    Q
I am applying Certainty Herbicides and the instructions indicate I need Non-ionic surfactant. What would be an example of that?
I will be applying this to my bluegrass lawn.
    A
We offer DyneAmic Surfactant on our website. DyneAmic is a high quality non-ionic surfactant that greatly enhances the effectiveness of Certainty and other herbicides and fungicides on lawns, ornamentals, trees and landscape areas. The surfactant helps penetrate the natural waxy tissue of plants.

    Q
    Controlling quackgrass in Kentucky Bluegrass
The Michigan State University extension website says "If your lawn is primarily Kentucky bluegrass, there is a selective herbicide that will remove the quackgrass without killing the rest of your lawn. This product is only available to professional lawn care operators, and they need to make two applications on a 14-day interval. The name of the product is Certainty." However, your Q&A section includes an answer that says Certainty is not "labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass." Can you clarify the apparent disconnect?
    A
Since we do not make this product we have to go by what the manufacturer supplies us with. Kentucky Bluegrass is not on the label so we have to assume it cannot be used on that type of grass. However, here is Monsanto's telephone number 800-332-3111. We recommend contacting Monsanto and speaking with the customer service agent there to verify if this product is safe for kentucky Bluegrass.

    Q
How long after application of Certainty does it take for poa trivialis to die?
We applied Certainty to our entire yard yesterday to kill off the poa trivialis. What typically happens, does it turn a color as it is dying?
    A

You may notice signs of the poa trivialis dying (discoloration-yellowing or browning) within 2-3 weeks after you have applied Certainty but it is normal not to see anything for at least a month. Per the product label, you can make an additional application 4 or more weeks after the initial application as needed. Best results are obtained when target weeds are actively growing & not disturbed by mowing for at least 2 days before and 2 days after application. Warm, moist conditions following application will accelerate activity; cold, dry conditions will delay activity. Drought stressed weeds are less susceptible.

    Q
What is the Certainty mixing instructions per 1 gallon or 2 gallon of water?
Most of the mixing instructions you have provided to customers here say X number of small or large scoops per gallon. When clearly the directions state per 2 gallons vol of water. Please explain. I don't want to be putting the product out too week of course :)
    A

The small scoop for Certainty is .16grams and the large .8grams. Depending on what you are treating for and what type of turf you are treating for would make the difference in how many scoops you would use per gallon water. On page 2 of the Product label you will find the mix chart.

    Q
How long does it take to see results after applying Certainty?
    A

When treating with Certainty Herbicide it can take time to see results based on the weather. Per the product label:  Time to Symptoms: This product is absorbed by both the roots and the foliage of plants and rapidly inhibits the growth of susceptible weeds. Susceptible weed growth stops within 24 hours of treatment even though visual symptoms are slow to develop. Susceptible weeds usually show yellowing or browning within 2 to 3 weeks. Warm, moist conditions following application will accelerate herbicidal activity. Cold, dry conditions will delay herbicidal activity. Weeds stressed by drought are less susceptible to this product.

    Q
How do I kill tall fescue in a KBG lawn?
I thought I was going to be able to use Certainty to kill the tall fescue in my KBG lawn until I read the note on the label change after 2011. What is the right product to use now?
    A
We do not carry a product that will take fescue out of kentucky blue grass.  Unfortunately they are so closely related that you cannot selectively remove it with any product that we are aware of.  Your best option in this scenario is to kill the fescue with a Ranger Pro (glyphosate) product and then re-seed with your KBG.

    Q
Will Certainty Herbicide kill oxalis and dandelion in dwarf mondo grass?
    A

Certainty Herbicide is safe for mondo grass, but it is not labeled for oxalis. We would recommend a product like Monterey Weed Whacker, which is labeled for both oxalis and dandelion, and is safe to apply to established mondo grass.

    Q
How do I dilute Certainty Herbicide to treat dallisgrass?
Or could you tell me How many gallons of water with one bottle of Certainty mix for? Spraying for Dallisgrass in the fall.
    A

Per the Certainty Herbicide product label for dallisgrass suppression, you would use 1.25 oz per acre.  This would be mixed in 10-50 gallons per acre. The amount of water you use will vary as the water acts as the carrier.  For smaller areas, you would use 5 small (or 1 large) scoop per 2 gallons of water to cover 1000 sq ft.  At this rate one bottle will cover one acre.  Please refer to the product label for complete instructions for treatment and tank mixing recommendations.
