  • Asked by M from North Branch
    04/24/2017
    Q
What spreader setting should I use to apply Headway G Fungicide Granules? I have a Scotts Speedy Green 3000.
    A

We apologize, but we don't have the exact spreader setting for your model spreader. The easiest way to determine the correct setting you need to apply Headway G is outlined below:

If you need to use 3.6lbs of product per 1,000 sq ft you would  add 3.6 lb of product to spreader, start with a medium setting, then apply product to a 20 x 50 ft area (1,000 sq ft).  If you have product left, your setting is too low.  If you run out of product, your setting is too high.

How much Headway G Fungicide Granules do I use on my lawn?
I live on Cape Cod where we deal with a lot of cool, damp weather; thus, fungus in the lawn. I bought this product from you last Fall and need to know at what rate I should apply?

The amount of square feet Headway G Fungicide Granules will treat all varies on what, where and how you are treating. The label states for example, that if you are treating Brown patch you would apply 2-2.5lbs per 1,000 square feet. Q
How often is rotating fungicides with different modes of action in different class/groups recommended?
For instance, if I have applied Heritage G twice this season at the recommended rate of 2lbs/1000 sq ft, should I switch to a fungicide in a different group if I need to apply fungicide again this season. Or can I apply Heritage G again?
    A

Typically rotating fungicides after 2-3 applications is recommended to prevent resistance. The days between applications and number of sequential treatments recommended is based off the product label of each fungicide. Please view our article A Beginner's Guide to Fungicides. for more information.

  • Asked by Jim from Carver, Ma
    01/31/2024
    Q
Jan 31, have seen an emergence of red thread in my lawn, can I apply this in Ma. NOW?
    A

You normally apply a fungicide like Headway before signs of the disease common to occur in your lawns starts to be present as long as the ground is not frozen. If you typically get a disease in the lawn every may, for example, then you would want to put down the headway a few weeks before the time it normally presents itself in your lawn, and continue reapplying at the appropriate intervals per the product label for that disease to keep it at bay. You may also want to consult your Master Gardener for the appropriate application time in your area.

  • Asked by Jessie from Alabama

    Q
Can a swollen bag of Headway G still be used?
I bought a bag last year, and it has been in a cool, dry place all winter. The bag has not been opened. I noticed the bag is swollen tight with trapped air. Has it gone bad?
    A

The Headway G Fungicide Granules should still be usable as long as they are not wet from moisture and do not clump when you open the bag. Swelling could have occurred from air shifts and temperature shifts around the contents. The shelf life of the product is usually at least 3 years, so it should not have gone bad at this point. If you run into any issues, please let us know, and we'd be happy to help.

  • Asked by Jim from Fort Worth, Texas
    04/16/2023
    Q
Can Headway G be applied sooner than 28 days?
Can I apply Headway G for extreme yellowing every 14 days using a smaller amount per 1000sq? I had Headway G applied on the 3rd of April, and as of today, the 16th of April, I have not seen any improvement. It's more like my lawn has gotten worse. Not for sure what lbs per 1000 was used on the 3rd? My lawn maintenance company was really big on how much water to use. Something does not seem right. Thanks.
    A

Yes, Headway G Fungicide Granules can be used every 14-21 days. Applying every 14 days is for curative, while applying every 21 days is for preventative. If you are actively trying to fight a disease, you need to be applying every 14 days. It would be the same thing with the rates, they have a high & low. Higher rates are for curative, while lower rates are for preventative. In order to give you proper rates, we would need to know what you are treating for. If you do not know what you have, you will need to consult your extension office. Or try speaking to the company that applied this product to your lawn.

  • Asked by Jonathan from Chesapeake

    Q
I don't have a fungus, can I still put this on tiftuf right now.
Want to use to prevent fungus from appearing. Live in Chesapeake Va.
    A
Headway G Fungicide Granules should be applied when conditions are favorable for disease infection, prior to disease symptom development. Under high disease pressure, use higher rates of Headway G and shorter intervals. Some diseases like Take-All Patch require spring and fall applications. We recommend checking our guide here for additional information and tips.
