How Demand CS Works

To understand how Demand CS works you must first know what it is. Demand CS is a microencapsulated water-based formulation offering superior insect control. Compared to older pyrethroid materials that have been used for many years with declining results, it is up to 200 times more active on flies and other animal health pests allowing lower rates. And it’s designed not only to work better, but to work longer. Demand CS controls over 30 insect pests including: Ants, Bees, Carpet Beetles, Centipedes, Cigarette Beetles, Cockroaches, Confused Flour Beetles, Firebrats, Fleas, Ticks, and more.

Demand CS combines an advanced generation pyrethroid with a unique capsule suspension formulation for outstanding protection against numerous perimeter insect pests.

Once the formulation has been applied and dried, lambda-cyhalothrin, the active ingredient, is released from the capsules. Control will occur primarily through direct contact of the insect pest with the capsules, with lambda-cyhalothrin transferring directly from the capsule to the cuticle of the insect. It is also possible for the capsules to be ingested in the case of insect pests which preen themselves such as cockroaches.

Application Instructions

*** Always read product label and directions completely before using ***

Use indoors (crack and crevice only) and/or outdoors. Best applied with a 1 gallon sprayer. Apply to outside foundation and all entry points such as around windows, doors, etc. Always read the label completely before use.

  • 8 oz. bottle yields 10-40 gallons of finished solution for standard application rates.
  • Quart (32 oz.) bottle yields 40-160 gallons of finished solution.

Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios:

  • 0.2 fl. oz. (6mL)/gal. of water – 0.015% -  light infestation, maintenance, general crawling pests
  • 0.4 fl. oz. (12 mL)/gal. of water – 0.03% - moderate infestation
  • 0.8 fl. oz. (24 mL)/gal. of water – 0.06% – clean-out, severe infestations, scorpions, spiders

Watch the video on this page for general use mixing and application instruction using a 1 gallon sprayer.

Use in the Following Areas:

In, on and around buildings and structures for the control of listed pests, including on lawns, ornamental trees and shrubs around residential, institutional, public, commercial, agricultural and industrial buildings; and parks, recreational areas and athletic fields; food handling establishments; livestock/poultry house structures; pet kennels.

Indoors

  • Use as a crack and crevice treatment only. May apply at 21-day intervals. Remove pets or children from treatment area until product is dry.
  • For bed bugs – Use 0.2-0.4 fl. oz./gal. of water. Do not apply to bedding or to mattresses or furniture surfaces where people will be laying or sitting.
  • May be converted to a foam for treatment in structural voids.

Outdoors

  • 1 Gallon of finished solution will generally cover 1,000 square feet when using a hand pump sprayer for spot or perimeter treatments.
  • If using a hose-end sprayer, calibrate to 0.2, 0.4, or 0.8 ounces, and use 1-5 gallons of water per 800-1600 square feet. Higher volume applications will result in better coverage, particularly for mosquito control.
  • For ornamental pests – Use 1.5 – 5 fl. oz (44-148 mL) / 100 gallons of water – May be applied at 7-day intervals if necessary. Use lower dilution rates for more frequent applications or limit to spot treatment. The addition of a spreader sticker may increase application to waxy foliage.
  • When using large tank mixtures, use a buffering agent if necessary to keep pH from 5-7.
  • For lawn and turfgrass pests – Use 3.4-7 mL/1000 square feet or 5-10 fl. oz. / Acre
  • For thatch or subsurface inhabiting pests, use irrigation after application or higher water volumes to carry the active ingredient to the target pests.

    Excellent product

    By Eric on 06/09/2009

    Verified Purchase

We live at the base of the McDowell Mountains in North Scottsdale where crickets, spiders and scorpions are everywhere. I applied Demand CS right before sunset and the following morning it looked like an atomic bomb went off in my yard. Dead crickets, black widow spiders, cockroaches and last but not least the follow evening a slowly dying scorpion in our bedroom that accidentally crossed the wrong path. In nearly three weeks since we applied the product, I have yet to see ONE single cricket, spider, or cockroach. Great product!

    Great stuff!!

