    Q
Can I apply Drione dust to an area where I had bees entering last season to kill them this season?
I had bees entering an opening by my basement window at the end of last summer. I am afraid that they have a nest in my wall and want to kill them before they become active this spring. Can I apply Drione dust before I see any activity this spring?
    A
Drione Dust can be applied to voids and nest entry ways that had previous activity or current activity as the dust will last. You should apply using a dust applicator and when the bees are less active (at night or very early in the morning). Dusting entry points also helps with the treatment of other insects too.

    Q
Does Drione Dust work well for killing fleas on concrete floors?
I have a infestation of fleas and springtails in my basement. The basement is unfinished so there is nothing but cement floors and insulation on walls.
    A
Drione is not labeled to be broadcast over floors so we would not recommend it for this use. If the floorplan is wide open and there are no obstructions, we would instead recommend Precor Fogger Plus for this area. The Permethrin in Precor® Plus Fogger immediately kills adult fleas, while Precor IGR prevents pre-adult fleas from creating new infestations of breeding, biting adults.

    Q
What should I use if I have bees on the outside wall of my house? I want to exterminate them.
They are behind the painted wood of the outside house. I can see where the bees are going in and out, but can't see the nest. Is Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% strong enough to kill or do I need Drione dust? Or is their something else you would recommend? I have a dog and want the least toxic possible.
    A
As long as you are keeping the dog out of the area while you are doing the treatment and keeping the bottle of dust out of its reach, either product you mentioned will be safe for you pet to be around. A dust is definitely the best way to go for a bee nest as it will take the product back to the ones you dont see, just by treating the entry hole. The Drione dust would be our recommendation and will provide a little longer residual. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Drione dust works terrific in treating bees. With the application of Drione dust in the holes, the adult bees will pick up the dust and transfer it into the holes to the larvae.

    Q
What can I use to rid ground hornets in my yard
    A
You can use Drione dust directly applied to the nests with a hand duster for ground hornet control. We recommend that you either treat very late in the evening or very early in the morning to minimize the risk of attack. You should note that Drione dust takes a few days to kill the hornets and will not immediately knockdown the insects.

    Q
Cicada Killer Wasps. I have established nests and would like to kill the eggs that have been deposited.
    1. Pyrethrin spray in hole 1st -- then Drione Dust for established nests. 2. Drione Dust in hole 1st -- then Pyrethrin spray for established nests. 3. What's best to use for new nests made that day? 4. Should I keep the area dry if using either of the above? 4. What's the closest I can get to Cymethrin and the strongest that can be shipped to me (I live in New York State)?
    A

You can spray pyrethrins in the individual holes and then after the application dries dust each of the hoels with Drione dust (the Drione dust will not work when wet). Below is the usual recommendations for cicada killer wasps:

Cicada Killer wasps thrive in disturbed environments, such as landscaped yards and places where bare soil is exposed. You can discourage the wasps from nesting in your yard by cutting your grass on the highest setting and by adding a thick layer of mulch to flower beds during the Cicada Killer Wasp season. These wasps do not like over saturated lawns either, so over watering during their season will help prevent them. Unfortunately, there is no fool proof way to prevent cicada killer wasps. For current infestations, you would need to use Drione in each individual burrow.

We also like to let our customers know that the Cicada Killer wasps are beneficial insects that provide free pest control for a couple months each year. Cicada killer wasps paralyze and provision their burrows with other insects to feed their young.  The beneficial Cicada killer wasps, while large and intimidating to see, are mostly harmless and there have been very few reports of anyone getting stung by just being near them. In most cases where a sting was reported, the wasps were being held or molested in some way.

    Q
What is the best way to irradicate brown recluse spiders using Drione Dust?
    A
You would want to dust behind and underneath furniture, appliances, garage perimeter and inside wall voids.  All dusts pretty much work the same way and all are OK on spiders.  But the inherent problem is that spiders are hard to kill because they do not groom themselves.  Unlike other insects that walk over dust, get it on their legs, and then groom themselves, spiders do not groom their legs and therefore do not ingest the dust as easily.  For this reason, glue boards and sprays are typically used more often.  We have a spider kit that is very popular for brown recluse spiders and all spiders in general that we would recommend.

    Q
Is Drione dust the best available product for reg. and carpenter ants for N.Y.?
    A
Drione dust will help eliminate any type of ant that crosses over treated areas and is a good choice for ant control. Drione works very well when applied directly to ant nests in voids and cracks and crevices as well.

    Q
How many pounds of Drione do you need to treat a 3600 sq foot house for spiders and which duster would be best?
    A
According to the Drione dust product label you will need to use 16 oz per 1,000 sq ft of surface area being treated. Most folks will only use 1 lb of dust when treating their home because they are not covering all 3,600 sq ft. Instead all treatments are kept to cracks, crevices and voids around the perimeter of the rooms. The Bellow Hand Duster is our best selling hand duster for home owners.

