These paks do not have an expiration date and do not deteriorate. The product label says to replace the paks every 3 - 4 months from date of purchase.

    Q
Have Silverfish from attic to basement, and have 5 cats. What to use?

Have boxes of paper files. Need help.

    A
Please review our Silverfish Control page. We recommend since you have cats to use a product like Suspend SC. Suspend SC leaves a clear residual on surfaces that keeps on killing pests for up to 3 months. You can use this product indoors along cracks and crevices and outdoors 2-3 feet up and out all the way around the perimeter of the structure. This product is safe for people and pets to be around after it has dried. For your attic, a lot of folks like to use the Dekko Silverfish Traps.

    Q
Can I use the Dekko Silverfish Packs under and on the sides of a built-in dishwasher?

That's where I get silverfish. It's built-in but as you know, there's space around the sides and the flap on the bottom is easy to push through.

    A

Dekko Silverfish Packs can be placed in closets, drawers, bookcases, in basement and dark hidden places inaccessible to children and pets. The Dekko Silverfish Packs can be used under and the sides of the dishwasher as long as the label instructions are followed and there are no moisture issues under the dishwasher.

    Q
Will silverfish eat drywall paper and tape?

I have one wall in the bedroom between a corner and a window that the tape joints have deteriorated and when I chipped at them with my finger a silverfish came out. What happens to the silverfish after they eat the Dekko Silverfish pack?

    A
Silverfish are known to eat the adhesive that is used on tape and on the drywall paper. The Dekko Silverfish Packs are formulated with the active ingredient boric acid. While Dekko is safe to use around people and pets, it is deadly to insects and soon after the silverfish ingest the boric acid they will die.

    Q
Do the Dekko Silverfish Packs work for firebrats?
    A
Although the Dekko Silverfish Packs are labeled for firebrats, typically a spray will work better for firebrats than a bait.  We would recommend treating with Cy-Kick aerosol because it is safe to use around children and pets, yet still very effective.  It leaves a residual so it will kill long after it dries.  Direct the spray underneath and behind appliances and in cracks and crevices like baseboards and where pipes go into the wall underneath sinks and behind toilets.

    Q
My dog chewed on a Dekko Silverfish Pack, what should i do?
    A

Any time a pet eats any type of insecticide you should contact your veterinarian. Be sure to have the product label ready as the veterinarian will need to know what ingredients were ingested by your pet. We always have all of the product labels available on our site for your convenience. Boric Acid, the active ingredient in the Dekko silverfish paks,  has a low acute toxicity. Small amounts e.g., a teaspoon) swallowed accidentally are not likely to cause effects but you should still check with your vet.

    A

Each box of Dekko Silverfish Packs has 24 packs inside. You will place two to three packs in each infested area you are trying to control (do not open the packs). This includes areas such as Closets, Basements, Drawers, Bookcases, Garages, Attics and other places.

    Q
I see a lot of silverfish in my bathroom?

Now after reading the reviews, I realize that I have very old wallpaper in my bathroom, so this means that the silverfish are feeding it. Should I remove all the wallpaper?

    A
Silverfish normally live outdoors under rocks, bark, and leaves. When silverfish are found indoors, they prefer moist places such as basements, bathtubs, laundry rooms, sinks and kitchens. However, they may also be found near food sources including book shelves, behind baseboards and wallpaper, and around window and door frames. We recommend treating your home with our Get Rid of Silverfish Kit. We cannot tell you to remove the wallpaper nor can we tell you to keep it. We can only give pest control advice and product recommendations. They will eat the wallpaper glue and they do eat paper. If it is heavily damaged it can be removed.

    Q
Can booklice infest/travel when moving? My belongings are in plastic storage bins and am moving from FL to MD.

I recently discovered a booklice infestation in the first floor kitchen of my 2 story townhouse. They were along the oven wall, on the counters, and crawling on the floor coming from the oven. I vaccummed, wiped away any mositure/spills, and all food is kept in airtight containers. I had a small incident 2 years ago and took care of it with some dehumidifiers and have been keeping an eye out ever since. They seemed to have infested overnight. I've seen maybe 100 in two days. Ive also seen a few in my upstairs bathtub where I always use the exhaust fan to remove moisture. Are they affected by season/weather? I havent seen any all summer and now they're appearing in September? I'm scared to bring them with me when I move to Maryland. I've checked my plastic storage totes and have only found a few dead ones, none alive, and they were from kitchen items I had packed from downstairs in the kitchen. I do live in FL so it's always humid, but we use central a/c. Any information/help would be appreciated. I know all homes have booklice to a degree but I dont want to bring an infestation into my new home.

    A

It sounds like you are dealing with silverfish rather than booklice. Booklice (psocids) are very small and would not usually be found in areas like you are describing. We have an identification guide here so you can see what silverfish look like. These insects are often found in moist areas and also stored paper goods like files, plus they can often seem like a large population appears overnight. A great product to use for silverfish in stored boxes, closets, etc. are Dekko Silverfish Paks. If you wanted to use something for just about any pest in storage totes or bags, then you could use NuVan ProStrips. You can also use a residual insecticide such as Bifen IT to treat cracks and crevices in the new home before moving everything in to help prevent these and other common insects from infesting your home. If you have photos of the insects you are finding, then we are happy to take a look. You can send them to us at [email protected].
