Benefits and Features:

  • Use in ornamental landscape areas, established lawns and ornamental turf.
  • Can be applied up to 4 weeks later than other pre-emergent Crabgrass preventers.
  • Provides superior control of Crabgrass and many other annual grass and broadleaf weeds.

This weed preventer contains Dimension herbicide, which may be applied up to 4 weeks later than other crabgrass preventers and provides up to 4 months of crabgrass control. This provides pre-emergent control of crabgrass and control or suppression of other listed weeds when applied prior to their germination. In addition, this provides post-emergent control of seedling crabgrass after germination and emergence. Post-emergent control is limited to crabgrass only, but is effective up to 4 weeks after crabgrass has germinated. This generally corresponds to the time when crabgrass seedlings first become visible in the established turfgrass. Do not apply this later than 4 weeks after crabgrass germination. When to apply pre-emergent herbicides and weed preventers will depend on where you live, but in the spring, apply before soil temperatures reach 55 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal crabgrass control.

Florida Applications: Do not exceed 4 applications per year on bermudagrass in central Florida. Do not apply more than 9.2 lb of this product per 1,000 sq. ft. per application and no more than 27.6 lb of this per 1,000 sq. ft. per year (equivalent to 0.5 and 1.5 lb of active ingredient per acre, respectively).

Apply this only to turfgrass species listed on this label. The following turfgrass species are tolerant to this when applied as directed:

Cool-Season Grasses:

Bentgrass, Creeping; Bluegrass, Kentucky; Fescue, Fine; Fescue, Tall; Ryegrass, Perennial

Warm-Season Grasses:

Bahiagrass, Bermudagrass, Buffalograss, Carpetgrass, Centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, Zoysiagrass

APPLICATION TIMING

Spring Application

Control of Crabgrass:

Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed & Grass Stopper Containing Dimension provides pre-emergent control of crabgrass and control or suppression of other listed weeds when applied prior to their germination. In addition, this provides post-emergent control of seedling crabgrass after germination and emergence. Post-emergent control is limited to crabgrass only and is effective up to 4 weeks after germination of crabgrass. This generally corresponds to the time when crabgrass seedlings are at the 3-leaf stage of growth and first become visible in the established turf. This will not control crabgrass at later growth stages when crabgrass plants begin to tiller (spread). Properly timed applications will control existing crabgrass and prevent further emergence of crabgrass seedlings. Do not apply this later than 4 weeks after crabgrass germination.

Control or Suppression of Other Grass and Broadleaf Weeds:

For control or suppression of other grass and broadleaf weeds, this must be applied as a preventative treatment prior to their germination and emergence. Only crabgrass will be controlled with applications made up to 4 weeks after weed germination.

Fall Application

This can also be applied from late summer through early fall (late August through November). When applied in the fall, a sequential or second application of this must be made the following spring to provide season-long control of crabgrass. If this is applied in the fall, do not reseed, overseed or sprig turfgrasses within 12 weeks after application.

    Excellant product

    By Keith on 09/30/2012

This is the best pre-emergent I have ever used. I have 8000 sq ft of centipede and St. Augustine in central Georgia. My lawn has neighbors on both sides who do no lawn care at all and their dandilions, bahia grass and other weeds come right up to my boundary. As long as I keep this product applied every 3 to 4 months I never get any infestation from either side. I could not be happier and I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a beautiful, weed free lawn.

The BEST pre-emergent herbicide I have used!

    By D. on 03/22/2016

I purchased this product after using other pre-emergent herbicide granules and coming to the conclusion that none worked until I used this. Due to the "early spring" in the southeast in 2016 I missed the optimal time to apply this before germination. I applied this product anyway and it's doing EXACTLY as it said. It's killing the germinated/growing and even pretty well established fully grown weeds without harming my tall fescue. I WILL be using this product going forward for fall and spring applications.

    Great, dependable product

    By K on 03/13/2012

We have used this product on our lawn for several years, and have been very pleased with the results. When it became difficult to find locally, I decided to shop online. Though the price is a good bit higher, the delivery was included, and items shipped right to my front door. Shipping was very fast, and I didn't have to go shopping all around town to find this trusted product.

Q
1 acre and spreader is Scotts Elite, how much Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide?

Lexington county, SC. Centipede grass. Sandy soil. How many bags for 1 acre?? And what is the spreader # for a Scott's Elite spreader/rotary??

A

Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide states to use 3.5lbs - 9.2lbs per 1k square feet or 154 lbs - 404.8 lbs per acre depending on what rate you apply at

Unfortunately, we do not have the spreader settings for that specific combo, and since the manufacturer does not list that spreader on their bag we are unsure what the exact setting would be. Due to the thousands of granules on the market and just as many different types of spreaders, there isn't a master list that exists. You may want to try calling the manufacturer of your spreader or the chemical itself directly, to see if anyone on their staff has that info. Otherwise, you will want to calibrate your spreader to the product you are using and its application rates. You can see a short video on how to accomplish this here.

Q
I bought this to control my poa annua but I see that you say it won't work.

I have zoysia and am overrun with poa annua. I keep pulling it up roots and all and it keeps springing up. I've tried boiling hot water as well. What do you have that will work to kill and what to maintain?

A
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide will only prevent poa annua when applied before it emerges, it will not control any actively growing poa annua and no pre-emergent will as weeds require a post emergent application once emerged.

Depending on your turfgrass type, as a post-emergent you may consider using either Image Kills Nutsedge Concentrate or Certainty Herbicide - 1.25 oz.  We have a guide here that can help.

Q
I have Centerpide lawn, when should I apply Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide?
A

The Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper can be applied in early fall and spring. Please click on the link here for the contact information for your local county extension office for specific times for application as they vary by region and these offices have the most up to date information regarding timing.
The general rule for spring is to apply your pre-emergent herbicide treatment after the ground has thawed from the winter but before the temperature of your soil reaches 55 degrees, as that is when crabgrass begins to germinate. Other weeds will germinate when the soil temperature is between 55 and 65 degrees. You can use a soil thermometer to determine the temperature of your lawn/area. You will want to measure the temperature of the soil a few inches below ground.

The ideal time to apply a fall pre-emergent herbicide to your yard is between August and November when the soil temperature is below 70 degrees and dropping.

Q
Can you use Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Hi-Yield Weed and Feed 15-0-10?

I am in central florida with a lawn of mostly st. augustine, but bermuda and zoysia are mixed in. I want to use the Weed and Grass stopper as a pre-emergent for my lawn to remove the carpet crabgrass and keep more from returning. I also want to use the Weed and Feed to help fertilize but also manage the other broadleaf weeds that are prominent. Can these be used together?

A

Yes, you can use a fertilizer and a pre-emergent such as Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension at the same time as long as your lawn needs both of those applications. You will not need to fertilize turfgrass that is already dormant or has not yet started growing in the spring.

Q
Does this product work on sand spurs and if so, should I apply both fall and spring?

I live on the Outer Banks of NC and sand spurs are HORRIBLE here. Locals have used Balan in the past but my understanding is that there may be newer and better options. I looked at Ike's but I'd prefer a granular product as I feel it would be easier for this single senior to apply.

A
Yes, Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension  Herbicide is labeled for Sandburs.  Yes, you can apply it in both the fall and then again in the spring.

Q
I am transplanting Iris to an area with crabgrass

Rototilled it 3 times. Do I apply herbicide before or after transplanting Iris.

A
Since Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is a pre-emergent herbicide, you should apply this only around established ornamentals. That means that if you are going to transplant ornamentals, you would need to do that first and allow the plants to establish roots before using the Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide. Per the product label, established iris is tolerant of this herbicide.
