  • Asked by Kevin from New Jersey

    Q
Will Fertilome Triple Action control grubs under the soil in a vegetable garden?
I found some white grubs, perhaps Japanese beetle, in my garden and I'm looking for something safe to control them without toxic chemicals.
    A

While Fertilome Triple Action is a fantastic product for a wide variety of insects and safe for vegetable gardens, it is not something to use for grubs in the soil. A better option would be either Milky Spore Powder (if its only japanese beetle grubs) as it is a completely organic grub control product for use in lawns and gardens; Or a product like Imidapro 4SC which is labeled for use on edibles with short pre harvest intervals and will control grubs of all kinds and any other insects trying to do damage to your edibles.

  • Asked by Todd from Sacramento, California
    01/20/2017
    Q
Can I mix Fertilome Triple Action with Dormant Oil and apply over winter in California?
    A

When using horticultural oils, we would suggest using only one at a time to avoid damaging your plants. Triple Action has Neem Oil (a horticultural oil derived from the neem tree) plus pyrethrin, a contact insecticide, so it is a combination product with two modes of action. The product label for Triple Action also indicates not to use the product when temperatures are less than 45 degrees. A Dormant Oil is usually applied at a higher concentration during winter months. Be sure to follow the product labels and local recommendations for timing when using horticultural oils. This fact sheet from University of Nevada Copperative Extension has great information about horticultural oils.
