    Q
    Crossbow near vegetable garden
I accidentally spayed Crossbow along two sides of my vegetable garden. Garden is about 16 ft. wide. I was standing between tomato plants, onions, potatoes etc., holding a large piece of cardboard as a shield for the plants. There was minimal wind, approximately 80 degrees f. I was spraying low to the ground so I'm sure no mist or spray reached the plants or root zone. After realizing my mistake at approximately 2 hours I heavily watered the garden with overhead sprinklers. After 8 days the tomato plants appear undamaged, the growing tips appear normal with no wilting. The Crossbow is approximately 10 years old and kept in unheated shed. Have I ruined my veggies? Those further from edge (5 ft.) OK?
    A

Crossbow Herbicide applications should be kept at least 15 feet from edibles. Per the label, do not apply under circumstances where spray drift may occur to food, forage, or other plantings that might be damaged or crops thereof rendered unfit for sale, use or consumption.  You should discard any edibles that may have been contaminated. You will need to wait at least 1 year after application to plant any edibles intended for human consumption. That being said, generally, the shelf life of Crossbow Herbicide is 3-5 years if stored in a area that does not allow the product to freeze or reach over 80 degrees. We would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly at 901-761-0050 for further information on how you should proceed since the product was used off label.

    Q
    Crossbow near vegetable garden
I accidentally sprayed weeds near my vegetable garden with Crossbow, probably 10 years old, 2 oz. gallon mix. There was minimal wind, about 80 degrees. Thought it was Roundup, label had fallen off. I was holding a large piece of cardboard at my feet and spraying low to ground. The spray was applied outside the vegetable plant root zone as I was standing between the plants and the cardboard. I can see no sign of leaf damage on the tomato plants after approximately three days (canary in the mine)? I watered the garden heavily with overhead sprinklers two hours after my mistake. Will the veggies be safe to consume if I wait awhile longer and see no damage?
    A
Helena Crossbow Herbicide is not labeled to be applied on anything edibles so we cannot comment on if it would be safe to consume vegetables from plants thar were close the treatment area.  We would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly. You can reach Helena Chemical at 901-761-0050.

    Q
I have a BlackBerry growing out of my septic tank, can I use crossbow on it?
    A
Helena Crossbow Herbicide cannot be used in septic systems or in or around any body of water. We are unsure if spraying the product on the foliage of the plant above ground directly would cause any issues with the tank. We do carry a product called Hi Yield Root Killer that is made for killing the roots of plants that have infiltrated the lines of the septic system, and may work to help eliminate the blackberry bush you have. We would recommend speaking to someone locally perhaps to see if there are any products the city uses currently for situations like this.

    Q
Can I inject Crossbow into berry vines without damaging hydrangeas and rhododendrons in same area?
    A

Helena Crossbow Herbicide would harm your hydrangeas, rhododentrons and other desirable ornamentals, flowers or plants if they were directly sprayed or contacted through spray drift. If the berry vines you wish to treat DO NOT have direct contact with the hydrangeas or rhododentrons and are NOT within the drip line of the desriable ornamentals, direct injection treatments to the vines should be fine.

As advised per the product label, “Do not apply Crossbow* directly to, or otherwise permit it to come into direct contact with cotton, grapes, tobacco, vegetable crops, citrus, flowers, fruit or ornamental trees, or other desirable broadleaf plants and do not permit spray mists containing it to drift onto them.

Can I mix and apply Thuricide and Crossbow at the same time?
I would like to apply thuricide and crossbow in the same spray mix. Will I reduce the effectiveness of either by doing this?

    Q
I am looking for a herbicide that I can spray over my iron clad cow peas that will kill pigweed.
I think thunder herbicide would work but is very expensive.
    A

Pigweed can be difficult to treat around edible crops. Products that contain glyphosate such as RoundUp can be used to spot treat actively growing weeds. For more products that can be applied as an over spray or those resistant pigweed varieties, we recommend contacting your local Master Gardener for additional recommendations. Please let us know if they suggest a product that you cannot locate on our website and we will make an effort to locate the product for you.
