    Q
Can Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench be applied in September when outside temperatures are still extremely hot?
I used a foliage spray on crape myrtle because the aphids are terrible. It helped tremendously but there are still aphids on the leaves. I want to apply this now to help with prevention but it states to do it in fall. Should I just keep blasting my crape myrtle leaves with water and insecticide to keep aphids away until then or can I go ahead and apply this now to the crape myrtle and other trees and shrubs?
    A

Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench does not list any temperature restrictions on the product label, and can be applied anytime except when the ground is saturated or frozen.

For best results, Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench works best as a preventative treatment before insect activity is present by soil drench between early spring through early fall. Systemic insecticides can take weeks to months to translocate throughout the tree from the root zone depending on the size and age of the tree.

We recommend doing a monthly application with a residual insecticide labeled for aphids such as Talstar P as a foliar spray every 30 days. This will treat active insects such as whiteflies, aphids, spider mites, clover mites, mosquitoes, etc

Is there a preferred time of year to apply Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench?
    A

Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench can be applied anytime during the year as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. On smaller trees and shrubs, most folks will apply a systemic product such as Ferti-lome Tree and Shrub Systemic Insect Drench in the spring and after petal fall on flowering plants. If you have very large trees, then you could apply in the fall so that the insecticide moves through the plant quickly in the spring with new growth.