    By Lauren on 04/29/2010

    Verified Purchase

We own a log home and have been plagued by carpenter bees. We have tried several other products: powders, liquids, professional and home store strengths and this is by far the best! It is non staining and easy to apply with a garden pump sprayer. After application, we watched the bees hover a minute and then decide to take up residence somewhere else.  Those that stuck it out, were dead in the morning. It is almost instantaneous! We also applied it to our barn and found it killed bugs that we didn't even know we had a problem with. Try this product= it works!!!

    This is magic!

    By Steve on 09/04/2008

Bought a neglected house with roaches all over the yard. After spraying 24 gallons of Dursban over a two month period I was still seeing too many roaches to count at night. I put Demand CS down and the next morning had over 60 dead roaches, 30+ more the following day and in 1 month and only 2 applications I'm down to 1 or 2 a day outside (dead) and none inside in a month. I've been outside at 11pm on hot nights and not seen one live roach! This is magic.

Ants, crickets, and roaches no more...

    By Gregory on 04/15/2009

    Verified Purchase

We have tried several pest control companies to eradicate our recurring summer sewer roach problem to no avail. When the city treats the sewer drains and manholes, the roaches come into our yard and house. We also live in an area with crickets and tiny black ants. Nothing seemed to stop everything until we tried Demand CS. I read the label carefully and found that the strongest wipe out dose was for scorpions. I carefully measured, mixed, and sprayed the yard, block wall, foundation, windows and doors. The next morning was like a nuclear winter. Dead roaches, ants, and crickets everywhere. Our gardener cleaned them up like leaves. We now use the maintenance dose every three months and have not had a pest in a year. Awesome Stuff!!!

Q
I've heard that Demand CS will stop the fall invasion of the Asian Beetles from entering into our buildings. Is this true?
A

Demand CS is labeled for a variety of insects, including Asian Beetles. The key is to treat early enough (early fall) and to apply the product in the right places. Asian beetles enter the structure through cracks and crevices, especially around windows and doors. Be sure to treat these areas thoroughly once a month through November. Please click on the product label for detailed instructions on application.

Q
Is Demand CS safe to use around children and pets?

What's the risk of transfer since Demand CS is capsulated? For instance, we have hardwood floors and we vacuum the floors and the baseboards. Can the insecticide be transferred from the vacuum to another surface (such as when vacuum rugs and couches) and increase the risk of contact?

A
If you are applying the product correctly, it should only be in cracks and crevices and other closed off areas. There should not be any issues with transfer effect like you are speaking of.  Once you apply Demand CS, the tiny microscopic balls of insecticide will bond to porous surfaces and will not be removed by general cleaning or vacuuming.  You should allow 30 minutes after application for the product to dry before cleaning or allowing children and pets to re-enter the room.

Q
When spraying a tree for elm beetles that is next to my pond do I need to worry about the over spray?

When spraying a tree for elm beetles that is next to my pond do I need to worry about the over spray of Demand CS hurting my fish?

A
Yes, Demand CS like any other insecticide can be very lethal to fish.  It would be advised to apply the product on a day that is not windy, and possibly even holding up a sheet of plastic on the other side of where you are spraying to protect overspray from going towards the pond.  Also, apply on a day when it is not going to rain so the product has time to dry and bond to its surface so it does not run off.

Q
Can Demand CS only be used outdoors? Or outside only when treating fleas?

Why does the label advise you that the treatment for fleas is "for outdoors only?" I want to get rid of fleas inside my house. If Demand CS works outside for fleas, why wouldn't it work inside for fleas while you were treating for other types of pests (e.g. roaches)? Should I use a different product for fleas? I was hoping to find a single product for everything. Any thoughts?

A
Demand CS is an excellent product for fleas, but the reason it is labeled for outside use only is because Demand CS is labeled to spray on the yard and large areas outside.  For inside the home, Demand CS is labeled to spray along baseboards, crack and crevices, and under appliances which is great for most insects but not for fleas.  Fleas can be in your carpet, on sofas, and on other areas where you cannot spray Demand CS because it is not labeled to be applied as a space spray or on areas that you come in contact with like your couch, chairs, pet bedding, etc.  We do have products that are labeled for fleas and for indoors and these products work very well and more effectively for fleas inside the home.  Our most popular flea control products come in our Outdoor/Indoor Flea Control Kit.  It has a very high success rate when used properly and is safe to use indoors around children and pets. It also can be applied in both areas for treatment.

