Demon WP Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Your baby only needs to be out of the area when you are treating and until the area is dry (which can take up to 1 hour).

You should not need to spray indoors more than once a month for roach control if you are using Demon WP. Using Demon WP alone will not stop roaches from breeding and laying eggs. We recommend that you use an IGR (insect growth regulator) such as Gentrol to help stop juvenile roaches from reaching sexual maturity. We also recommend that you use a roach bait gel such as Advion Roach Bait Gel in cabinets, around counter tops, in drawers and around appliances to get rid of the roaches that hide in places that cannot be sprayed. By using all three products together, you will have a roach control program that will effectively get rid of your roach infestation. We offer all three products together in our Roach Control Kit #2. How long it will take to get rid of the infestation will depend on how heavy the infestation is and how good the sanitation is in your home. You can expect it to take 6 weeks to several months.

Demon WP is a great product for Lady bugs. Unfortunately, if you are dealing with them in your house right now you will only see limited results. Lady bugs move into structures to overwinter. They usually squeeze into wall voids, false ceilings, attics and other areas that are inaccessible to people and insecticides. As the heat kicks on in the house, the lady bugs warm up and start becoming active and emerge from hiding, driving homeowners nuts. Because most folks usually have no idea where the bugs are harboring you can only treat around baseboards, door frames and window frames and hope the insects will emerge where you have sprayed. After they contact the treated areas, it can take several hours for them to die. It is still worth spraying now to get rid of some of the bugs, but you will keep seeing them until spring when they will emerge en masse and leave your home. They do not eat, mate or lay eggs while indoors so need to worry about any damage or future baby lady bugs. This year you can be proactive by stopping these pests before they move in for the winter . You should spray Demon WP outdoors around your door frames, window frames, vents, eaves, around the bottom of your foundation, and any other crack or crevice where an insect could gain entry once a month August-November. You should wait at least 24 hours before wetting down the patio. If you scrub the patio you will remove the Demon WP residual and will only have limited results.

Demon WP is labeled for use outdoors in areas where fleas develop. Demon WP should not be sprayed on any area where a horse may graze.

Demon WP is not labeled for use on edible vegetation. We do have several products that can be used on edible vegetation such as Hi-Yield Permethrin Indoor/Outdoor Concentrate or Ferti-lome Liquid Carbaryl Garden Spray.

Demon WP is labeled to spray on plants and lawns and should not cause any damage to them. That being said we still recommend that you test a one plant or a small area before broadcasting the spray as some plants can be sensitive.

Demon WP does contain a synthetic pyrethroid and synthetic pyrethroids are known to be somewhat repellent. Demon WP should not be used to repel insects away from an area, instead it should be used to eliminate insects that touch treated areas as the repellency wears off after a short amount of time.

Demon WP like any other product we sell is very safe as long as you follow the application instructions.  When you mix Demon or any other product on our site with water, the solution is only strong enough to kill small insects.  It would be advised to not apply where your daughter will come in contact with it easily.  First off, 99%  of all bugs come from outside so you should apply most of your product around the outside perimeter of the house where you do not have to worry about your daughter coming close to it.  Inside, you should apply the product in cracks and crevices, underneath and behind appliances, window sills, where pipes go into the walls underneath sinks and behind toilets, etc....places that are hard for your daughter to get to.

Yes, Demon WP will kill black widow spiders. You should note that Demon WP does not have a fast knock down and any insect sprayed directly with the product can continue to live for several hours.

Demon WP will kill leaf cutter ants that are directly contacted with the spray but will have no result on the ants that stay in the nest. Leaf cutter ants can be a difficult pest to get rid of. The colonies are large and the ants make their own food so poison baits only have limited effects on this species of ants. According to several university websites MaxForce Ant Bait Granules containing hydramethlynon are some what effective, though they will usually eliminate only about 30% of a large colony in one treatment and will need to be reapplied several times.  DeltaGard granules is one of the only products actually labeled for leaf cutter ants. The product label recommends treating the mound directly and lightly watering the granules in. Again it may take several treatments to get the desired results. We also recommend contacting your local cooperative extension office to see if they have any recommendations for products that have worked for other people in your region.

Yes, we do ship to Hawaii. Demon WP can be used for ticks but it will leave a white powdery residue everywhere you spray. Talstar P would be a great choice for indoor and outdoor tick control. We also recommend adding an insect growth regulator such as Archer IGR to Talstar to stop the ticks from being able to develop while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. You will use 1 oz of Talstar +  1oz of Archer IGR per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft area. Do not make spot applications. Treat the entire area where exposure to ticks may occur. Use more water (not more product) when treating areas with dense ground cover or heavy leaf litter. Ticks may be reintroduced from surrounding areas on host animals. Retreatment may be necessary to achieve and/or maintain control during periods of high pest pressure. 

You can also help by creating a "tick safe zone" in your yard. You should have an area that is at least 9 ft wide between your yard and any wooded area. Trim back trees to allow as much sunlight as possible into your yard. Keep grass as short. Remove as much leaf litter as possible. A clearly defined, well manicured border between your yard and any wooded areas or weedy lots will reduce the chance of ticks infesting your yard.

Most people that used to purchase Ficam W have found similar results with products such as Demon WP, Cy-Kick CS, Demand CS or Suspend SC for general pest control. You did not specifically indicate what pest you are trying to eliminate so we can only recommend general use products for you.

Yes, you can plug the hole without treatment if the hole is not big enough for the bee to enter. You should note that the bee may return and start to drill a new hole unless you apply an insecticide such as Demon WP. Some bees will actually bore through paint and varnish so using an insecticide is the only surefire way to get rid of them.

Typically it will not drive them inside because Demon is not necessarily a repellent, meaning the roaches try to avoid the area.  Roaches will walk over where you spray and get the product on their bodies.  Although they can make it inside before dying because Demon WP will take a little bit of time to kill the roach, they should be dead by the time they make it inside.  It definitely would not hurt to spray the attic space for good measure.

Yes! Demon WP is one of the most popular scorpion products on the market. Demon WP will kill scorpions that come into contact with treated areas plus it will kill the other insects that are around your home which is why the scorpions are there to start with.

You would not want to use granules under the crawl space of the house.  The reason being is granules require moisture, either from watering or rain, to release the insecticide that kills the insects.  You should always water in the granules after application especially if you are in an area with little rain and moisture.  This may be why you are not getting good results already in the yard.  Since rain will not make it in the crawl space, or at least it should not be, granules are not good for under the house.  In addition to applying granules in the yard and watering them in, you should apply a liquid insecticide, specifically a wettable powder around the perimeter of the house and underneath the house.  Wettable powders are easier for spiders and other insects to get on their bodies typically and are faster acting.  Our most popular wettable powder product is Demon WP and it can be applied using a hand pump sprayer.

Demon WP does a fantastic job killing just about any spider that comes into contact with treated surfaces. Demon WP will also kill most other insects which will eliminate the spiders food source and make your home and property a less favorable hunting ground. Demon WP does not offer an instant knockdown and it can take several hours to a day for spiders to die after they come into contact with the dry residual. Demon WP will kill wasps and yellow jackets as long as you apply it to a place where they will come into contact with it.  If you know where they are going in and out of their nest, you can treat that area directly in the early morning or late evening when they are not active.  If you do not know where the nest is then they can only be affected if they land on a surface that you treat.

There is no difference between Demon WP and Cynoff WP other than they are made by different manufacturers.  They both have the same active ingredient, cypermethrin, and treat the same pests.  Just like there are different manufacturers of aspirin at the pharmacy, there are different manufacturers of pesticides that basically do the same thing as well.
