How do I get rid of mice that seem to avoid the mouse traps?

I'm using the Victor Mouse Traps. The smart mice I have (in my basement) seem to be able to remove the peanut butter from the yellow plastic flap. This has happened several times. The traps are sensitive enough that they go off if I try to slide them a couple of inches to the wall. What do you suggest?

Answer:

Try using less peanut butter on the Victor Mouse Trap trigger.  Barely coat the trigger so they have to really use some pressure to get it off.  A very small amount will still attract them by the smell.
