to use something like the Prodiamine in the fall around Sept-Oct 15th to effectively prevent it the next year.

    Q
Will Certainty Herbicide kill virginia buttonweed?
    A

Certainty Herbicide is labeled for suppression of virginia button weed. Per the product label: For suppression of buttonweed apply this product at the rate of 1.25 ounces per acre. This application will provide suppression or control of buttonweed for 4-6 weeks. To ensure control, tank mix with a broadleaf herbicide labeled for control of virginia buttonweed.

Another product we carry that will control virginia buttonweed is Fertilome Weed Free Zone. Apply the weed free zone at the rate of 1.5 oz - 2 oz. per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft

  • Asked by Andy from Phoenix, Arizona

    Q
Will Certainty Herbicide also kill spurge in a Bermuda lawn?
Will it kill splurge and how long do I have to spray before overseeding my bermuda lawn with perennial rye?
    A

Unfortunately, Certainty Herbicide is not labeled for spurge. We would recommend a product like Monterey Spurge Power, as it is labeled to be used in a Bermuda lawn. You would not want to do any seeding any sooner than 3-4 weeks after application of this product.

    Q
Will Certainty kill Chamberbitter without harming St. Augustine?
I live in East Texas. These things look like miniature Mimosa trees, and they are very prolific. They are apparently quite hardy, Sedge Hammer won't kill them.
    A
We recently started carrying herbicides due to customer request, but they are not yet our specialty.  We would like to refer you to the manufacturer since they are the experts on their Certainty product.  The manufacturer is Monsanto and you can reach them at (800) 332-3111. You can also contact your local cooperative extension office and request advice from the local master gardener who is well versed on the plant life in your region.
