    Q
How effective Drive XLR8 for use in getting rid of crabgrass in Southern California?
If the results is mixed, what else do you recommend?
    A

Biotypes of large and smooth crabgrass in California have shown varied response to Drive XLR8. If control failure occurs following a full or split application, DO NOT reapply Drive XLR8. Change to an herbicide with a different mode of action. Please provide the desired turfgrass and size area for an alternate recommendation. Thank you!

  • Asked by Jeff from Mantega, Ca
    10/03/2017
    Q
Why did Drive XLR8 work on my crabgrass, but not the clover?
I use the product with MSO as directed. My lawn is small so I only used 1 oz. for 700sq. ft. instead of the 1.45oz for 1000 sq. ft.
    A

Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer should be effective on white, hop, and red clovers at the labeled rate. If the clover is a different variety, or if it one of this varieties but the plants are no longer actively growing, then you will see limited results. You may need a second application or to wait until the weeds are growing again to get good results from the herbicide. We recommend waiting at least 10-14 days to see results from post-emergent herbicides. If you are still not seeing desirable results, then I would consider a more true broadleaf herbicide such as Fertilome Weed Free Zone.

    Q
Any idea on best way to remove dead crabgrass after treating with Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer?
Product seems to be working, now I have to remove dead crabgrass, looking for ideas/suggestions.
    A

Depending on the quantity and density of the dead grasses, you can remove dead plant material by hand pulling, hand digging with a spade, or by tilling if it is a very large area without desirable grasses. Be sure that the root system is completely dead of you are hand pulling treated areas.

  • Asked by Brian from Simi Valley, Ca

    Q
I just planted Eco Lawn. The lawn is 4 weeks old. Can I use Drive XLR8 on the lawn now to kill weeds?
    A

How soon you can apply Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer after seeding depends on the lawn species you planted.  It appears Eco Lawn is a blend of fine fescues and the Drive XLR8 label states to not apply within 4 weeks after seedling emergence of this type of grass.  You should wait until the grass is well established and has been mowed at least twice before applying Drive XLR8.

    Q
Can Drive XLR8 Herbicide Crabgrass Killer be mixed with Surge Broadleaf Herbicide?
Can i mix Drive XLR8 with Surge Broadleaf Herbicide for turf in my 20 gal tank?? Thank U
    A

We would not recommend mixing Surge Broadleaf Herbicide and Drive XLR8 Herbicide in the same tank. Per the label of Surge Herbicide, this product should not be mixed with a surfactant because it will damage your turf grass. Drive XLR8 requires one.

    Q
Why should clippings from the first three mowings after application of Drive XLR8 be left on the treated area?
I normally mulch and use a grass sweeper to pick up the clippings. Clippings go to the dump. What is the benefit/purpose of leaving the clippings on the yard?
    A

The manufacturer recommends after testing that Drive XLR8 is still effective using the clippings.
