Do I need to pull up my lawn/grass that grows right up to the trunk of my crepe myrtle when applying Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate as a soil drench?

In regards to the 5/19/2014 Q&A: You mention pulling up dry leaves/mulch. I have grass growing right up to the trunk of a crepe myrtle. Do I need to dig up the lawn around the tree to expose the

Answer:

Turfgrass would not need to be pulled back or removed before applying Bio Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II Concentrate for soil drench applciations. The pulling back or removing is referencing weed barriers, mulch, leaf liter or other types of organic matter that can cause the insecticide can bind to the organic matter and reduce uptake by the roots.   You may need to used slighly more water volume to ensure the drench solution penetrates through the thatch layer of the turfgrass and gets into the root zone. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. When using Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II - Concentrate for trees the product label states you use 1 oz for every inch of distance around trunk. For trees with distance around trunk of less than 30 inches apply the solution evenly in a circle 2 feet from the tree trunk. Trees with distance around trunk greater than 30 inches, apply the solution evenly in a circle 3 - 4 feet from the tree trunk. View the full product label for more information.
