    Q
I want to mix Gentrol and Demon WP; how much of each do I mix?
I want to mix Gentrol and Demon WP how much do I use each in a sprayer
    A

The mixing ratio for Demon WP is one to two packets per gallon of water. The mixing ratio for Gentrol IGR is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. You will fill the tank up halfway, put the products in, fill the tank up the rest of the way and agitate. Be sure not to leave chemicals inside your sprayer for more than 24 hours because it will decrease the effectiveness of the product.

    Q
Will the Gentrol IGR disc affect my dog?
    A
Gentrol IGR in any form will not affect a dog, child or adult in any way that would harm them, or keep any of them from being able to reproduce. The Gentrol is specifically formulated to only affect the juvenille growth hormone that only insects posses and hinder it from working properly.

    Q
How long does it take Gentrol IGR Concentrate to work?
    A

Gentrol IGR will not kill insects, it only prevents them from reproducing. You should use other insecticides, such as Suspend SC, in conjunction with the Gentrol Concentrate. In general, if you use the recommended products together as advised you will start to see a reduction in insects within a week or two. However, it may take a month or so so see full eradication.

  • Asked by Denise
    10/13/2010
    Q
How often can I spray Gentrol for carpet infestations since I am pregnant?
I am dealing with carpet beetles mostly in my bedroom and have sprayed a mixture or Suspend Sc with Gentrol Concentrate around all of our based boards around the house. The majority of the carpet beetles are in our bedroom.
    A
There are no special directions for pregnant women. Follow the instructions on the product label. The label states that you should spray once a month for best results. It is also very important that the source of the infestation (where the damaging larva is harboring) is discovered and eliminated, not just the visible adult insects you see wandering around. Until you find out what that is and deal with it you will continue to get more of the carpet beetles emerging from hiding. Carpet beetles may be as likely to feed on grain based food materials as they are on animal byproducts. Pet foods stored in forgotten places, baking goods left too long in the cupboard, rodent baits tossed in the attic - all of these are quite susceptible to carpet beetle feeding. Plus, you also have the typical carpet beetle diets of dead insects (wasp nests in the attic, dead insects in window sills), feathers (bird nests, dead birds), hair (dead rodents, wool products, trophy mounts), and other things made from animal byproducts. Once the source of the infestation is removed or cleaned, use Suspend SC and Gentrol IGR once a month until all of the beetles are gone.

    Q
How long does Gentrol IGR concentrate keep it's potency?
If I purchase a 16 oz bottle of IGR concentrate & use 1 oz every four months, the last of the concentrate will have been stored for 5 years before use. Is it reasonable to expect the concentrate to still be potent this long?
    A

Gentrol IGR Concentrate has a shelf life of about 3-5 years if kept out of extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.  It can be applied more often then ever 4 months depending on the pest you are trying to control so it should still be effective in that time.

    Q
Will Gentrol IGR work on fleas?
    For outdoor use?
    A
Gentrol IGR is not labeled for fleas and is not recommend for use outside.  For outdoor flea control you should use our outdoor flea kit, which comes with an IGR that is labeled for fleas.  IGR's do not kill adult fleas though, they only prevent immature fleas from maturing.  The outdoor kit also comes with a product to mix with the IGR that actually does the killing of adult fleas.

    Q
Can I spray Gentrol on my box spring cover and then cover it with a bed bug proof box spring protector?
Also, can I spray it underneath my sofa inside the frame? I will be mixing it with Suspend SC.
    A
The Gentrol IGR supplemental label states "To treat bedbugs, apply to harborage points mentioned in general treatments; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage." Treating the underside of the sofa should be just fine, just be sure not to get any spray on the areas where people will contact it. For more sensitive areas you can use Bedlam and Steri-Fab.

    Q
Can Gentrol IGR be harmful to dogs if you bathe them and they roll on an area treated?
Roll on the area which has been sprayed while they're still wet?
    A

Gentrol IGR once dry is safe when used as directed. The dried residual will not have any effect on people or pets even if they touch it or if pets contact an area after application while they are wet, it does not reconstitute. You should apply the Gentrol IGR as directed on the product label, directly into cracks and crevices around door frames, window frames, baseboards and under appliances. There is no need to spray the entire carpet and it is not labeled to do so. All pets should be out of the area during the application, and they can safely return to the treated as soon as it has dried.  By applying the product directly to cracks, crevices, voids and other inaccessible areas you will be limiting anyone's exposure to the product.

    Q
What is the reason why we need to use the mixed Gentrol solution within 48 hours?
Will the chemical not work any more after 48 hours in the sprayer?
    A

Gentrol (along with most other liquid concentrates) should be used or discarded within 24-48 hours at most after mixing.  This is because the active ingredient will start to break down after this point and cause the solution to become less effective.

    Q
Can Gentrol IGR Concentrate be mixed with Ortho Home Defense
    A

Ortho Home Defense is a ready to use product so it is already premeasured.  Gentrol IGR Concentrate, once mixed with water, needs to be used within 48 hours of mixing with water.  Unless you plan to use the entire gallon of Ortho when you mix it with the Gentrol, we would not recommend mixing the 2 together.

  • Asked by Tiffany from Ky
    11/03/2014
    Q
How good and safe is this product?
I have a few concerns about using any chemicals in my home for health/safety reasons. 1. How safe around small children? I have a 2 year old. 2. If sprayed in cabinets and pantries, will I need to wash everything that as set on the shelves after they have dried to not come in contact with it ourselves? 3. Is there a strong odor? 4. How long does it take to dry?
    A

Gentrol IGR has a mild petroleum solvent odor and is completely safe for kids once the product has dried. When applying using a hand pump sprayer, it usually takes 1-3 hours to dry and the kids would need to be out of the room while spraying. When treating in cabinet & pantry areas, follow the instructions per label listed below.

Pantry/Cabinets, Small Food Storage Areas: Apply as a surface spray, crack and crevice spray, or spot treatment to pantry and cupboard shelves or other areas where food is stored. Prior to spraying, remove all food containers and foodstuffs. Do not replace food containers or foodstuffs until spray has dried. Do not store food in open containers in treated pantries. Destroy any infested food packages to ensure proper control.

    Q
Is using NyGuard IGR with Temprid SC to treat bedbugs a good idea?
Is this a good combination or is there a better combination of spray and IGR that you would recommend? I know a lot of people use Gentrol for bedbugs, but I'm not familiar with the differences.
    A
Nyguard IGR is not labeled for bed bugs. Temprid SC can be mixed with Gentrol IGR. It will stop the bed bugs from reproducing. You will need to use Gentrol IGR every two weeks when you spray the Temprid SC along the baseboards and cracks and crevices. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Can Gentrol IGR be used with Mosquitoes?
I bought it to use, but think I bought the wrong IGR.
    A
No, Gentrol IGR is not labeled for mosquitoes nor can be used outside.  The most recommended IGR for mosquitoes is the NyGuard IGR.  It is photostable outside and also works for many other insects as listed on the product label.
