    Q
Can Dominion 2L be applied through a root feeder?
I have been treating my ash trees with Dominion 2L for the past several years and it has protected them against EAB. I have been doing the root soak method. I have a Ross root feeder and was wondering if I can deliver it to the trees by injecting it into the soil with that? Thanks.
    A

It would not be recommended to apply Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate through a root feeder.  However, there are a few other application options besides the root drench that you could do.

Soil Injection: Grid System: Space holes in a grid pattern on 2.5 foot centers, extending to the drip line of the tree.

Circle System: Apply in holes evenly spaced in circles, (use more than one circle dependent upon the size of the tree) beneath the drip line of the tree extending in from that line.

Basal System: Space injection holes evenly around the base of the tree trunk no more than 6 to 12 inches out from the base

    Q
Can I spray Dominion 2L through my ortho hose end sprayer for grubs?
    A

Dominion 2L which will allow you to use smaller amounts to treat your lawn and shrubs in smaller amounts. You will use 0.46 to 0.6 fl. oz per 1,000 sq ft for broadcast applications in whatever amount of water it takes you to cover that area. (Water only acts as a carrier so the exact amount of water used is not important.

    Q
Is it ok to treat around carport and the garage to avoid make hols in concrete floor with Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate?
    A

The goal is to treat against the foundation around the entire house.  So no, we do not recommend just treating around the carport and garage area with Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate. You should drill the slab in the garage just as if it was a patio slab up against the foundation.

    Q
Is Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate labeled for Crane Flies?
We live on a small lake and the backyard is infested with these things on the walls of our home. The front yard seems to be ok. It is damper in the back yard because of the lake.
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is not labeled for Crane Flies. We would recommend Talstar P to spray the perimeter of the home, bushes, trees, shrubs, etc for control of Crane Flies. Talstar P should be used early to mid season to control the larvae of crane flies. This application should be made between August-February during times when the ground is not frozen. If treatments are made in March-April, they may only provide supression. You can consult with your local cooperative extension office for details on timing of application in your area specifically.

    Q
    What should I do if I over-applied Dominion 2L?
I over applied by about .5oz per gallon of water per 1000sqft. Big mistake on my part! Any pre-cautions I should take or is my St Augustine grass in jeopardy? Thx any info will help.
    A

If Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate was overapplied you can apply more water to help water it in more.  It should not harm the St Augustine but might make an area repellent vs a normal application where it would be non repellent.

    Q
Why is Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate not labeled for indoor use?
    A

Dominion 2L is not labeled for indoor use as a pest control spray, meaning it is not permitted to apply out in the open indoors.  We are not sure of the exact reasons why the manufacturer has placed this restriction on it.  However, you can use Dominion 2L as a spot treatment indoors if you are treating for termites.  You can spot treat inside for termites by treating inside wall voids or expansion joints since you are not spraying out in the open.

    Q
Can I use Dominion 2L as a soil drench on Elm trees for bark beetles?
My trees are over 60' tall and not practical for spraying.
    A

Dominion 2L would not work for elm bark beetles as it would not reach to the areas of the trees these beetles infest.  Effective treatment involves killing the beetles before they bore into bark in fall and when they first emerge in spring so protecting healthy trees is best. Timing is critical to reach the pests before they're under the protective bark.  You can use a product like Permethrin SFR for this.  There are also articles linked below that can help

    Q
Will Dominion work for the Seagrape Borer? Also, can it be used for thrips?
    A

Dominion 2L is labelled to treat for Thrips on trees and the application rate is 0.1 to 0.4 fl. oz. (3 to 12 mL) per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.)

For treating Sea Grape Borers, unfortunately, there have not been any studies in recent years to show that any insecticide is effective on them. The best recommendation for control is pruning and destroying twigs infested with the borers as a method of reducing populations.

    Q
What is the best way to apply Dominion 2L for bagworms on Leland Cypress trees? How much per 5 gallons of water?
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is a great product for listed insects as a soil drench. However, for bagworms, a foliar application of a product such as Talstar P would be a better option. It can be applied once monthly. If the bagworms are mature, manually plucking them and soaking in soapy water would be the alternate option.

    Q
What is the rate when mixing Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate as a soil drench for elm leaf beetle? How much per gallon of water?
    A

Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is applied at 0.1-0.2 fl oz (3-6 ml) per foot of the shrubs height or 0.1 to 0.4 fl. oz. (3 to 12 mL) per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) for trees. Apply uniformly as a drench around the base of the tree in not less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop solution from reaching the root zone.

  • Asked by Lionel from Cornwall On Canada

    Q
Our Ash tree has ash borers, what can I use?
    A

We would recommend using Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate. It is labeled for use on trees for emerald ash borers as a preventative and a curative. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5-gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at least 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 10-14 days after applications to encourage uptake.