Q
If using outdoors, how many sq feet does one bottle of Demand CS cover?
A
How large of an area Demand CS covers outside is all dependent on what you are treating for, how strong you mix it, and how thick the ground cover is you are spraying it on.  An 8 ounce bottle of Demand CS will treat anywhere from 10,000 sq. feet to 40,000 sq. feet.  You should read the product label for exact calculations based on your specific situation.

Can I spray Demand CS in my vegetable garden?

I have previously used it in my giant pumpkin patch.

A
No, Demand CS is not for use in a vegetable garden. We do carry Cyonara Lawn and Garden, which is labeled for several different vegetable plants and contains the same active ingredient as Demand CS. We also carry Malathion 57%, our most popular edible vegetation product.

Q
Do I have to worry about Demand CS harming nearby small bird families ?

I want to thoroughly spray the outside of my house about mid August. Small birds tend to fly around my house a lot as they like to nest under my porch.

A
When used as directed on the product label, Demand CS is safe to use outdoors in areas where birds frequent. Be sure the birds are out of the area when the Demand is being applied and try to keep the birds away until the area is dry.

Q
I'd like to spray my yard with Demand CS for ticks.

However, we have a TON of (now flowering) clover this year, and the bees are everywhere. I certainly don't want to risk hurting them ! This also brings up another question- are there any other "good" bugs that Demand might kill inside or outside the house besides bees ? Thanks.

A
Demand CS is not a selective insecticide and it will kill most insects that contact the treated area. We recommend learning how to create a tick free zone around your yard and only spraying in those areas where ticks are known to inhabit. Make sure the property around your home is unattractive to ticks. Because ticks are sensitive to dry conditions and do not thrive in short vegetation, they are seldom a problem in well-maintained lawns. Keep your grass mowed and keep weeds cut. Clean up items that attract rodents which can carry ticks, such as spilled birdseed, and hiding places like old wood piles. If ticks are present in vegetation along the edge of the property, insecticides labeled for control of ticks can be applied to small areas of high weeds that cannot be mowed. Often, one or two applications per season will be adequate to control ticks in these areas.

Q
Will Demand CS hurt rabbits?
A
When applied as directed on the product label, Demand CS should not harm rabbits. Be sure that the animals are out of the area while product is being applied, and they can come back into the area as soon as it is dry.

Q
What harm does Demand CS cause when sprayed on garden plants and vegetables?
A
Demand CS can be safely sprayed on most garden plants but absolutely cannot be used on edible vegetation. Since Demand CS has not been tested on edible vegetation and is not labeled for it, we do not know what effect it will have.

Q
Will Demand CS harm pets that roll in the grass after it dries?

After reading the reviews, I am interested in purchasing the Demand CS product for use around my home. I live next to a cornfield and it provides us with a bevy of insects of all shapes and sizes (thousand-leggers, ants, spiders, earwigs, etc) . I just wanted to be sure that if I spray the product on the outside of home, my dogs would be fine playing and laying in the yard once the product dries.

A
Demand CS is labeled for use on lawns and should pose no issues for your pets once it has dried.

The final concentration will really depend on what pest you are treating for and where you are treating. You will add between 6ml-24ml per gallon of water. Please take a few minutes to read through the Demand CS product label to find the appropriate concentration for your needs.

Q
Is Demand CS better than Phantom and Cyzmic CS for bedbugs?
A
Cyzmic CS is the generic equivalent of Demand CS and works exactly the same for bedbug infestations. Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that insects cannot detect and therefore readily walk over treated surfaces. Phantom is not a synthetic pyrethroid like Demand CS or Cyzmic CS and so far bedbugs have not shown any resistance to the active ingredient in Phantom. The one downside to Phantom is that it can take 7-10 days to kill the bedbugs that come into contact with treated areas and in that time period they can continue to bite and lay eggs. Demand CS and Cyzmic CS do have a faster kill rate than Phantom.
