Golden Malrin Fly Bait used to be yellow, but the EPA required the company to change the color to a bluish green since yellow looked too much like a corn or grain and they did not want children confusing it with corn. It was the same product, just a different color.
Golden Malrin Fly Bait will keep indefinitely provided it is kept dry and does not spoil. Keep in mind weather conditions such as humidity can affect this as well so you would want to check this weekly, and replace as needed.
Golden Malrin Fly Bait is designed to mainly be used outdoors. Although, some folks use it inside barns. Our most popular mosquito control product is called Talstar. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer. It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments. It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.
Once dry, the small amount of active ingredient in the Golden Malrin Fly Bait is only enough to kill a fly. Chickens would not be harmed by eating a few flies.
Golden Malrin Fly Bait is labeled to eradicate flies. The active ingredients in the product are Methomyl 1.100% (Z)-9- Tricosene 0.049%.
We would not recommend using Golden Malrin or other similar fly baits in an immediate area where you are consuming food since the bait will attract flies. Regardless, there would be so little active ingredient picked up by one fly that it would not be harmful. This is a bait, so the flies are actually ingesting it. Flies also constantly groom, so they ingest what is picked up on their feet, as well. Flies will die very quickly after contacting Golden Malrin, so they may not make it to a food area.
This bait is discontinued. We have other Fly Baits here.
