    Q
Left trench open after applicaton for a few days and it rained (after 24 hr) is it ok?
I installed the product as recommended but didn't get the trench backfilled for a few days. About 3 days later it rained pretty hard. Do I need to re-apply treatment?
    A
Since you said that it rained about 24 hours after, the product should have had enough time to bind with the soil. We recommend back filling the soil and making an applciation on top of the filled in soil. If you have any other questions please contact us 866-581-7378

    Q
    What About Bricks?
The back of my house has a glassed in patio with a brcik patio on th outside. How would I treat this perimiter?
    A
Without seeing exactly how your patio is laid out its hard to determine the exact method you need to use, however i will give you the options for all scenarios. If your patio is a concrete patio surrounded by bricks, you will need to trench along the foundation of the home, continuing the trench around the bricks as you come up on either side of the patio. You will also need to drill holes 12 inches apart through the concrete patio where the concrete comes up to the home, and if you have wood studs in the walls of the patio anywhere, you would need to drill through the concrete on the side of the patio where the concrete comes up to the bricks. If you have any other questions please let us know.

    Q
I treated my ash trees a month ago using "Dominion' as a drench at .2 oz per 1" of diameter as recommended.
I am currently losing a lot of leaves on most of my ash trees. What can I do next??
    A
It is hard for us to determine how the Dominion is working on your tree without knowing what pest you are treating the ash tree for. Please provide us with more information and we can better diagnose your treatment and if there are any other factors effecting your tree. As Dominion is a systemic, it can take several weeks for the product to actually fully translocate all the way through the tree and start effecting the insect feeding on and destroying it. Many times a foliar application is needed as well to help speed up the control of the insect.

A month ago I applied "Dominion" as a drench to treat the emerald ash borer. Applcation rate was .2 oz per
inch of diameter mixed with an adequate amount of water to pour around the tree base (perhaps 5 gal). I have kept the ground moist. I am currently observing major foilage drop. What can I do next?? These are critical landscape trees!

    Q
Does Dominion 2L leave a residue on concrete for ants to pick up?
Our home has a 2' wide concrete apron around most of the perimeter at ground level. The ground apron meets the block foundation. The block foundation extends 18” up from the concrete apron where it meets the siding. So there's really no soil to treat directly in contact with the foundation. We were going to spray Dominion 2L much like one would use Termidor for ant (not termite) control-- 1' up the foundation and 1' out from it and around the door and window frames-- but it looks like imidacloprid only binds to soil/foliage. Would Dominion leave a residue on the concrete foundation/apron or the door frames so that if the ants walked over it, it would eventually transfer back to the ant colony? If so, would this treatment need to be repeated every 30 days or so?
    A
You are exactly correct in how to apply the product around the foundation of the home and it does leave a residual behind. The longevity of the residual for termite control bonds to the soil for 7 years, but when used as a perimeter spray it will last at least 30 days on concrete/grass to control the ants. They will pick up the product without realizing it and transfer it back through the entire colony.

    Q
    Reuse of spray equipment
Before I order I have one more question about delivering non-repellant products like Dominion 2L. I have 2 tank sprayers, pump style. One is reserved for herbicides like Roundup; one is for contact insecticides like Sevin. I'm not averse to making another tank purchase to reserve for “non-repellants only”, but is it necessary? Even though I clean them out (tank, hose, and nozzles) after each use, I'm wondering if insects would be sensitive to any lingering residue of soap or the scent from a previous chemical use that we humans might not be able to detect. Thanks for your help.
    A
It is not necessary to purchase another sprayer. Dominion 2L can be put into the "insecticide" sprayer as long as you thoroughly clean the sprayer.

    Q
A professional company treated my home years ago, what continuing treatment do I need to do?
They treated the crawl space, placed bait stations around the house, and administered annual treatments. I want to save money and continue treatments myself. Do I need to trench to make a treatment?
    A
For a complete treatment we always recommend trenching 6inx6in around the structure and applying Termidor SC. This will protect for up to 10 years.

    Q
How to use Dominion 2L for engraver beetle and pine bark beetle?
    Direct trunk spray vs. drench?
    A
To treat for pine bark beetle, you can do either. When using Dominion 2L as a soil drench for pine bark beetles you should use 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) diluted in 1 pint - 1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter.    The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per inch of trunk diameter but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and trans-located throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.

    Q
After trenching, what type of soil, dirt, etc do I need to fill in?
I understand that the backfill must also be treated with the chemical as it is placed in trench . I need more backfill in the crawlspace trench also . Also , is there a type of mulch that can be used which termites don't like or is it best not to put mulch around the house foundation . Thanks , Chris .
    A
You can use just about any type of fill in dirt. We recommend steering away from the sand as the Dominion 2L will bond better with soil/dirt. As far as using mulch, we do not recommend using any type against the structure as they do attract termites.

I had a company apply Termidor SC about 7 or 8 years ago. Can I apply Dominion now?
I saw a termite the other day near a tree which is about 10 feet away from my garage, which is attached to my house. I am thinking of applying Dominion 2L. Can I apply this even though I had Termidor treatment by a professional company about 7 or 8 years ago?
    A
Yes, you can now apply the Dominion 2L. The Dominion and Termidor will not negatively impact each other.

    Q
i have a few questions, first of all how effective is this product against drywood termites?
    A
If dealing with drywood termites there are better options available. You would typically remove and replace the piece of wood they are infesting, treat the wood with a product designed to absorb into the wood like Boracare which will last for the life of the wood, or inject a foam like Premise or Termidor Foam into the galleries where you know there is activity. If you already have dominion, you can use it to spray into the galleries and it will kill the ones that are currently there and the residual will transfer through the colony, however the residual is only about 6 weeks on the woods surface so it doesn't provide a long term protection like Boracare would.

    Q
I have an active infestation of termites.
I am planning on using Dominion 2L per recommendations , with a follw-up in a year with the Advance bait system. Is this necessary? When I tear out the sheetrock, and replace the bad wood, i am going to use BoraCare to spray the new wood and existing wood. Thanks for the help.
    A
Although the Advance Bait System is a great way to monitor your yard for activity of termites, if you treat the new wood with Boracare and do the trench treatment with Dominion, it is not necessary. Some homeowners feel better after doing the treatment having something to physically check, but as long as you have done the trench treatment properly, your home will be protected for the next 7 years. Feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

    Q
Is it safe to treat with Dominion 2L an area where water line will be in the trench?
My home is a slab construction and my water supply line is routed within 12" of slab perimeter.
    A

The water line should be PVC, which will not allow the product to penetrate into the water line.  Also, if the line is 12” deep and you dig down 6” deep, then you should be fine as far as not hitting the water line.

    Q
Hello I have a yard surround by 9ft ficus trees and also my St. Auguestin grass has cinch bug.
Do you recommend this product? If so how do want me to apply to both bush and grass?
    A

You can use Dominion 2L to treat trees and shrubs for chinch bugs. Most people use a 5 gallon bucket or a large watering can to apply Dominion as a soil drench. You will need 0.1 to 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at least 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

    Q
why do I need to dig a trench when i can just spray Dominion 2L along the foundation?
    A
You want to dig a trench and apply Dominion 2L in the trench for many reasons. One, by applying the Dominion into the soil, you are allowing the product to bind and stay put for up to 7 years. Two, the depth of the trench ensures that the termites will come in contact with it. If you just spray you would have to reapply every 6 months and termites might not even come in contact with the solution, because it is not in the ground where they are. Please review our article " Barrier and Soil Treatment for Termites".
