    Q
Will I need to remove paper insulation in my attic in order to rid silverfish in my bathroom?
I have doubled my attic insulation with paper insulation. Should I remove it and if not, what do you suggest I use?
    A

No, you do not need to remove insulation in the attic when using the Dekko Silverfish Packs. Silverfish eat paper and glue with great gusto! Dekko Silverfish Paks attacks them by infusing the boric acid, paper pack and glue with an attractant that is irresistible to the critters and kills them quickly once consumed. Unlike powders, Dekko Silverfish Paks are clean, won't leave residue on your hands, or in locations where they are placed. In the case of severe infestation, complete control may take from 3 days to 4 weeks depending upon conditions.

    Q
I know silverfish are nocturnal, but if I've come across a live one during the day does that indicate a bigger problem than I think it is?
It's only happened twice and only one silverfish at a time.
    A

Silverfish are mainly active at night, but seeing a single silverfish during the day occasionally is not necessarily an indication of a large infestation.  Place 2-3 Dekko Silverfish Packs in any areas where you notice activity.

    Q
Can Dekko Silverfish Packs be used in suitcases? Can they be in contact with clothing?
We found a silver fish in a suitcase while traveling. We're concerned some may be in our suitcases containing clothing. Can we put a silverfish pak in a suitcase with clothing in it? We're concerned the paks may harm our clothes.
    A

Dekko Silverfish Packs should not pose any risk to clothing or other stored items, but we would not recommend using them while traveling. We would recommend vacuuming your suitcases before traveling, and then you could use a Dekko Pack in each suitcase while it is stored in the home.

    Q
Can booklice infest/travel when moving? My belongings are in plastic storage bins and am moving from FL to MD.
I recently discovered a booklice infestation in the first floor kitchen of my 2 story townhouse. They were along the oven wall, on the counters, and crawling on the floor coming from the oven. I vaccummed, wiped away any mositure/spills, and all food is kept in airtight containers. I had a small incident 2 years ago and took care of it with some dehumidifiers and have been keeping an eye out ever since. They seemed to have infested overnight. I've seen maybe 100 in two days. Ive also seen a few in my upstairs bathtub where I always use the exhaust fan to remove moisture. Are they affected by season/weather? I havent seen any all summer and now they're appearing in September? I'm scared to bring them with me when I move to Maryland. I've checked my plastic storage totes and have only found a few dead ones, none alive, and they were from kitchen items I had packed from downstairs in the kitchen. I do live in FL so it's always humid, but we use central a/c. Any information/help would be appreciated. I know all homes have booklice to a degree but I dont want to bring an infestation into my new home.
    A

It sounds like you are dealing with silverfish rather than booklice. Booklice (psocids) are very small and would not usually be found in areas like you are describing. We have an identification guide here so you can see what silverfish look like. These insects are often found in moist areas and also stored paper goods like files, plus they can often seem like a large population appears overnight. A great product to use for silverfish in stored boxes, closets, etc. are Dekko Silverfish Paks. If you wanted to use something for just about any pest in storage totes or bags, then you could use NuVan ProStrips. You can also use a residual insecticide such as Bifen IT to treat cracks and crevices in the new home before moving everything in to help prevent these and other common insects from infesting your home. If you have photos of the insects you are finding, then we are happy to take a look. You can send them to us at support@domyown.com.

    Q
Can I use the Dekko Silverfish Packs under and on the sides of a built-in dishwasher?
That's where I get silverfish. It's built-in but as you know, there's space around the sides and the flap on the bottom is easy to push through.
    A

Dekko Silverfish Packs can be placed in closets, drawers, bookcases, in basement and dark hidden places inaccessible to children and pets. The Dekko Silverfish Packs can be used under and the sides of the dishwasher as long as the label instructions are followed and there are no moisture issues under the dishwasher.

    Dekko Silverfish Packs questions
I have a warehouse with stored files in boxes that are taped, I saw in the video that they put Dekko on the shelves. How will that affect the silverfish, when there in boxes?

Dekko Silverfish Packs can be placed in Closets, Basements, Drawers, Bookcases, Garages, Attics and other places. Silverfish simply eat through the pack and ingest the poision inside. Place two to three packs in each infested area you are trying to control. Silverfish may take several days to a few weeks to control, depending on conditions

    Q
What can I use for musical instrument storage to treat silverfish and carpet beetles?
What is the best remedy to put in storage lockers with musical instruments to discourage bug contamination and destruction of pads?
    A

You can use Dekko Silverfish Paks in storage areas, which are specific to the silverfish and firebrats. These have a simple bait and last up to 4 months. Another option for enclosed storage areas, depending on the size, is to use a residual spray (apply before anything is stored in the area), and/or to use Nuvan Prostrips in each area. A great spray to use would be CyKick Aerosol. You would use the crack and crevice straw to treat along the corners and edges of storage areas. Nuvan ProStrips are insecticide strips that release a small amount of insecticide slowly over time. Each strip treats up 100-200 cubic feet, or any enclosed area up to that size, for 4 months.

  • Asked by Ed from Bay Area

    Q
What else can I use besides Dekko Silverfish Packs?
We've been using the Dekko packs in our house, with mixed results. The packs are on the floor, but a lot of times the silverfish are appearing on the ceiling. We also often see them in the garage. Any suggestions on how to treat this? Thanks!
    A

We apologize that you are not seeing the results expected with the Dekko Silverfish Packs. It could take up to 4 weeks for the Dekko Silverfish Packs to work as intended. They can be used inside of closets, drawers, bookcases, basements, garages and other dark hidden places. Silverfish show up most often in dark, dry areas. Place 2 or 3 packs in each infested area or location where silverfish might show up; in the attic and under the house, they will solve your silverfish problems quickly. In addition to the Dekko Silverfish Packs, we also suggest you use a liquid insecticide like Bifen IT to spray both the inside and outside of your house where the Dekko Silverfish Packs cannot be placed, such as your ceiling. Bifen IT can be sprayed onto and into the shakes to provide some relief from the silverfish. Be sure to use the highest usage rate of 1 oz of Bifen IT per gallon of water for the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. You will need to reapply once a month to keep up the barrier.
