    Q
Will Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench kill goldspotted oak borers?
Will Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench work to kill the goldspotted oak borer in a tree with a 20 in trunk diameter? I can remove the bark and see the borer and holes in the tree. If this will not work, what does?
    A

Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench will not work/control goldspotted oak borers as systemic insecticides are not effective against them.  I did find this article here that may be helpful.  The key is preventing them from spreading to healthy trees.  Tengard SFR would be a good option.  Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them.  The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

  • Asked by William from Prattville, Alabama

    Q
Why didn't Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic work?
I put Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic by my pecan tree on April per label directions. It is currently covered in yellow aphids! It would appear that it does not work. Do you know why?
    A

Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench only affects insects after they have started to feed on the treated trees since it works by ingestion. Insects can still be seen on the trees but as long as they feed enough to ingest a lethal dose they will die.  If they are too heavily infested it would be recommend to spray the foliage with something like Triple Action for faster killing

  • Asked by Greg from Mesa, Az

    Q
Will Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench kill grubs?
    A

Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench is not labeled for grubs. Since grubs live underground they must be treated with a product that will target them where they live. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region.

    Q
Will Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench work for aspen?
A beetle has been killing portions of the cambium on my 7 yr. old Aspen.
    A

While you can use the Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Drench to treat aspen trees, we cannot guarantee that this will control the specific insect that may be in your trees. Certain bark beetles get just under the bark but not deep enough into the trees to be affected by insecticides, while others are deep enough to contact systemic applications.

Can I cut the amount of Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench?
I have 3 5 ft boxwoods planted together, can I cut the amount since they share the bed?

Round any inches down to the nearest foot if less than 6” and up to the nearest foot if greater than 6”. Multiply the number of feet by 3 – this is the number of ounces of this product to apply.  It is only applied one time per year.
