Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate does not contain a surfactant or adjuvant and one is not needed to use with it except for when treating pecan trees per the product label.
For proper application the trunk diameter is important when treating whiteflies.
You will need 0.1 to 0.4 fl. oz. of Dominion per foot of shrub height or 0.1 to 0.4 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees. (For heavy current infestations, higher label rates are recommended). The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested. Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water. Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake.
We also recommend using a product with an active ingredient that is different than the soil drench for a foliage application while you are waiting for the Dominion to translocate through the ficus. Talstar P is the most popular choice for foliage application on ficus for white fly.

Our most popular choices for these are Talstar P (topical spray, water-based concentrate- use 1 oz per gallon of water) and Dominion 2L (systemic, applied as a root drench; use 0.2 oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees or per foot of shrub height for bushes). You may want to take a look at our article on Aphid Control for more information on treating this pest.
When using Dominion 2L Termiticide for bores, it is labeled to be applied as a soil injection which includes grid systems, circle systems, basal systems, and soil drench applications. This product cannot be injected into a tree for borers. Also, please keep in mind injecting product into a tree directly needs to be done by a trained specialist with the right equipment, otherwise more damage could be done to the tree.
Dominion 2L is not labeled for use on edible plants and any food plants treated with the product should be discarded. You would not want to eat anything from the tree for at least one year or one growing season.
When using Dominion 2L Termiticide as a soil drench for pine bark beetles you should use 0.2 fl. oz. (3 to 6 mL) of Dominion 2L per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) diluted in 1 pint - 1 gallon of water per inch of trunk diameter. The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is best applied before scale has become an issue as it takes time to be translocated throughout the plant, up to 8 weeks or so. It is not labeled for use on any bearing fruit trees though. Olive trees can be sensitive to neem oil, which is what is commonly used on edibles for disease/insects, so we are not sure that it would be a safe application. We suggest contact a local Master Gardner for recommendations on how to treat this pests on your edible olive trees..
Depending on the target pest, Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate is applied at 0.1 fl oz to 0.4 fl. oz per inch of trunk diameter (D.B.H.) Apply uniformly as a drench around the base of the tree in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. Remove plastic or any other barrier that will stop the solution from reaching the root zone. Please refer to the Table Chart on page 33 of the product label for the target pest.
Yes, Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate can be applied to Boxwoods for leafminers. When applying this systemic product as a drench for leafminers you will mix 0.1 - 0.4 fl oz per inch of the trunk diameter. Apply uniformly around the base of the tree in no less than 10 gallons of water per 1000 square feet. Direct application to the root area. You could also incorporate a product like Talstar P for a foliar application of leafminers using 0.5 to 1 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq.ft.
Dominion 2L Termiticide Concentrate should only be applied to the exterior up against the foundation (1 ft up and 1 ft out) for a perimeter spray. It is not suggested to apply to driveways, sidewalks, points of runoff, patios etc.

Earthworms have a protective mucous on their bodies that helps protect them from pesticides and they live well below the surface of the soil and pesticides cannot penetrate that far down to be effective. The active ingredient in Dominion 2L Termiticide Imidacloprid only has been shown to have acute toxicity to earthworms. In no case did a long term effect on earthworm populations occur, so this product will not harm the earthworms on your property.
Dominion 2L is not a fungicide and would not treat any tree for black sooty mold. Dominion is often used as soil drench application to the base/root zone of trees to help with insects that do damage to the plant throughout the season such as whiteflies, aphids, borers, etc. Make sure you have correctly identified the issue on your crape myrtles as either disease or insect as the treatments would be very different for each. If its insects that are causing the sooty spots on the leaves, you would only need to do a single application of Dominion 2L to the roots of the plant per year. It does need to be applied when the trees are acively growing to absorb the product effectively.
Dominion 2L Termiticide is applied at 0.1 to 0.2 fl oz per inch of trunk diameter for trees at the base of the tree inside the drip line. For a tree measuring 187” in diameter, the rate of Dominion 2L needed would would come to 18.7 to 37.4 fl oz for soil drenching. The minimum amount of water recommended for trees is 16 oz of water per inch of trunk diameter but can use more if needed. Based on the product label recommendation of 16 oz of water per inch of trunk diameter for trees, a minimum of 23 gallons of water would be needed. Keep in mind, water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved.
After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water.
