We always advise consumers with birds to consult with their veterinarian prior to using any chemical in their homes so they can determine what is safe for the birds. You can view the SDS for this product here.
Both EcoVia EC and Bifen IT are great for general pest control, both can be sprayed on ornamentals and vegetation (as long as it is not edible vegetation), and both products are labeled to control mosquitoes. It is highly recommended to add an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) to stop their cycles to help prevent future infestations as well.
Please take a moment to review our How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes Guide for more information and helpful tips on eradicating this pest.
EcoVia EC has a 3-4 week residual per the manufacturer. The Bifen IT has a residual of up to 30 days outdoors and up to 90 days indoors.
The Bifen and Ecovia are both labeled for many of the same pests, however, the Bifen is labeled to target more insects. For example, the Bifen is labeled to control up to 75 different insects including carpet beetles whereas the Ecovia is not. Both products are effective as long as you are following the instructions on the product label.
Ecovia is labeled as a livestock spray for breeding stock and recreational animals (Cattle, Swine, Horses, Goats and Sheep) as well. The Bifen IT is not labeled for this same use. Please be sure to review the product labels for more information and complete application instructions.
Please review the Bifen IT Product Label and the EcoVia EC Product Label for more information.
EcoVia EC states on the product label: * This product is not recommended as sole protection against termites and is not approved as a pre-construction treatment for subterranean termites. It is really only for spot treating active termites. Termidor SC would be the best product for trenching as prevention.
Yes, EcoVia EC can be toxic to honey bees that may come in contact with a treated surface. To minimize the risk of harm to bees, it is recommended to apply in the early morning or in the evening when bees are least active, and to avoid applying to any plants that are actively blooming.
The lot number for EcoVia EC is found on the front of the bottle stamped just under the label.
You will need to reach out to the manufacturer of EcoVia EC. Rockwell Labs can be reached at 816-283-3167. They also list an emergency contact which is 800-424-9300. It is also recommended to reach back out to the company that sprayed it.
Yes, we do not offer products for use around koi ponds.
EcoVia EC should not damage or stain the concrete or pavers when used as directed on the product label, and we have not heard complaints of this happening. The product should dry clear, but we would suggest testing a small, inconspicuous area first to be sure.
Unfortunately there isn't a way to only kill one species and not the other and broadcast treat an area they may both cohabitate in. However, most insects have times of day they are most active and least active, so spraying during the least active times for dragonflies can give more time for the product to dry and potentially not impact them as much the following days. There is just no way to guarantee they wont be impacted to some extent when using an insecticide whether all natural, orgranic, or otherwise if it carries a residual.
EcoVia EC can be applied just to the perimeter of an area as a sort of barrier to kill insects coming into the area but if you have insects already across the entire area it would be best to cover it all.
EcoVia EC does not have restrictions for use around animals or aquatic life as long as the product is applied according to the label instructions. You should not apply directly onto animals, and we do recommend trying to spray when animals such as tortoises are not present in the direct application area for extra caution.
The time frame it takes EcoVia EC to eliminate spiders will depend on the number of spiders in the area and the rate the product is applied at. It could take up to a week to see results. This product does not guarantee that the spiders will be gone forever. The product will likely need to be reapplied for maintenance every 21 days.
EcoVia EC is a great choice if you are seeking a natural concentrate to mix with water and apply to outdoor areas. You may mix up to 6oz of EcoVia EC per gallon of water depending upon application site and insect.
In a cold/ULV Fogger, you can dilute concentrates like EcoVia EC with either water or with oil. Typically you would dilute with water whenever possible outdoors to reduce the risk of phytotoxicity on the plants you are treating. Per the product label, use up to 0.25-1.5 fl oz of product per 1000 sq ft of ground surface area, or up to 10-60 fl oz per acre. It sounds like you will likely need to dilute the product to apply at this rate if your fogger is applying product that quickly.
EcoVia EC can be applied around cracks and crevices on the exterior including the window and door frames.
EcoVia EC is labeled for treating springtails, and does not contain an Insect Growth Regulator. IGR's are not necessary when treating for springtails. Springtails indicate that there is a moisture issue because they breed in walls or under slabs where a moisture issue may exist. Typically, pesticides alone will not take care of a springtail problem. It is required to fix whatever moisture issue is causing the problem. You should read our How To Get Rid of Springtails article for further information.
