Didn't help a bit
By Ken on 05/02/2010
It almost seemed like we had a small baby boom of flys after we used the product in our one sink kitchen. I threw twenty bucks down the drain at a time when I couldn't afford it :( sad panda
Expert response:
This customer probably did not have drain flies. This product rarely does not work, if they are coming from the drain. Other flies can be in a house that are the same size as drain flies. They could be fruit flies or they could be fungus gnats, which breed from potted plants. We always recommend performing a test using glue boards over all of the drains in the room before treating. If you get flies caught on the glue board you leave over the drain at night, then you KNOW it is drain flies and you know what drain to treat. If you still have flies in the house but you are not catching any on the glue boards, then it is fruit flies or fungus gnats.

Surprise, surprise: eco-friendly stuff won't rid you of drai
By Steven on 01/03/2012
We returned from a week's trip to find a shower drain infested w/drain flies for the 1st time. Common-sense remedies (boric acid powder, "Liquid Pipe Snake") didn't work (after several weeks), so I found myself here. Reading the majority of good reviews, I thought I couldn't go wrong. I followed the treatments exactly - but after 5 treatments, the shame of drain flies was back. I had enough left for a couple more days, so I figured that would do it. Nope, they were back in full force - "eco-friendly" cleaning means NOTHING to gnasty gnats! At my final straw, I decided to try an insect spray; trouble was that spraying DOWN into a drain doesn't work, when the can needs to be upright to spray! So, I made a cup out of foil, went outside (to avoid the aerosol smell) & sprayed some "OFF! with DEET" in the cup (2 tbsp or so) & poured it around the perimeter of the drain. Next day - NO FLIES!! I did one more treatment as insurance, but an oz. of DEET was worth 2 lbs. of the DF5000 "cure". The moral? If you want a VERY expensive eco-friendly-drain-fly-house-cleaner, buy DF5000. If you want RID of the DFs, get some cheap "Liquid Plumber Gel" & a can of "OFF!". Clean the drain well, rinse w/hot water, & pour in the "OFF!" to sit overnight. I'm all for eco-friendly, but I'm not coddling drain flies. DR5000 is a TOTAL waste of money, if you REALLY want rid of these horrid pests.

More $$ down the drain
By Lc on 04/14/2012
Thought I had drain flies, but maybe not. Had to call Pest Control who thought flies were coming from dried flowers. Going to have ozone treatment. Not really the fault of the product, just not the right choice for this job

FLAT OUT DOESN'T WORK
By Eric on 08/01/2012
I don't know if these reviews of this product are real but this stuff CLEARLY DOESN'T WORK. I'm Still killing 40 plus flies a day in this one room. and bathroom. I have only 1 drain downstairs in my house (sink). I use this stuff, cover the drain they are STILL getting in. The bathroom and room next to it are STILL MASSIVELY infested. I took the trap off the sink and scrubbed all the slime out, poured the Gel in directly in the drain line everyday for the 7 days and there has been no drop in the drain fly numbers at all. I feel REAL bad for the people who will be purchasing my house inside the next few months. The June, July and August months are like nothing you've EVER seen with these drain flies. THIS PRODUCT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL, KILLING MY POCKETS IN A RECESSION. THANKS GUYS!

Still have drain flies!
By Mary on 11/27/2012
Used the product as directed, but unfortunately it did not eliminate the flies from my bathtub drain. I'm not sure if another bottle would be effective as the five applications didn't even appear to slow down their life cycle.

DF 5000 Drain Fly Gel Doesn't Really Work
By Christine on 02/03/2013
No Stars for this product. Ugh! I used the product 2 days longer than the recommended FIVE days and i had even more of these little pests than before! I would NOT recommend this product. It's a bigger issue than just dumping this stuff (along with my money) down the drain. I'm at a loss at how to get rid of these bugs. HELP!!

Drain Fly
By Kurtis on 11/23/2015
Purchased this product to eliminate some drain fly issues in a bathroom, product seemed to help during the treatment days but did not eliminate the problem permanently. The drain flies were back within two days.
Expert response:
Don't be discouraged! Due to the breeding habits of drain flies it can take a few rounds of treatments to get rid of them for good. Please take a few moments to read our drain fly guide to learn how to implement a successful control program: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/how-to-get-rid-of-drain-flies-a-517.html

By Sharon on 10/02/2010
Well first when I received this stuff it had leaked in the box so I lost like the first 4 oz...I called the company who only refunded me for about that value...the box was a mess. I have used this according to directions and there are still flies in one of my sinks!! Using this in 4 sinks (4 oz) each it goes very quickly...for the money that's a lot. I still have those irritating little flies in my kitchen!!

