  • Asked by Perry from Joplin, Mo
    06/02/2018
    Q
How long does the temperature need to stay under 80 degrees? How soon after a rain can you apply Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone?
It is warming up with daytime temp in the upper 90s. Rain will take highs down into the 80s. Overnight lows can be in the 70s.
    A

When applying Fertilome Weed Free Zone, you will start seeing results within 7-14 days. The rate is 1.5-2 fl oz per gallon so we would recommend using that rate. Using less than labeled rates may not provide desirable results and you can reapply at 2 - 6 weeks intervals. The product should not be applied in temperatures over 90 degrees. It is recommended that you apply products in the early morning or late evening. It is best applied when the grass is dry but you can apply if lightly wet from dew, just not after a heavy rain. Only rain or watering within 4 hours of application of the Fertilome Weed Free Zone would decrease the effectiveness.  Rain 24 hours after application should not effect the application.

    Q
Should I mow before or after applying Fertilome Weed Free Zone?
    A

Normally when applying any type of herbicide, including Ferti-lome Weed Free Zone, you want to delay mowing at least 2-3 days before putting down the product, and then 2-3 days after as well to give the grass full time to absorb the application.

    Q
Why does mowing need to be delayed prior to application of Fertilome Weed Free Zone?
If temps are in the 60's does it matter?
    A

Mowing is delayed before applying the Fertilome Weed Free Zone to avoid stressing the desirable turf before application, and delayed after to allow the product time to be absorbed throughout the weed to the roots before being removed.
