Any time a pet eats any type of insecticide you should contact your veterinarian. Be sure to have the product label ready as the veterinarian will need to know what ingredients were ingested by your pet. We always have all of the product labels available on our site for your convenience. Boric Acid, the active ingredient in the Dekko silverfish paks, has a low acute toxicity. Small amounts e.g., a teaspoon) swallowed accidentally are not likely to cause effects but you should still check with your vet.
Dekko Silverfish packs will remain effective indefinitely. When you take the packs out of the box to use in your home, they are good for 3 to 4 months or less depending on the level of infestation and how quickly they are eaten into. They should be replaced every 3 to 4 months whether they looked used or not.
You can simply throw the used Dekko Packs into the trash. No special disposal is required.
Yes, the Dekko Silverfish Packs do not release or emit any type of chemical into the air or the surrounding area, so it is perfectly safe to place these in any drawer or cabinet, even if there are food dishes in the area. You would just want to make sure that the pack was placed in the corner of the cabinet, and didn't have a chance of somehow falling in any food that was going to be eaten.
We apologize that you are not seeing the results expected. It could take up to 4 weeks for the Dekko Silverfish Packs to work as intended. They can be used inside of losets, drawers, bookcases, basements, garages and other dark hidden places. Don’t open or crush individual packages. Silverfish show up most often in dark, dry areas. Place 2 or 3 packs in each infested area or location where silverfish might show up. In addition to drawers, closets, bookcases, basements and garages, use these packs in the attic and under the house. They will solve your silverfish problems quickly. If you don’t have the critters – and most folks do but don’t know it until the numbers get really large – Dekko Silverfish Packs will insure you don’t get the problem. An ounce or 2 of prevention is worth many pounds of aggravation.
Yes, the Dekko Silverfish Packs will attract silverfish. Once you have taken care of the issue, we would recommend discarding the packs that are out and keeping the additional packets in a secure location.
It sounds like you are dealing with silverfish rather than booklice. Booklice (psocids) are very small and would not usually be found in areas like you are describing. We have an identification guide here so you can see what silverfish look like. These insects are often found in moist areas and also stored paper goods like files, plus they can often seem like a large population appears overnight. A great product to use for silverfish in stored boxes, closets, etc. are Dekko Silverfish Paks. If you wanted to use something for just about any pest in storage totes or bags, then you could use NuVan ProStrips. You can also use a residual insecticide such as Bifen IT to treat cracks and crevices in the new home before moving everything in to help prevent these and other common insects from infesting your home. If you have photos of the insects you are finding, then we are happy to take a look. You can send them to us at email@example.com.