    Q
Do I have baby bed Bugs or fleas?
I bought Drione from you to kill bed bugs, they are almost 100% gone. Now my ankles are being bitten all day by what seems to be fleas. Don't have a pet. I used mattress covers and also Bedlam. Do I have fleas or a baby bed bug problem? Evidence of fleas = Saw one bug seem to jump when I tried to kill it (may have been small fly), small black flecks, biting like fleas on ankles. Evidence of Bed Bugs plus I know I had them but your Drione has helped greatly! Thanks, Jon
    A
That is a question we cannot answer.  In this situation, it is imperative to identify what you are dealing with.  The best way to do this is to catch one on a glue board or tape or something so that you can take it to a pest control company that has an entomologist on staff or a local college with an entomology department.  Some things you describe could be bed bugs or fleas.  It is too hard for us to give a definitive answer without a specimen to see.  We hope you understand our position.

    Q
Is Drione dust poisonous to dogs if inhaled or swallowed?
My dog just recently inhaled some Drione Dust and swallowed some, is it poisonous?
    A
Yes, if Drione dust is inhaled or ingested in large quantities your dog could have an adverse reaction to the dust. In small quantities you most likely would not see any reaction other than sneezing as the dust could be irritating to the mucus membranes in the nose and mouth. We recommend that you take your dog to the veterinarian for an examination just to be safe. We have linked the Drione dust product label and MSDS in our answer so you can easily print them out to give to the vet.

    Q
What are the risks and wise precautions for overhead work today where Drione Dust was applied in July 2008?
I have a main floor bathroom exhaust fan that vents through flexible duct that passes through to the outside above a ceiling where Drione Dust was applied to solve a bee problem in July 2008. Would a contractor be in danger doing a fan replacement? What should I caution him to do or not do?
    A
There are three basic active ingredients in Drione dust, Pyrethrins, Piperonyl Butoxide, Amorphous Silica Gel. Both the pyrethrins and Piperonyl Butoxide have lost their potency and should no longer be an issue for anyone. The Amorphous Silica Gel however does not fade away over time, it is a desiccant and can be irritating if it gets in your eyes or if it is inhaled. People working around these old deposits of dust should wear eye protection and a dust mask and should wash their hands before eating, drinking or using the toilet.

    Q
Can I safely use Drione dust on a mattress? Under the sofa?
I bought Drione dust and it says the mattress should be dusted to treat bedbugs but it also says people shouldn't touch it? In a related question, can I apply the dust to the underside of my sofa?
    A
You can safely apply Drione dust to areas that are listed on the Drione product label. When using on a mattress stick to the tufts, folds, and edges of the mattress and then put the mattress pad and sheets back on the mattress so you do not directly contact treated areas. You can also safely dust the underside of your sofa as that is an area that will not be readily accessible to skin contact.

    Q
Can I apply Drione dust beneath my radiators? How close to the radiators can I safely put the dust?
    A
Drione dust should not be placed close to a radiator as it could over heat the product making it degrade more quickly than it normally would, and if the radiator gets hot enough it could potentially cause a fire. You should keep the dust far enough from the radiator to keep the dust from repeatedly getting heated up.

    Q
I purchased Drione Dust in 1999. It still seems to work. How affective is it at this age?
    A
The manufacturer recommends that you use Drione Dust within 3 years of the date of purchase to ensure maximum efficacy. That being said, Drione does contain Amorphous Silica Gel which is a desiccant that can last indefinitely.

    Q
What's the difference between Delta Dust and Drione Dust?
Besides being waterproof, what is the difference between Drione Dust and Delta Dust?
    A
The only real difference is that they are different active ingredients. Delta Dust has an active ingredient of Deltamethrin, and Drione Dust is a 1% natural pyrethrin.  Both are very effective and our most popular dust products that we sell.  They just kill the insect in different ways.  Either is a great choice.

    Q
We have outdoor fleas because we live in the woods. Will Drione Dust work to get rid of the fleas?
    A

Drione dust is labeled for outdoor flea control in lawns. The Drione dust product label (bottom of pg 2) recommends that you use 16 oz per 1,000 sq ft. This type of application can get very expensive and can be washed away when it rains. We recommend you purchase and use our Outdoor Flea Kit which comes with an insecticide to eliminate the jumping biting adults and an Insect Growth regulator to stop the growth cycle of the immature fleas.

    Q
What if kids come in contact with Drione dust? Are there any risks?
    A
Applications of Drione dust should be limited to areas that will inaccessible to children such as cracks and crevices. If a child does come into contact with the dust, they should wash up immediately with plenty of soap and water. According to the MSDS, Drione dust does not cause skin irritation but like most products could cause issues if it is ingested.
