How do I get rid of ground hogs?

I have a groundhog that hides next to my front cement steps. whoever built the step and landing didn't make it flush with the foundation. and in front of it there is an asphalt walkway. It caved in a hole about almost 1.5' x 1'. First I wanted to just shoot it with a pellet rifle, but there is too many houses and I can not risk it going some where someone could get hurt, then I have a septic system fairly close to the hole, who knows the tunnels may go right near the septic, so I can't use one of those smokers and blow up my house! I don't really want to catch it in a havahart type thing then release it. What else do you recommend to take it out? I really want it (no longer with us). Will that gopher poison work on a groundhog? Or do you have a trap for the size of a groundhog that will either kill it or trap it so i can take care of it, this thing is burrowing right next to my foundation and i need it gone fast.

Answer:

Repels-All Liquid Concentrate is a repellent made from all natural ingredients but is repulsive to vermin and other undesirable pests. Repels in three ways, by sense of touch, taste, and smell. Offers the most comprehensive animal repellent on the market. Protects plants and property for up to 2 months per application. May be used around edibles. Rain fast after 6 hours. The unique blend of ingredients in REPELS-ALL causes mild irritation to animal's nasal passages but does not harm the animal, it drives them away, naturally. The gopher bait is label and targeted to gophers only.  Havahart Cage Trap - Model 1079  You can use this cage which is suitable for trapping armadillos, racoons and groundhogs (woodchucks). Easy to bait, set and release, this high tensil wire mesh trap is steel reinforced for long life and maximum resistance to damage. The smooth inside edges are for the protection of the animal, while the gravity-action door has sensitive triggers to ensure a quick, secure catch. Havahart recommends that you contact the Humane Society, or the local or state game commission before setting a trap to determine the lawful method of releasing a captured wild or nuisance animal. Many species are protected by law in various states.