Use of DF5000 for drain flies
By Mike on 07/11/2012
We have a new home and we have had drain flies in 2 sinks (one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom) each year around July for the past 2 years. I purchased and used 4 bottles (64 oz) of DF5000 Drain Fly Gel and I still have drain flies. I am looking for another remedy to get rid of these pesky critters. I have tried boiling water, vinegar, bleach, insect spray, with no luck. These flies only last a few weeks but are very annoying. I wish the product would have done the trick, but it didn't.
Four Bottles Down - Still have flies
By Kyung on 08/07/2012
I've gone through four bottles and I also purchased two cans of Gentrol Aerosol IGR Spray. The fly population has decreased significantly but they still live even though I've had been diligent about the application of this product. I'd say if you want to decrease the amount of drain flies, this is your product. If you want to rid yourself of them, look for another solution.

Drain Gel will help break down the debris that drain flies breed in, but it does not kill the flies themselves. Please take a few moments to review our Drain Fly Guide to learn how to implement a successful control program:

DF Drain Gel
By Robin on 10/20/2017
Though I used as directed, I'm still overrun with these darn bugs. This stuff didn't help much at all. It wasn't cheap, either.
Expert response:
Thank you for your review. We apologize you did not receive the expected results. We would like to take some time out to help troubleshoot with you. Where the DF 5000 Drain Gel helps clean your drain as well as help to make it smell better it will not control the drain flies. For control of drain flies please see our Drain Fly Kit (http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/drain-fly-kit-p-1052.html) which comes with complete instructions and is advised for people with new infestations of Drain Flies. If you have any other questions, please give us a call at 866-581-7378.

It had potential
By Jared on 07/11/2010
These bugs are relentless. After the initial five days, we thought they were gone, but days later they came back with a vengeance. We're going to try to detach the pipes and scrub before starting the 5 day treatment again. The shipment came super fast and we were happy to get started with the product right away.

Drain fly gel
By Lucia on 06/04/2012
We have used it every night for about 3 weeks now, and have cut down the flies a lot, but they are still not gone. I'm beginning to think we might have to end up getting an exterminator or something. I have 2 bottles left and will continue to use every night and hope they are gone completely by that time.
Works, but....
By Karen on 07/18/2012
I've submitted 2 reviews on this product already because initially after the first week of use the problem seemed to be under control, and I gave the first two reviews 5 stars. Then we went to the once a week treatment and we started seeing a few drain flies again, so now we are back to treating every night and I'm downgrading to 3 stars because we followed the directions exactly and the problem is not "eliminated," although it is better than it was. I noticed in the morning that there is a fly caught in the gel in the sink as though it tried to fly out of the drain and got stuck in the gel that was around the drain hole. There are other flies in the bathroom, and escaping the bathroom as they did before. I'm wondering what else I need to do to eliminate these things. Does anyone have any ideas? Do I need to snake the drain or pour something down there to kill the larvae? What's next? I'm not spending $168 a month to clean out sludge! There has to be a more permanent solution to getting rid of the larva and the breeding ground.
eehhh
By Eileen on 11/26/2012
My review right now is a mixed set of emotions. I think it works, but I also have fruit flys and fungus gnats along with these drain flies. Fungus gnats live in the dirt of our house plants. I have treated all of our drains in the house. I bought a 4 pack of this DF 5000 drain fly gel. The only place I am having a "fly" issue now, is my kitchen where I also have the other flys.

DF 5000 Drain Fly Gel
By Anonymous on 09/03/2013
I was disappointed in the resuts achieved by the use of the DF 5000 Drain Fly Gel. I treated two sink drains (kitchen and bathroom) per directions for 8 straight days. Applying before retiring to allow maximum treatment time. After four days of treatment the number of flies increased. At the end of the eight days the number decreased to single digits but did not get rid of the flies. It is disappointing that the use of DF 5000 did not eliminate the problem.
Good Stuff
By Alexia on 06/16/2010
Follow the directions, and it works. My drain fly/moth problem was horrific, though - literally thousands of them in my bathroom at a time. I opted to use the whole bottle night after night instead of leaving some for the once a month thing. I have *very few* bugs left, so I may buy some more, but overall this takes care of the problem.

Worked like a charm
By Liz on 08/23/2010
This product worked like a charm. The trick is finding the right drain or source of the flies. We were about to spend thousands of dollars to rip out plumbing and try to find the source of these pests. We started to see results in 2 days. What a relief!
