The main difference between Merit 75 WSP and Criterion 0.5 G Insecticide is the name. They both contain the same active ingredient in the same percentage but are made by different companies. They both work the same way. Criterion is a lower cost alternative to Merit.
Criterion 0.5 G Insecticide is granule that is applied with a spreader. The rate is 1.4 to 1.8 lbs per 1000 sq. f.t when used on ornamental shrubs and trees, as directed on the product label.
According to the product label, "The active ingredient in Criterion 0.5 G Insecticide has sufficient residual activity so that the applications can be made preceding the egg laying activity of the target pests. High levels of control can be achieved when applications are made proceeding or during the egg laying period. The need for an application can be based on historical monitoring of the site, previous records or experiences, current season adult trapping or other methods. Optimum control will be achieved when applications are made prior to egg hatch of the target pest, followed by sufficient irrigation or rainfall to move the active ingredient through the thatch." For the best timing on when to apply this product, we would recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office as they will have information on the best timing for your specific region. In most cases, adult emergence occurs in early summer, often after significant rainfall or irrigation, followed by mating and egg laying. This usually continues for four to six weeks. Under normal circumstances, Criterion 0.5 G Insecticide can provide residual white grub control for four months or longer in turf.
The Criterion 0.5 G Insectide granules may be sticky if they are not watered in thoroughly enough. This same thing could happen with any insecticide granules that may be placed on wet turf or not irrigated with enough water. It is best to use at least 0.25 inch of water to thoroughly release and distribute most insecticide granules. Be sure to store extra product in a dry area.
Yes, Criterion 0.5 G Insecticide has the same active ingredient as Merit 0.5G Granules. They are used the same way and can be applied to lawns and around ornamentals.
