    Q
Is Dominion 2L effective in killing Formosan Subterranean Termites?
I have heard different stories about Formosan Subterranean termites and how they are the "super termite", and that certain termite treatments are not effective in getting rid of the colony. Right now I can only afford Dominion 2L to treat my house, will this get rid of a Formosan Subterranean termite colony?
    A
Dominion 2L is effective on all subterranean termites - and Formosan termites are a type of subterranean termites - and will work just fine at eliminating them.

    Q
When doing a ground treatment with Dominion 2L should you use protective gear?
Is this product safe to use by the average person?
    A
You should wear chemical resistant gloves, long sleeved shirt, long pants and closed toe shoes when applying Dominion 2L. As long as you are applying the product outdoors in a well ventilated area, a respirator is not needed. Dominion 2L is a safe product for most folks to use. We do encourage our customers to read the product label and the MSDS before they purchase a product to be sure they will be comfortable using it.

If Dominion has been used in the soil around my house, is it safe to grow herbs in this soil. Im assuming not
If Dominion has been used in the soil around my house, is it safe to grow herbs in this soil. Im assuming not but how can I know if the soil has been contaminated by its use?
    A
You should not plant an herb garden that will contain edible vegetation in the same soil that was treated with Dominion 2L. Dominion 2L persists in soil for at least 5 years and it is not labeled to be used in places where edible plants will be grown. If you really do want to plant a herb garden in an area that was treated with Dominion 2L you will need to remove all of the soil and replace it with untreated soil. You should note though that if the soil is removed and it is in the termite treatment barrier zone you will be left with a hole in your termite barrier.

    Q
I am treating a pole barn for termites. It has tin siding, where should i trench?
Could I just dig a trench around the wooden poles and treat that area or do I need to treat the entire distance around the outside and with dirt floor treat the inside also. I have seen several termites on wood while doing matience work on the pole barn. It is just a storage barn. But I do want to get rid of the termites.
    A
You really only need to be concerned about the wood.  So this means you should only trench and treat around the poles in the ground.  You do not have to trench around the tin if there is no other wood in close proximity. Please see our Termite Treatment Article.

Will Dominion 2L work as well as Termidor SC for wasp control?
I have used termidor sc to kill wasps. It worked well, also killed flies. They are paper wasps, the like to get water from the lawn and have stung the kids a couple times. Is your product as effective at killing my pest wasps?
    A
We do not manufacturer Dominion 2L or Termidor SC though we do sell both products in our online store. Termidor SC is labeled to be used for wasps but Dominion 2L is not labeled to be used for wasps. We recommend you stick with the Termidor SC for wasp control on or in close proximity to your home.

    Q
What is the difference between Dominion 2L and Bayer Merit 2F?
    A
Dominion 2L is basically the generic form of Merit 2F. They share the same active ingredient at the same concentration. Dominion 2L does have a much broader label than the Merit 2F which does make it more versatile. Merit 2F is labeled just for plant infesting insects and can only be used on plants and grasses. Dominion 2L on the other hand has had their product further tested and the product label allows you to use Dominion 2L for plant infesting insects and also in the ground around structures for termite barrier treatments.

    Q
How do I treat hemlock woolly adelgid by soil drench method using Dominion 2L?
    A
When using Dominion 2L as a soil drench for Hemlock Woolly Adelgids you should use 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) diluted in 1 pint - 1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter.    The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

    Q
Can I use Dominion 2L to treat ash trees for Emerald Ash Borer?
I have used other products which have 1.47% Imidacloprid appied at 1 Oz per inch circumference applied annually. At 21.4% I would think about 1 Oz per foot circumference would be more that adequate. Recommendations for this use?
    A
Dominion 2L is labeled to use on trees to help protect against boring beetles. Treatments should begin in May or June and should be done every year to protect trees from the Emerald Ash Borers. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter for trees. It is recommended that you use the higher rate for boring beetles. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter for trees but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees. Q
How long does a bottle of Dominion 2L stay viable for?
After a bottle of Dominion 2L is opened and re-closed (not never been opened nor left open without a cap), how long does it stay viable for? I'm asking this because I did not know whether it is better to buy more small bottles of Dominion 2L versus buying one large bottle. I won't be using it all once. I will be using it gradually.
    A
As long as you store the bottles of Dominion 2L out of direct sunlight and out of extreme temperatures you can expect Dominion 2L to stay effective for at least 3 years from the date of purchase. You should note that Dominion 2L is only available in 27.5 fl oz bottles.

    Q
How close to growing tomato plants can I safely treat with Dominion 2L?
I have tomato plants that are producing. I want to treat approx. 5 feet away from them. Will the Dominion 2L be absorbed by the tomato plants and if so, will it be safe to eat the ripe tomatoes?
    A
You should take care not to use Dominion 2L within the root-zone or drip-line of the tomato plants because any plant that absorbs the Dominion 2L will need to be discarded. Dominion 2L is a systemic product and will be trans-located throughout plants if it is absorbed by the roots.

    Preventative treatment
I do not have termites. I would like to keep it that way. How would I use Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate to help ensure that I do not get termites (preventative use).
    A
We have an article that explains exactly what you need to do to perform a preventative termite treatment.  It is called, "How To Do A termite Treatment" and if you follow the instructions outlined in this article you will treat and protect your home from termites as good as any professional company could do.  It also recommends the product you should use, which is Dominion 2L or Termidor SC.

Getting rid of termites tunneling inside foundation
Found termites tunneling inside my cinder block foundation wall. Do you have to drill holes in basement floor and the wall??? I would have to drill about 200 holes if I have to drill into every void in the blocks. Or would drilling in the floor be enough?
    A

You have to drill into the cinder block.  But not every block, you should drill two holes per block, one hold per void, in one line around the perimeter of the basement or at least wherever you have exposed block.  Typically you go up about 12 to 18 inches, and drill that block all the way around.  You should spray 2 gallons per 10 feet into the block.

There probably is more holes to drill this way, but it will go much faster.  It is much easier to drill through the thin wall of the block rather than the thick concrete slab.  You could probably drill 10 to 15 holes in the same time it would take you to drill one single hole through the slab of the basement.  Also, the problem with drilling through the slab is that the termites are probably entering the block from much deeper under the soil then the slab level, so if you only treated the slab it would probably not contact the termites and not work.  Only drilling into the block, where they are, will guarantee you will take care of the issue.

I plan to use Dominion 2L on perimeter of my house.
I dont have termites inside the house but they are outside in yard eating up my grass. What can I do.

Termites do not usually eat grass. Are you sure you are dealing with termites and not some other pest? Did you get a positive insect ID from a reputable source?

    Q
What is the mixture rate for soil drenching around a 20' tall coconut palm tree with whitefly infestation
    A
Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake. We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
Does Dominion 2L lose it's potency over time when stored? Will it work on smaller ants?
I used Dom 2L last year for a carpenter ant problem. It worked great! I was just wondering if I stored it indoors over the winter would it still be as effective next year? Also, my mom's place in Fl has a bad ant problem. The ants are very tiny about 1/16th of an inch. I had to use a magnifying glass to make sure they were ants. I tried using Terro and they ate a whole bottle and seemed to multiply. I was wondering if Dom 2L would also take care of them
    A
As long as the product was not allowed to freeze or over heat Dominion 2L will last for several years in its concentrated form. Dominion 2L should take care of any ant species that crosses over treated areas.
