    Q
What is the setting for a Scott's Edgeguard Spreader for Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper?
    A
We do not know the setting for that spreader and we are not sure exactly what to set it on.  However, almost all fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc have treatments in amounts of so much product per 1000 square feet.  So if you can figure out what your walking speed is then you know anytime you apply any product that calls for so much of it per 1000 square feet, you always set your spreader on this setting.  You can calibrate this by marking off a 1000 square foot (10 x 100) area and placing 2.4 pounds of any type of product of similar granule size, or of the Hi-Yield Turf & Ornamental Weed and Grass Stopper itself in the spreader.  Start with a low setting and start walking your marked off area at a normal pace.  You can adjust as you go and find the basic setting for you to apply the product over a 1000 square feet. You can call VPG, the manufacturer, and they may be able to tell you what setting you should have it on.  You can reach them at 888-583-5296.

    Q
When should I apply Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper to control annual blue grass in a St. Augustine & Centipede lawn? I live in in the northern part of SC.
    A

Most pre-emergent applications can be applied in early fall and spring. Please click on the link below for the contact information for your local county extension office for specific times for application. I have also included the number to the manufacturer of Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper for more information on applying this product to your turfgrass. Some types of St. Augustine can be very sensitive to products.

  • Asked by Bob from Ft Worth Tx

    Q
Will product prevent germination of bermuda grass seed
Established st augustine/ Tiff 419 lawn
    A
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is labeled for use on both St augustine and bermuda grass so it will not work to stop the germination of Bemuda.
Unfortunately Bermuda grass is so closely related to St. Augustine grass that there is nothing that will remove Bermuda from St. Augustine and not hurt the Bermuda as well.  In your situation it is recommended to spot treat the Bermuda with Round Up and kill it directly, and then replant St. Augustine in those areas. We do carry some professional round up products:  http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/nonselective-herbicides-c-188_408.html

  • Asked by Gary from Smithtown, Ny
    01/18/2013
    Q
I'm looking for a crabgrass pre-emergent for my new lawn.
I have a new lawn that I had seeded last year and the grass is growing well. I live on Long Island New York. Previously I had very bad crabgrass problem. I am hoping to stop the crabgrass this year. Can you please recommend a pre-emergent for my lawn and when I should apply it?
    A
Almost every pre-emergent can only be used on well established lawns only. Using pre-emergents on lawns that are not well established could lead to unfavorable results. If you feel your lawn is well established you can use Hi Yield Turf and Ornamental with Dimension to control crabgrass both pre-emergently and post-emergently (for up to 4 weeks).

  • Asked by Ross from Covington,la

    Q
Is Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide effective on Virginia buttonweed?
    A
Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension Herbicide is not labeled for Virginia Buttonweed and we are not sure how well it work for this weed. We recommend you choose a product that lists buttonweed on the product label for best results such as Fertilome Weed Out Lawn Weed Killer with Trimec or Image 70DG. Virginia Buttonweed can be one of the most stubborn weeds to control and multiple applications of an herbicide may be needed.
