Granular algaecide works great to kill algae beneath the water. I use it around the edge where algae usually forms first in my pond. I apply when I see algae first beginning to grow.

I spread this by hand about like you would broadcast fertilizer and it worked really well. I had a lot of chara in my pond and 3 days after applying it, gone! It's been a couple weeks now and still nothing growing back. I bought 4 bags so I can get it at an early stage so there won't be as much decomposing in the water.

After reviewing all possible algaecides (about 30 brands) I decided on Cutrine as the least noxious for use in lakes also used for drinking water, recreation, fishing etc. Applied according to instructions on a minimal area of thick hydrilla around 155 sq ft. After two weeks there does not appear to be any difference.

I have been using this product for five years to treat algae build up on HarTru tennis courts. I decided to try it and mix in w/the HarTru material and the results have been amazing. Better than any topical spray treatment.
