    Q
How far will Delta Dust Insecticide travel before settling once airborne?
    A

How far an insecticide dust such as Delta Dust may drift before settling will depend on several factors such as what kind of duster is used to apply it, the humidity in the area, and any air movement in the space where it is applied. If you would like to share more about where you are treating, the target pest, and what kind of duster you are using, then we can better assist you. Keep in mind that Delta Dust is for use only in cracks and crevices and interior voids, not for use in open living spaces or outdoors.

Ironically, a faulty air purifier being used to help filter Delta Dust has sprayed the dust all over the house. We are attempting to purchase an AC filter with a high enough MERV rating to filter it but are unsure of size or if it can be done.

    Q
Is Delta Dust Insecticide a repellent?
I want to use this product in a commercial kitchen setting where often American roaches appear coming from the holes where gas and water lines protrude from the wall. Will applying this product repel roaches in a manor that will work counter productive since it's main ingredient is a synthetic pyrethroid. I really don't want to push roaches out onto a busy kitchen.
    A

Delta Dust is considered a repellent because insects can detect it. This does not mean they are truly repelled from the area they can just choose to avoid it as they know something is there. They must contact the treated area to be effected by the product though Click the link here to be taken to our roach control guide.

    Q
Can Delta/Tempo Dust be applied in a chimney flute to temporarily kill/deter Wasps/Yellow Jackets?
    A

There really are not any products that are labeled for use in a chimney or fireplace. We recommend burning a fire in your fireplace for about 30 minutes as the heat will drive any hibernating insects out. You will want to check the screen to see if there is any finer mesh you can use that will still be safe for air/smoke flow at the top of the chimney.

You can spray an insecticide like Cyzmic CS or Delta Dust Insecticide / Tempo Dust into crevices around the outside of the fireplace and chimney of the home to help reduce the numbers flying around and gaining access. Treating the exterior foundation of the home, around windows, doors, under the eaves along rooflines, overhangs but also to bushes, trees, shrubs, etc where wasps may land or hide will also help.

In the winter when its cold, wasps and hornets cannot move much at all so this would be the ideal time to have the nest manually removed since they would be unable to fly or move quickly.  Spraying monthly to quarterly throughout the main wasp and warm weather seasons will help achieve this.

    Q
What's the safest way to clean up Delta Dust used in to eradicate bee hive in wall?
An exterminator used large amounts of Delta Dust in a wall space to exterminate a large beehive that extended from floor to ceiling between two studs. Now we need to clean out the honey and the hive. The only access is from the interior living space. How should we safely remove/cleanup the Delta Dust and remaining hive/honey without introducing the Delta Dust into the air in the living space or upon interior surfaces.
    A

According to the SDS (safety data sheet) for the Delta Dust in regards to clean up: “Avoid dust formation. Sweep up or vacuum up spillage and collect in suitable container for disposal.” If the dust application is extremely heavy, you may find using a ShopVac is needed as a traditional home vacuum could possibly clog if the application is thick. We recommend wearing a mask to protect against any particles that may fly into the air during cleaning. Wash off any that gets on your skin with soap and water, and toss clothes in a washer when done if chemical drifted on those surfaces.

We reached out to the manufacturer directly for suggestions, and the following information is what they provided. Please see below for best recommendation

    1. Expose the entire area where the dust was applied.
    2. Carefully remove any insulation in the treatment area; if the dust is present on/in the insulation,  lightly spray the contaminated surface of the insulation with water to trap the dust and prevent it from becoming airborne. Using plastic trash bags, bag all contaminated insulation immediately and seal the bags before moving/removing them from the house.
    3. Vacuum the area with a HEPA filter-equipped vacuum. Try to remove as much dust as possible.
    4. Spray a water-diluted soap/detergent solution over the area, including all of the comb. You are trying to trap any residual dust in the treatment area on the structural wood and the comb and keep it from becoming airborne during the comb removal. Do not soak the site or allow the solution to run from the treatment area.
    5. Remove the comb while the site is still wet. Dispose as directed above for the insulation.
    6. Spray the empty treatment site with the water-diluted soap/detergent solution and wipe the space with cloths. Dispose of the cloths in plastic trash bags immediately.
    7. Allow the treatment site to dry thoroughly before re-installing insulation and drywall replacement.

    Q
Can I spray Delta dust on and in the crevices on ceiling lights/smoke detectors?
Carpet beetles are coming down out of our light fixtures, smoke detectors and bathroom fans. Is there a danger to spraying delta dust on/around these items? Is it dangerous to spray in the ceiling crevices because of gravity bringing the dust back down on us?
    A

Yes, Delta Dust Insecticide would be an effective way to treat that area of the wall/ceiling where there is activity. Repeat treatments may be required. Using a B&G Bulb Duster, thoroughly dust the location of the insect activity, the remaining surrounding areas like your light fixtures and smoke detectors, and any entrance points and surrounding areas where you notice activity.
